Not really. I can understand that it wouldn't be a zero-sum approach. but you could take other approaches which should at least be better than xG.

The best teams in the world do use other approaches which are better than xG, we just don't get to see them!

I'm part way through this book which is fascinating for anyone interested in data/stats in football:

Hope we tonk these racist bellends 8-0

And I hope whoever was with us last season hasn’t forgot their centre halves cowardly elbow on Jamie Allen which ruled him out for months
D’Shon Bernard did Allen and Kitch got sent off for getting headbutted! Fucking hate these northern monkeys

Just seen Robins’s presser, I wish he’d stop being negative and bigging other teams up! Said they’re big, strong and athletic and press well ( they’re fucking cloggers)
He needs to give our lads a bit of a boost as well ffs!

Haha yeah that helps! Though it's actually about Liverpool and how they went from signing players like Andy Carroll and Charlie Adam etc to signing Salah, Firmino etc. Really interesting (if you're into stats and data).

I do agree on this ocasion tbf. He is honest but yeah give it a rest Robin's with 'they are a good side' line. They are awful. Just say we must respect them but we are looking for 3 points. That would make a change. Bannon is playing for them, he wouldn't even get in our match day squad. So take that as a yardstick.

I reckon I'd take Bannan over Allen.

Just because he says things in the press conference doesn't mean he says it in the dressing room
Last thing any manager, (or player), should do is say something disparaging which the opposition manager can stick up on the dressing room wall and do his team talk for him

We know what they were saying about Watford behind closed doors last year. ;)

BTA starts. Surely. Dropping him after the win would be nuts and send out totally the wrong message. I love his energy and personality and I don't really get why West Brom fans don't rate him...

...but... I think we are getting a bit overexcited about what this means about him/Simms etc long term. That's pretty much the first game we've had any control over the midfield and in front of similar set ups last season Simms put in arguably more impressive performances.

Robins clearly likes calling Simms out and wants to see more from him but he is still only 23, scored 19 last season and he is a valuable asset - the obituaries are a little premature.
it’s not Simms’s fault, he’s been unlucky, haaland would of struggled in that team in the first 7 games, hardly had any service, I’m not writing his obituary 😂 just think he needs to change his game if he wants to be first choice, Asante and bassette ( remember him) press better, simms doesn’t do that as well, shame because he’s improving every game,he gives us a different option though, good that we’ve got 3 options for the number 9

gotta be BTA up top, then bring out the hound instead of simms, i feel when bassette gets a goal he'll become a different animal (no pun intended)

I think it’s a tricky one for Robins. Bassette is the more like for like change for BTA, and fits the system better (assuming we play the same as Wednesday).

But that effectively demotes Simms more - at least in Simms head who we know is very much a confidence player.

Not sure there’s an easy way to get both on either. Bassette plays off the shoulder so needs to be up front, and Simms isn’t a winger for me.

Not a bad problem to have is it 👍

I never said he would? The point being made is he is saying it in a presser that all the players listen to. Just stop bigging up the oppo quite so much. Every time he says they have good players he demeans our own squad belief regardless of what he might go on to say in the dressing room. Its a minor issue but I would like Robin's to be a bit more upbeat in his pressers.

He says this every time tbf. I’ve noticed it. Not every team in this league is had a wrath of good players. Doesn’t need to be derogatory but stop saying they are good!

Not sure he's ever been "upbeat" he's as dour as they come and clearly dislikes them. But he is respectful to the interviewer and opposition,. Nothing wrong with any of it

Getting your knickers in a twist over absolutely nothing - I bet even the players aren't bothered about half the things he says in the pressers because, unlike you, they understand that he has to be fairly welcoming in his comments about the opposition

IMO Simms is his own worst enemy to get service he has to make a better effort to lose his marker even when he gets a bit of space control of the ball is not the best. You mention Haaland watch if he is not getting the ball he will make greater efforts to lose his marker and get in a position to recieve it.Chalk and cheese. Improvement is there but I think at the moment Asante is the better fit.
For a guy of his build he gets outmuscled by players whom he should not.Don't want him to cover the ground that Eccles and Sheaf do but I do wish once a while he will come off we could say "he put in a great shift"
Is that oppo GK or in our favour that would be genius?
oppo GK.Wish they could lose their marker more often when attacking.

Going to be interesting to see if Robins keeps the same team. After what happened with Spurs he said he learnt a lesson about player recovery etc…

I'm sure Robins praises the team plenty behind closed doors. I don't mind how Robins discusses strengths of the opposition in interviews. Indicates he isn't underestimating any teams and there's no complacency. I just think he is being realistic as every team in this league can be dangerous on their day.

I think there's also an element of setting fan expectations as well and reminding us that there's no easy games.

I don't think we'll see much change. I expect the same line up bar EMC for Saka.

We spent the majority of the Spurs game out of possesion which would have been far more draining that Tuesday.

Now I've said that, cue wholesale changes!

These aren't the mugs they were last season so it'll be a much harder game
Still expect us to beat them if we show anything like the form we are capable of
