I said “quite Well”The tyranny of low expectations. Below inflation pay rises now “doing well”
But the clusterfuck (a) shouldn’t have been a surprise and (b) wasn’t £22 bn according to the OBR.They said that they’ll take tough decisions that need taking and after finding the clusterfuck the last lot left yes that was one of them. I’ve already said I’d have reversed the NI cut, but I’ll take benefits from the wealthiest demographic as a backup over service cuts.

Fixing the economy after 14 years of neglect will take a little longer. But growth is happening even if it’s anaemic as it’s been since the crash.
Is your new Labour membership skewing your perspective on how they managed to get that rise ?(support from Labour donors ?)Most train drivers are in the private sector (for now) and have done quite well.
From the document you linked
GDP: Muted economic growth momentum ahead
Following a rebound at the start of the year, UK GDP growth is expected to have slowed again in the second half of 2024.
and
Labour market: Firms could see easier hiring and wage growth ahead
But the clusterfuck (a) shouldn’t have been a surprise and (b) wasn’t £22 bn according to the OBR.
Is that Q2 calendar year 2024? I.e. before the election.Disposable income is up since June:

True, but the £22bn fairytale was used as an excuse,Well WFA isn’t £22bn either.
True, but the £22bn fairytale was used as an excuse,
It was for Truss, wasn’t it?It’s all a bit silly anyway. No government impact is shown in macroeconomic indicators this early.
Elton Fucking John, I wonder how much his tax bill is?Do you think they’re pocketing the money Malc? The question remains what would you cut to that tune to give Elton John his £300?
It was for Truss, wasn’t it?
What about Rod Stewart?Elton Fucking John, I wonder how much his tax bill is?
Why would Los Angeles be paying for UK train drivers?I think there's something about that payment now coming from La, whether it changes anything?
What about Rod Stewart?
I don’t think it has diffused through yet.Is your new Labour membership skewing your perspective on how they managed to get that rise ?(support from Labour donors ?)
Was brought up in family of 4Do you think they’re pocketing the money Malc? The question remains what would you cut to that tune to give Elton John his £300?
Was brought up in family of 4
Me and my sister paid nothing for for our keep
Mum worked part time
Dad worked all hours to keep us paying 10 fold.
At Christmas we gave out small gifts should we have told dad to fuck off as he had more money than the rest of us despite being the biggest contributor to our household.
If we don’t all feel better off by the next election they will have failed,
In that case we best give the guys who fucked us over immeasurably for 14 years a go. It's about time they had a chance!
Would have put up the additional rate of tax by 1% to 46% so he would have paid for it himself. And mine,Do you think they’re pocketing the money Malc? The question remains what would you cut to that tune to give Elton John his £300?
Isn’t that the Problem though, the pendulum swings. In that case we best give the guys who fucked us over immeasurably for 14 years a go. It's about time they had a chance!
They were, I think, his words. In that case we best give the guys who fucked us over immeasurably for 14 years a go. It's about time they had a chance!

It's a good point if more paid in we'd but in a better position than we are, what I was trying to put across was that I support the case of those that can afford to give more should do so but I wouldn't exclude them on small gifts having paid over and above the contributions they've put in. For someone whose paid in millions to help others £300 is surely a drop in the ocean.Don’t you mean you should have told Mum and the kids to get back to work so Dad can spend more of his own money on himself?
That would be a change. No give it to the people who think milk is woke and chemtrails are making us believe in climate change.
It has only been 5 months, but it has been 5 months of talking stuff down. Anyway, the more important matter of a football match now.I'm no fan of Starmer but until the day they left power the previous government were blaming the last Labour government so not really sure why 6 months in following 14 years of an absolute shitshow there's an expectation for everything to be sorted, or at least on the way to being sorted.
Sure I'd love to see a bigger vision and for them to do something to inspire hope that there's better to look forward to and there is definitely a large element that feels like more of the same but you've got to give them more than 6 months!
This Government was elected on a mandate of change at the July 2024 general election. Our full focus is on fixing the foundations, rebuilding Britain, and restoring public confidence in government.
The Prime Minister can call a general election at a time of their choosing by requesting a dissolution of Parliament from the Sovereign within the five-year life of a Parliament. The Government was elected by the British people on a mandate of change at the July 2024 general election.
This Government is fixing the foundations and delivering change with investment and reform to deliver growth, with more jobs, more money in people’s pockets, to rebuild Britain and get the NHS back on its feet. This will be built on the strong foundations of a stable economy, national security and secure borders as we put politics back in the service of working people.
On entering office, a £22 billion black hole was identified in the nation’s finances. We inherited unprecedented challenges, with crumbling public services and crippled public finances, but will deliver a decade of national renewal through our five missions: economic growth, fixing the NHS, safer streets, making Britain a clean energy super-power and opportunity for all. This is what was promised and is what we are delivering.
The Government’s first Budget freed up tens of billions of pounds to invest in Britain’s future while locking in stability, preventing devastating austerity in our public services and protecting working people’s payslips.
Mission-led government rejects the sticking-plaster solutions of the past and unites public and private sectors, national, devolved and local government, business and unions, and the whole of civil society in a shared purpose. The Government will continue to deliver the manifesto of change that it was elected on.
In what way? The Fixed Term Parliament act was repealed in 2022 so from that point on its up to the PM when he wasn't to call an election. The Bold emphasis is mine. Its at odds with what some have stated on here, certainly wasn’t my understanding.
I, and some others, must have missed thatIn what way? The Fixed Term Parliament act was repealed in 2022 so from that point on its up to the PM when he wasn't to call an election.
