Back to the box.

Bit surprised going that way that Jones wasn't given a start and that Godden has the lone striker role (with 4 others on the bench)

Difficult to know how much is choice and how much is necessity (Fadz/Maatsen for example) but let's see how it goes.

Thought Shipley was surplus. Hasn’t featured for ages, but gets in before Jones, joke decision that.

he’s started loads of U23 games and the injury generally is non contact isn’t it?

Guessing out of necessity given they're not on the bench. Not like we need to rest players at the moment. Surprised Moore & O'Hare not starting too.

The problem with COVID is we don’t know who has trained or how has after effects of COVID. With Jones’s injury record it might not be worth playing him if not fully fit. If however he does come on the decision to not pick him is strange. However if Shipley is playing CM as a 3 then you wouldn’t play Jones there. Also you would still pick Allen above Jones at the moment as the attacking mid

Collectively it is. Our team starting without Moore,Maatsen, Fadz,O'Hare, Gyo. They'd all strengthen that team imo. Hope JCS isn't too rusty. Bit concerned about him/Dabo link up. Shippers to score! Derby have gone very strong. Let's hope for the rub if the green and Hamer to come through unscathed.

Wasn't Jodi isolating before Christmas due to contact with the U23s? He was on the bench against Millwall so had finished his isolation, and came on for a few minutes, but has hardly played or even possibly trained much in recent weeks.
Others are in the same position, but may have been in MR's thinking.

Yeah we don't know the fitness, illness status of players but assuming everyone in that squad is 100% fit except waghorn, for me this is a game where we throw in Eccles, Jones and play viktor back into form. I'm assuming Wilson was g'teed all cup games as part of being number 2 otherwise I'd have Moore in too who now won't have played for a month
