We were limited by a very makeshift defence and without our best striker.
Wasn't the worst performance in the world against a good team.

Crisis! We lost to top of the league...
We were sloppy, but JCH should really bury that 1v1 and it’s a different game. Otherwise, I thought Portsmouth gave a very well organised performance that is typical of a good ‘away’ team.

Couldn’t go last night and only just read through the various posts but first I don’t understand the opening line up where were the forwards and where was the creativity for one forward. Surely just Hiwula for Chaplin was the obvious change. Robins said on radio we lacked pinch but what does he expect with one strikers. Also sounds if Doyle was off the pace too, I have a lot of time for him he’s okay on the ball notmslly but is sadly wanting now off it and a lot if not most of s midfielders roll is off the ball, times catching up with him fast. And what’s happened with Ogogo ? On the bench unused again, strange.

Not strange though when you consider how poor he was last time out.
No-one is really knocking on the door to take Doyle's place off him. Kelly is still seemingly not 100% match fit and Ogogo not proving he's worth a place.

I can accept mistakes from time to time because they are playing at this level for a reason....mind you so are all the other teams.
What frustrates me most is that we don't seem to have a winning desire. We played exactly as I thought we would with that set up.
There's no sense of urgency until desperation sets in at the end. It was very noticeable on Saturday how quickly Sunderland could change their thinking from defence to attack. We don't do that. Last night, one passage of play well into the second half, we must have had 12 completed passes without crossing the half way line
Is that the players lacking confidence to commit, or is that what they are told to do?

To be fair it seems Robins first choice this season would be Biamou and Chaplin. We can argue how effective either / both of them are but how many teams can lose both of their first choice forwards with no impact on the side?
