A risk ? He’s no risk he walks into that team 50% fitI wouldn't be doubting his ability. Once fit (could take a while) I'm sure he'd be a very good player and likely better than what we've got currently. Would I want us to take the risk on him? No.
Absolutely, although the £15m in wages he got over that time probably helps him deal with any disappointment he feels about his career tbfTbh the debate just illustrates how Drinkwater has wasted what should be the prime years of his career by leaving a club that had just won the PL to go to a supposedly bigger club where he couldn't get in the side
I’m not saying we should sign him. It’s a moot point as he’s on shitloads at Chelsea. However I bet the 2021 version is still five times better than Shipley, Allen etcDelusion comes in many forms. Drinkwater was a very good player, far above our station and was highly thought of by many including the England coach and Ranieri. The 2016 version was at the top of his cycle, today he is seen as not worth the risk by Burnley, Villa and his own club Chelsea. To say he couldn’t get in to our team and improve it is plainly wrong, however I suspect the lustre has come off his play, his reputation and his motivation.
I believe it is delusional to believe the 2021 version is worth the risk, actually I think it is folly of the highest order and would not be in the interests of Coventry City unless it was a motivated, energised player you were getting. Evidence suggests otherwise.
It’s madness that people think otherwise. I’d understand it if he was 35 years old but he’s still only 30.Bloke whose played for England, won the League and has played in the Champions League would not be our best player if we somehow signed him. Ahahahaha
Yet played less than 20 games in the last 3 seasonsIt’s madness that people think otherwise. I’d understand it if he was 35 years old but he’s still only 30.
Easy to say but it’s risk against reward.I’m not saying we should sign him. It’s a moot point as he’s on shitloads at Chelsea. However I bet the 2021 version is still five times better than Shipley, Allen etc
I love Hamer as much as the next guy, but Drinkwater was a key part of leicester’s premier league side, played in the Champions League and England caps.He is no where near better than Hamer
More than a little harsh I would say. Personally I have far more time for fans who rate and support our players than those who deride them.Maybe the detached from reality was a little harsh but when I maintain that there are a fair few who majorly overestimate the ability of our players and how much they'd command in transfer fees.
I didn't say he was the same player he was when he won the league but if he was fully fit he would be one of the leading players for any team in the bottom half, and dare I say it, the whole league.
Which club do you think Hamer will win the EPL with?More than a little harsh I would say. Personally I have far more time for fans who rate and support our players than those who deride them.
I don't think Drinkwater based on his recent record would be a good signing. He wouldn't sign for us anyway. I would far rather have players with potential and passion like Hamer than Drinkwater who has all the makings of another Steven Walsh or Tim Sherwood.
I reckon Hamer will achieve more than Drinkwater over the next couple of years. I suspect many of our other players will too. I accept you might be right and I might be wrong but I don't think I am detached from reality for having these views.
Which club do you think Hamer will win the EPL with?
Which club do you think Hamer will win the EPL with?
You
10 matches in the last two and a half years and I don't believe that is due to injuries. How much do you think Drinkwater will achieve in the next few years?“And many of our other players” - we have the best Championship squad ever assembled if that’s the case
