Sorry, was she there yesterday? My understanding was she was on holiday an therefore couldn't speak for herself - so it is relevant here isn't it?
Stop being so desperate to defend her and looking for problems where there aren't any. It's getting silly.
Agreed and I don't think anybody questions that. However it isn't clear to some the extent of her remit, what does 'performance' mean as well as 'various avenues' as to what she does. Is it psychology, food & nutrition, data analytics, a combination of the above?I can’t. If someone sees “performance” in her job title and then links that directly to performance on the pitch I have difficulty understanding how someone with such simplistic thinking functions.
Yes she’s going to help players reach peak performance and fitness through various avenues but it’s pretty obvious the manager and coaching staff have most influence on the pitch isn’t it?
To be fair mate. You say you want discussion on it but are shutting everyone down suggesting they are “regurgitating what king said without thinking about it”, “desperate to defend her” and “calling anyone sexist when anyone dares to raise questions about her”
The responses to you ARE discussion
Im not desperate to defend her but her being on holiday was used recently to highlight the club being in turmoil.
More than a few have taken their own assumptions, turned them into facts and got worked up about them.
Who else from the backroom staff would you bring instead of Austin?
Why would you bring anyone?
Why would you bring anyone?
Just me that’s happy with signing success rate?
even the poorer players I think there’s decent players there.
the squad balance is slightly off - need a CM like, but generally happy with the quality we’ve signed
Back up if things get tasty

Austin sounds like he does people over in car parks for cash.
Dougs car was in for its MOT so Deano thought he would give Doug a lift after the forum - simples!Who else from the backroom staff would you bring instead of Austin?
I don’t particularly think the goalkeeper is an urgent replacement, which is why I didn’t get the Dovin signingThink we’re lacking GK/defender quality and depth and quality in midfield. And suddenly with Wright out the front line looks a little ropey as well.
Other than that we’re good.
whats he done since?
Failed as a manager and coach now trying his hand as a technical director
like I said. more positions than lati
if he’s king go to person than surely we would want someone more qualified?
How many more GKs do we need?!Think we’re lacking GK/defender quality and depth
How many more GKs do we need?!
Many clubs chairmen have no experience in the game.Given DK is a businessman and not experienced in the game; I think it’s more than valid to ask who’s advising the owner on recruiting the new manager.
I think Austin’s done a decent job in his current position but I’m not convinced he should be the owners go-to for advice on the new manager (that’s if he actually is.. and if he isn’t, who is?)
It’s a bit concerning tbh.
I would spend the money on a new CB or CM five or six times over before I even considered yet another new keeper. The addiction needs to stop!OK GK and CB quality CM and fullback depth
Just one more. This one will be commanding I swear.I would spend the money on a new CB or CM five or six times over before I even considered yet another new keeper. The addiction needs to stop!
King has already stated he wants to bring in a director of football...
Well, not quite. He said it was something he was thinking about looking at in the future.King has already stated he wants to bring in a director of football...
ignore him, he's a weirdoI was responding to this "The Performance Director has been defended to the end of earth, but other than the childish comment about coming to Ryton in order to deflect, she still holds some responsibility"
Responsibility for what? She is not involved with anything in game or to prep for game in training = the word performance in performance director, doesnt equate to performances on the pitch.
Who, if we are being sensible, should be in place before hiring our next HC.
ignore him, he's a weirdo
All that is fine, though sounds like they've given Head of Sports Science a fancier job title. Her role was literally explained last night. She is there to put things in place, to get the players to training and to games, in the best condition.
Covering off their diets, sleeping habits, rehabilitation protocols from injuries, their strength and conditioning programmes in the gym, managing their workloads and mental health too. The things that make a professional athlete, a professional.
That is the role of head of performance across the country, and Doug spelled it out last night. She probably doesnt even attend games, she doesnt need to other than from the perspective of supporting the team. She has no role on a match day
All that is fine, though sounds like they've given Head of Sports Science a fancier job title.
However, one thing that seems a bit strange is that I swear it was said at the time that she was part of the team selecting the new coaches. I don't really see how that would be her responsibility at all given what her remit supposedly is.
He didn't come out and state that himself though, if he had I would have been more impressed, he was responding to a question from the floor where it was asked will you be having a Director of Football, and it was like a light bulb moment, 'oh yes we will have one of those'King has already stated he wants to bring in a director of football...
Just one more. This one will be commanding I swear.
A modern day Jorge CamposI'd be willing to support you mate, but only if we can sign a dual-position goalkeeper.
I know it sounds radical, but I'm sure there's one out there.
In my (dog shit Sunday League) experience every keeper I've ever played with, without exception, wants to play outfield in training (usually up front).
Surely there's one out there that can do us a job as a niggly centre-mid/centre-half when he turns out to be crap in goal. They're usually big lads who like punching things.
