He must have been quite an age, He was around retirement age when I was there in the 90's.

R.I.P. Mr Tranter.
He was a fairly young man when I started there in the mid-sixties.
I wrote to him on the occasion of his retirement, which was, as you say, a good many years ago. I still have his reply letter somewhere.
Fabulous teacher. And I'd only say that aboit him and Jim Wilkinson.
There weren't many that would invite you to his home to share food with his family, due to not being able to get home and back to school in time for an evening function. That was my form tutor Bernard (before his promotion to Housemaster - at Smith-Clarke I think).
Rest easy fella.

Jim was a good teacher, I was just shit at art. He had great calligraphy when he did the commendations though.

Think Tranter was a deputy head by the time I was there - Brignall was housemaster of S-C then.

I got on with most of the teachers (even some a lot of kids hated) but i will give a special mention for Mrs Wolger, who gave me extra help during her free time. It was much appreciated, though I fear as a teenager I didn't express just how grateful I was (partly because I didn't do as well as either of us expected and I felt guilty)

Dave Allen from Gang Of Four. Probably won't mean anything to many people, but he was a good guy and the GoF were great.

Fuck, that is so sad. Such a cool guy and a fantastic drummer.
Awesome drummer. Absolutely drove the sound that Blondie made, imho.

The lad is learning the drums (thank God for electronic kits!). I put on Union City Blues the other day, and told him when he could play like that, he's made it. 😁

(See also, Neil Peart, Rush, probably less to your taste though Torchy!) 😄

I quite like some of that stuff. Not necessarily rush but a lot of prog like Camel, Gong, etc.
Krautrock too like Neu!, Can, Harmonia...so much music, so little time!

Another great drummer was Jeff Porcaro too.

clem burke. blondie drummer. 🙁
I missed this on Monday. Genuinely saddened, which is rare for emotional vacuums like me.
Amazing drummer and very cool guy!
Luckily got to see Blondie in London about 15 years ago. Absolutely amazing to see Clem's movement around the drum kit

Probably my favourite track too. Will put it on in the car on the way home, turned up to 30!

they were great live. saw them a few times.
he was heavily influenced by keith moon. you can see it if you watch him drum.

huge loss. a lot of that generation are passing, unfortunately. but their music and influence live on.
we were lucky to have had them. and have their music with us for the rest of our lives.

Embarrassing, I know, but I was talking to Debbie Harry once, and didn't even know it was her!
I was working for Fed-ex some years ago and I had a delivery for "Blondie Productions" at the NEC. I made my way there, where there was loads of young people hanging around outside. I assumed that Blondie Productions was a hair dressers convention or similar. Anyway, I had to gain access via a couple of security guards. Once inside this huge, empty arena, I had no idea where I was to take the package to. A woman approached from somewhere and asked me what I wanted. I told her and she said, "Follow me". When I delivered the package, I noticed pictures of Debbie Harry and Blondie all around this office. I said, "Is someone a fan of Blondie?" The reply was, "We ARE Blondie! That was Debbie Harry who showed you in here!"
Needless to say, I exited very embarrassed!
