...on an epetition to force a parliamentary debate? Should be feasible with the help of the wider football community. Perhaps this has been suggested or tried already, but now would be a good time. Can't do any harm.

What would the subject of the debate be? The plight of CCFC, The incompetence of the Football League in administering the game in this country, the rather stupid Administration laws in this country that allow corrupt officials to screw over the innocents or Global warming?

Needs to be about football governance. As general as possible.
Something like "We, the undersigned, would like Government to acknowledge the failure of the Football League to act in the best interests of fans and to create legislation to ensure the history and community of this nations sports teams are given priority over the business interests of club owners."

Great idea in principal, but I can't see the government doing a thing. Surely the Football League / Premier League or whatever are now pretty much controlled by the TV companies. It's a multi billion market and it's something ANY government wouldn't want to upset the apple-cart over. There is too much at stake with tax revenue, Party "donations", back-handers and the like.

100,000 does not get you a debate!
Not a guarantee no, but they have to have a pretty good reason to turn it down. According the direct.gov 'If you collect 100,000 signatures, your e-petition is eligible to be debated in the House of Commons' and then it goes to a committee. Nothing to lose though surely?
As quickly as possible please Michael. Strike while the iron is hot as they say. An independent inquiry looking at all sides is needed. Maybe needs to look at the bigger English football picture though.
No worries. Friday provided the perfect launch pad. Just sorting wording with relevant people and sowing seeds of support elsewhere so should be good to go later in the week
Break it down, it's not that daunting...lets get Nick to message 500 forum members on here (there's got to be more than that, right?). 'If' 500 members can get atleast 100 each, we're half way there. Then there's got to be approx. 160 league clubs in England and Scotland (as well as the Conference), so if we contact all their supporters clubs, we need 312 each. Some will give us more, such as Hull, Pompey etc.
I know we won't get 100 fro 500 forum users or all 160 (ish) clubs will get 312, but numbers are certainly more palatable when broken down. I could get 100 I reckon (lots of Pompey/Saints fans who have seen their fair share of sh*t).

For sheer numbers, contacting the biggest clubs' supporters clubs will net tens of thousands by themselves. A good message to include in the marketing of such contact is the line "Your club could be next." Arsenal fans on Friday proved that there is a willingness to unite behind a common good and stand shoulder to shoulder in solidarity.
I live in the USA, so may opinion on this may or may not be noteworthy. However, I agree wholeheartedly with the above statement and approach. An emphasis on fans and ownership is not enough, but a reminder about the defense of history (individual teams as well as the role of the game in the national sense) and community pride & sensibilities needs to be paramount. Individual teams will have similar, yet distinct, problematic situations, but governing and regulatory bodies must be held to the highest standards to ensure that the fans, communities, and history are preserved. Many teams supporters are feeling the shaft -- such as Hull City, Portsmouth, Wimbledon, Cardiff, Coventry City-- because of an unwillingness of the powers-that-be to take a hard nosed approach to reigning in errant ownerships.
A wide and general approach should be taken, with the abovementioned teams serving as examples to lack of proper stewardships by the authorities.
I can recall not particularly caring about Portsmouth's demise, or Stockport Co.'s exile into oblivion... They weren't "my team's" problems. Yet, now I care, and maybe, just maybe, if fans of all clubs unite behind the common good to say "We will stand up against attacks to ANY club's rightful history and community," everyone can be better served. Is there any such sort of Super Supporters Trust that encompasses fans of all teams that can serve as a watchdog group? If not, can we as Sky Blues start one, and invite others to join?
Personally I think we can manage 100k. If we don't so be it, but surely it better to have tried and failed than not tried at all.
At the minute the momentom is definatly with us especially if we keep Friday night fresh in the minds of football fans everywhere, not just Arsenal fans.
If we don't act now a week or so and it will be forgotten about
But the likes of Alloa Athletic won't but I get your point! I'd be more than happy to contact some of the clubs....doing my bit and all that!
