DAVID McGoldrick says Coventry City have resurrected his career.
The in-form striker admits he was flagging at Nottingham Forest where he struggled to string more than three starts together in the three years since he signed for £1million from Southampton.
But after wading in with six goals in ten starts for the Sky Blues (seven if you include his second at York which has officially been given as an own goal but which the player is justifiably claiming), he said: "This is the best form I have had since I was at Southampton.
"I never played this many games in a row at Forest, where the best I got was three consecutive starts, so this is great for me to be playing so many games.
"I always knew I would come good and I just want to keep it going and keep scoring goals.
"I haven’t played regular football in three years and I am just grateful to get this chance at Coventry.
"I am going into each game thinking I am going to score more goals."
Fans are desperate for City to sign the loan player up in January when the club could become a victim of the forward’s success.
Out of contract at the City Ground next summer, Forest are likely to listen to offers for his services in the New Year transfer window.
Alternately, manager Sean O’Driscoll could welcome him back to the fold if he continues in the same vein, particularly considering his current crop of strikers are struggling to get going.
Billy Sharp is yet to open his account seven games in to his loan spell from Southampton, while £2m summer signing from West Brom, Simon Cox, has managed just three in ten and Dexter Blackstock three in nine, with Forest chalking up just 11 goals from their first ten Championship matches.
Asked about his future beyond his initial Ricoh loan spell, which runs out on January 2, McGoldrick said: "I promise you I haven’t looked that far ahead."
But he’s clearly enjoying his spell in the limelight, adding: "It was great to get another couple of goals at Swindon, especially before half-time. I was thinking in the dressing room at the break that I would go out and get some more.
"A few of the boys said to me to go on and get a hat-trick but I wasn’t thinking about it during the game. I was just concentrating on trying to get chances and unfortunately I only had one chance in the second half and it wasn’t to be.
"The team is growing with confidence. A month ago we would probably have lost that game 3-2 but we’re really starting to believe in ourselves now."

We'd need to offload a couple of players for fees if we want to sign McGoldrick on a permanent deal. Only issue is, none of our so called 'deadwood' would be snapped up by another club if they had to pay a fee IMO.

I'm obviously pleased he is getting goals and in form - however it is a real shame he is not one of ours and on such a short loan - the better he does in the upcoming games will likely see him off in January IMO - that will be a big loss for us - we need to keep hold of him and that will require money

Money that Fisher and Waggot have already said is available. We'll offload some in January I'm sure of it. Robin's could probably talk to Forest about a player for player transfer with a little money going Forests way to sweeten the deal.

Question is...who would go to forest? McDonald perhaps? Maybe O'Donovan or Jeffers? Even McSheffrey could be an option. Yeah people are going to say "but who would want them" but maybe the problem is the same one that McGoldrick has had at Forest. Not enough opportunities and a decent run in the team to prove themselves.

That is more a situation for Jeffers and O'Donovan but if we want Goldie then we need to make some sacrifices. I'd be happy with Robin's giving Forest two of our current squad for Goldie. It means you lighten the player wages enough to cope with Goldies wage demands.

At fans forum Waggott said clearly that there was no way we could hold on to McGoldrick after Jan as we couldn't afford either any fee or his wages and Forest were looking to off-load him for a fee - when did the gruesome twosome say money was suddenly available? ROD and Jeffers cannot get into a struggling first division team - why on earth would a well financed championship team want them? Sorry much as I would like to see McG stay on I am afraid we will have to look elsewhere in January - just hope there is someone available and the club are still willing to fund it.

More likely to be Thomas , Christie or Willis Richie, thats without factoring in the need to raise a further £1M. to cover the projected £3M. loss for the season ,which hopefully Keogh and Bigi's fees have been offset against.

Forest wouldn't go for anyone in our squad, barring maybe Fleck or one of the up and comings like Clarke, Willis or Christie. But even then I couldn't see them going for that. The more likely option is off loading players such as ROD, mcsheffrey etc. There will always be teams to take on those players although its doubtful we'd get much in the way of fees.

Fisher and Waggot also stated that the new manager will have to work with the current staff?. The playing staff already there?? Robins has changed their minds there. I'm sure if things pick up and by Christmas we are looking good with DMg still banging in the goals. Robins will ask I'm sure and so far he has got most things he was told he wouldn't.

Do you think that forest would really want players of much lower quality than that's already in their squad? If we offered them ROD and/or Jeffers plus money they would right tell us to feck off! I can't see them being interested in Sheffers or Cody either.

So forest (who now have very strong financial backing) wouldn't want mcgoldrick back, but instead would want a player who can't get into our squad and the pittance we could afford to give them??!

What planet you on?

Ashbyjan - They released a statement saying money would be available for the new manager to get in loan signings to boost the squad and further on in the January transfer window when he will be given the funds to restructure his squad the way he wants to.

Plus Ricohroar has a point. Robin's has made his intentions clear, they must work to his demands if SISU are going to get the promotion they desire. If Robin's wants to keep Goldie, he'll make sure he gives it a good go. He's already said players are going to go in January and he'll find them clubs to go too.

With his contacts, I can envisage most players he wants gone will go regardless of whether you as a supporter think it's impossible or not. He knows what he wants and I have faith he'll get it one way or another.

I'm a pretty whacky, open minded person, but even this post made me shudder.
To even think ROD Jeffers of Gary Mac would come anywhere near Forest's first choice squad, is just plain ridiculous. Hence the ridicule.
None of our current crop would interest or strengthen them in my opinion. If they did, they would have already been sold!

Greggs - stranger things have happened have they not? Like Deegan going to Hibbs and actually doing quite well (apart from having jaw broken in a street brawl lol)

Those names were mentioned purely speculatively and were by no means said because I think they're any good. But I do think a player deserves a chance to prove he's better than what he has so far proved himself to be. And I think they're teams out there that would give these outsider players a chance.

I reckon his stock value has more than doubled, not to mention all the Forrest strikers are playing shocking this season... Its going to be very hard to retain him due to this.

We've negotiated with Forest regarding Goldie already, like i said, if they had interest in any of our players they would already be there.
Deegan is a c**t

Only way we keep Mgoldrick is if we extend his loan, or he leaves forest for free in summer and we can get him. Apart from that he will not be a permenant player. Would love to see him at the club full time as geniunly belive he is the 20+ striker we need in this division.

with regards to ROD, Jeffers if there was intrest in these players they would be gone already i reckon. basically we are stuck with some of the driftwood till we can get rid on frees. i think that realistically robins will strengthen again in januarary but with the loans he is so found of.

Deegan is a c-unit

I agree he is a c-unit but he is still playing better at hibs than he ever did at Cov.

Only time will tell will it not whether we keep him or not...

Still trying to work out if this post was made in humour or not - Jeffers is at Tamworth and ROD couldn't get into a CCFC 2nd XI right now, why would Forest want them?? Why would they want Cody or Sheff who can't get past Goldie in the first team here?

Oh for the love of all thats Holy...why don't you readmy reply to Greggs before writing this first...here ill give you a helping hand seeings as your incapable of doing it yourself!

Happy now? I think i more than justified my reasons for suggesting them...i don't think they're great...and im not saying it will happen...but what i am saying is suggesting there are options other than buying him right out.

And as i later said to Greggs:

I agree he is a c-unit (Deegan) but he is still playing better at hibs than he ever did at Cov.

And there have been plenty of other Ex Cov players who have played crap for us but brilliantly for other clubs after they've left us.

I'm sorry that you've had your head snapped off but ive had a bad day and you unfortunately stepped into the firing line!

It wasn't purely speculative, you basically said that Forest could take ROD and Jeffers in exchange for McGoldrick - lunacy. I had a bad day too but why not engage brain before posting

Right i've highlighted the beginning of this sentence...when you ask a question, what are you doing? You speculating!

If i actually thought they'd take them (which i don't) then i would have said Forest will definately take ROD and Jeffers so we can have Goldie. Now THATS lunacy!

It was me suggesting possible players that could (notice could, not will) be used in a player exchange.

We want players gone, Robin's said he'll find clubs for those players as we want Goldie.

People were saying how we wouldn't be able to afford him so i suggested an alternative...

So in my eyes purely speculative!

SBIan - at the end of the forum Waggott stayed around and had a conversation with about ten fans and one asked him about McG and that was his reply. I would love McG to stay and maybe things changed but I think the matter will be out of the clubs control anyway as forest will ship him to the highest bidder and let's face it he's a championship standard striker.

Even the suggestion that Forest would take two significantly poorer quality players than Mcgoldrick is lunacy

We would struggle to convince a conference side to take on O'Donovan and Jeffers

Edit: I don't think a player exchange is a bad idea, however the players you have suggested are ridiculous. As someone said earlier it would probably involve us having to swap the likes of Cameron, Clarke, Christie, Willis or Thomas

It is nice to believe that there are players in our squad that Forest might want but lets get real for a minute. It is clear that McGoldrick is head and shoulders above anyone in our squad by a long, long way. Why then would Forest give him up in exchange for any amount of our lower quality players? It's also okay to think that because Forests current strikers aren't banging them in that Forest may welcome him back with open arms but you've got to remember the difference in quality between our two divisions and this again highlights why Forest wouldn't touch any of our players with a barge pole. If McGoldrick can't make an impact at Forest imagine what the rest of our squad would look like.
