I voted for the not Boris Johnson option. I've said this many times.

i see so who did you vote for in 2017? I was rather bored at that one - I don’t think I voted in truth - may have green actually

it’s clear you view elections as presidential - was it Corbyn then as well

This is tedious. What is the point of this? What are you trying to achieve here?

You obviously view them as presidential too given you voted for the not Jeremy Corbyn option in 2019.

No I thought he’d be a disaster as the Sinn Fein suck up was opposed to my ideology

It’s clear Mr Binary has no ideology

I won’t vote for Truss and I didn’t for May

Can't help but think you might turn this statement into a "I didn't vote for Truss - I'm not in her constituency. I voted Conservative" at the next election.

this is bizarre - everyone else on this thread to my knowledge would openly say who they voted for. I am more than happy to tell you who I voted for in every election I voted in and why.

It’s very odd you seem ashamed of who you voted for.

Was it the BNP or something?

In all seriousness 2019 was the most bleak election to vote in of the ones where I’ve had the privilege. It was a pretty tight call between just not voting and putting the cross next to Labour.

BBC News - Hungary's Viktor Orban fires up Texas conservatives

This is all a bit Handmaid's Tale isn't it and well lapped up by a room full of American conservatives.

No mixed races, arming and man and women only relationships.

He seemed to go down very well there in Texas .

I imagine they’ll also try and blame Ukraine War, Cov-ID

They’d be right too. I’d imagine most countries will be in recession over the coming months and it looks like all have high inflation, with ourselves and Europe in particular likely to see this sustained due to the war. BOE shouldve stopped QE sooner and started raising rates a bit earlier but not sure that would’ve had a huge difference on where we’re at now (might’ve got inflation down a bit)

What I’m looking out for is how the government tries to minimise the length and depth of any recession and in turn the impact on (good) businesses and the public. That will be the time to judge whoever is in charge. I have to say if Truss gets in, which looks nailed on, I’m not overly hopeful. Our biggest hope is external good news ie the end of the war

I’ve said before and I’ll say it again, you cannot lockdown the world for months, pump hundreds of billions into the worlds monetary systems, have cheap/free money for all for years on end and not expect any negative impacts. Most people were rightly shielded from that he economic impacts of the pandemic whilst it was happening, this is our collective payback…unfortunately Russia decided to start a totally unnecessary war to exacerbate the shitstorm for all

He's popular with the tories as well.

Back to the tories:

Liz Truss really, really is shit isn't she. I mean her winning will be great for the Labour party as she is utterly clueless and once the "shiny and new" poll bumps subside all Labour will have to do is basically be "not Liz Truss" but fuck me I feel for the people who's lives are going to be ruined by her utter incompetence. Things are going to get bad and she has not clue whatsoever to deal with it and will likely make it worse.

It's going to be shit. Somehow they manage to unearth even shitter ones than the ones before.

She's has however managed the impossible, and made me long for a Sunak led government.

It's Hunt vs Johnson all over again!

It isn't just her, it is the entire party. There is no moderation of what she might do because they are a bunch of freaks

Wonder if Johnson would try to ‘take back control’ before 2024.

Wonder if he actually believes what he says?
They both just seem to be trying to get as many buzzwords in as possible to win Tory votes at the moment.

I used to think Rishi Sunak was a bit more of a safer option, but some of the stuff he's been coming out with recently is pretty mad
He started being conservative small c, a nice 'traditional' one advocating doing what he thought was best for the country - keep taxes up, keep spending up.

Once he fell behind he's gone all mental, trying to out-right Truss (but still trashing her economic policy, which surely means he won't be anywhere near her cabinet?!?), which really he needs to give it a couple of years before he reinvents himself in that way. Bit pointless really, as now it's obvious she's going to win, all the 'names' are pretending they always loved her, always thought she was the best candidate!

Who knew I'd find myself dreaming of a John Major figure coming through(!)

Fucking hell.

That should be the end of him. In reality it'll probably give him a bump in the polls with the Tory members.

At least he's honest I guess. What a c**t.

He would’ve been better standing firm but delivering a proper longer term vision for the country and how he planned to get there. That would at least help bring context to some of his current unpopular messages/policies

As you say, he’s just coming across a kid flailing about, pitching to the base but it’s too late and he’s losing personal credibility in the process
