That's exactly what would happen to them here, if they're lucky.
Man City have a good record with youth. Foden, Lewis, McAtee in their senior squad. Then Palmer, Lavia, Harwood-Bellis, Trafford, Rogers, Doyle, Charles, Delap, etc. all playing in the prem. It is a no brainer.

Problem is all clubs reject huge numbers of players each year.. must be a nightmare and really hard for the kids to deal with such rejection especially if the parents are convincing them they could be professional footballers. A family member, was at a non-Cov Midlands based youth system but was suddenly rejected this summer. Fortunately his parents are very sensible and the club involved was very supportive and helpful. Hopefully he sticks with the game as he could still have a sniff of a chance. I guess probably less than 0.1% of all youth team players make it to the PL or Championship - still a great career though and beats sitting at a desk!
Go to disagree with this. The club will get around £500k for this which can be reinvested. There is no guarantee Barrett will make it to the top level. You only need to look at Charlie McCann who Man Utd paid us £500j about 6 years ago. He likewise was an England international and destined for the top. He’s now at FGR.

My nephew was in the Port Vale academy until he was 18 and got released as they had decided all they wanted that year was a centre back and the one they picked wasn’t the best player and hasn’t progressed. My nephew went well down the leagues to Nantwich and scored a load of goals and got a move back into league football and played against us. He got released again but is now playing in the conference and making a tidy living playing full time.

All the big clubs are going it, Liverpool signed Harvey Elliot from Fulham at 15. Can you remember McCann moved from us to United a few years ago?

You’re right about Man City. They’ve had a lot of success with academy players. However Chelsea have more former academy players aged 25+ playing in the top 5 leagues in England and the top 2 leagues in the rest of Europe than any other club. That’s in terms of percentage of players that have gone through their system and shear numbers. If you’re 15 you’re more likely to be a professional player 10 years later being there than anywhere else.

I've no problems with young lads accepting the moves for their own potential progression.
What I have a problem with is the relative pittance these clubs pay to bring them in and on a lot of them will make a profit purely because they're a 'Man City etc. academy product'.
There definitely needs to be more payments making it down the leagues, not just in terms of outright payment, but also based on sell-on fees (inc. any loan fees received) and also payments for any games played for that team on a sliding scale dependent on the level.
I've strongly suggested squad limits for pro's, and that would be an option here but at the same time giving these kids access to top facilities and experts is good for their development too, so it's a bit of a quandary.
But something needs to change to stop the top clubs hoovering up talent and making a profit even from those that are unsuccessful.

Sliding scale already exists, unless it's different now or the fee paid has an agreement in it,did McCann have a deal written in?

Yeah it does, but I meant for other things like payment if they play first team games. Get more if PL, less if its League or FA Cup etc.

I disagree I'm afraid. All the time we're getting bigger, better, and stronger. Incremental is the key word. We'll probably never be as big as the top six in the Prem but we're also not the push-over club we were a few years ago.
Business is slowly being done on our terms.
