Well I didn’t hear either of them declare we were in a potential relegation battle and it would be “bold” to suggest otherwise. Thankfully they know the difference between a crap performance and a crap bunch of players.
The manager has wanted to build a possession based game. We are getting the lion’s share of it every week and getting 0 points and 0 goals. The question now is if he is willing to admit that it’s not working.

Robins probably has made mistakes here but I'd much rather he figure that out how to get us going rather than someone fresh. He deserves that opportunity and if people were calling him the best thing since sliced bread and should have a statue etc but now doubting his ability to turn around a blip start after wholesale changes then blimey. We aren't getting Pep and £200m to spend just so you know if we sack Robins. Give him time. A season isn't even long in footy, never mind 12 games or whatever it is. I'm sure we've even had a run worse than this with Robins before but he always comes up with the goods.

Not sure if you heard his post match interview but it’s quite clear to everyone it’s not currently working. If he thought we were mired in a relegation battle after 13 games then it would make sense to change things asap but I’m not sure he agrees with you.

Interesting stat. We have lost all the games we have had a significant higher amount of possession. The Rotherham commentary team mentioned it.

61% Wimbledon lost 2-1
64% Cardiff lost 3-2
66% Rotherham lost 2-0
68% Bristol lost 1-0
66% West Brom lost 2-0

Where as the 3 wins we had similar or less possession

49.5% Middlesbrough won 3-0
48% QPR won 3-1
34.5% Blackburn won 1-0

We aren't a possession team, we don't have the players for it. Even without Gus and Vik we are better on the counter, sucking teams out and then hitting them on the break[/b]

This is a cracking stat tbf, clearly shows we’re not good as a possession-based team. We lack the mentality and ability to be able to move the ball around with fluidity meaning we never cause the opposition problems, we don’t try though balls, we don’t try 1-2’s, we don’t pull defenders out of positions, we don’t try either ambitious or non-ambitious shots when we have the opportunity, it is SO predictable it’s getting beyond a joke now.

The box worked much better than the old 2 up top formation, I hope we don’t just shelve that because we conceded an offside goal and our keeper made a howler.

Lose again on Saturday and potentially be in 21st place just 3 points above the drop zone, I don’t think there’ll be much doubt. We can’t score even gilt edged sitters, keep giving away poor goals and the midfield remains lacking in dynamism. I mean I could be wrong and we go and beat PNE away for the first ever time in the league, but I imagine not.

Do possession based teams work effectively at any level of football where player quality is of a similar level? Only works if your players are two or three levels above the opposition it appears.

Having a high possession is usually a result of your players being so much better than the opposition, altering your game to artificially increase your possession stats where the players on both teams are of a similar quality rarely seems to be successful.

Although he said we need to stick with it, after he had changed it.

We could of played for another 90 and not scored tonight, which is felt was a combination of their solid defence and our quality in the middlefield lacking with creativity. We did the opposite last season, we had an amazing stat where the games we won were the majority where we had less of the ball, when we had it we struggled. The luxury we had was Vik of course, who used to make something out of nothing and occupy 2-3 players.

They weren’t solid. We had a lot of decent chances and flapped them, again. They’ve won because of Wilson and an offside goal ultimately.

Anybody see what was said on sky?
He said we were still building a side after losing our two most influential players last year.
Sky pundits seem to think we still may well finish in or around the play offs . I just don't see the logic of that.

O'Hare has just come back in for cameo roles off the bench. He makes us tick in and around the box. He will start next game. Wright is either utterly hopeless as a footballer (shocking first touch, lack of movement) or he has a huge onfidence issue. He had his chance to bring it tonight and failed. He needs some coaching work to find the footballer who cost 8m or someone made a huge mistake.

Sako is a threat, Sheaf is solid but laboured tonight. Allen not match fit. Milan was much better but lacks confidence to beat his man. The CB's are capable but we need to play without Faz I'm afraid. Wilson has been brilliant and every keeper has a mare once in a while.

Simms I thought much improved last game but was dropped? Godden has done nothing wrong and will always score.
The system is not working. We have good players. They are not all performing. It's time for a roasting and come in for extra training. Robins will get it taken care of, but it will require a couple of shocks to implement. Wright will leave in January imo. Simms will come good if they get his attitude fixed or he too will be gone. But it can all change quickly once the goals go in and the confidence is back.

Still early days and lots of points to play for.

It's worrying that they got 3/4 seriously major calls wrong tonight.

I'm in the absolutely minority but I'd take VAR-lite that they discussed last season. Basically an extra official on the touchline with an iPad. He wouldn't check every decision but would clearly look at those 3/4 tonight.

Honestly though what is the point of playing a back 5, playing defensively and playing to win possession every single game if we can’t keep a clean sheet? At home as well, it’s just so poor.

I’m still yet to see an advantage of 5 at the back and still yet to see us progress this season using it. The box worked a lot better today, I realise we lost but that was down to a poor keeper mistake and a shit linesman, other than that we looked more threatening. As soon as we reverted back to the 2 up top shit it fell apart again. I seriously hope we don’t go back to playing Godden and Simms up top in a 2 again. Play them individually as lone strikers by all means but as soon as we lose that extra midfielder we lose control of the game.

Wrong. West Brom had the better chances even after sitting on a lead for 75 mins. 1.96 xg v 1.82, 3 big chances v 2.

There is now a clear blueprint to getting a win against us. Sit deep, score from errors/set pieces and then sit back and defend the lead.
