What the fuck
They've truly lost the plot
I see Suella Braverman has promised that the police will visit every burgled household. Given the heist her and her mates have performed on the general public over the past 12 years that should only be about 25m houses across the UK.
For those too young to remember it was just as bad in the 80s and 90s.
If you think I'm being biased, just listen to Truss's speech, she paints a bleak picture of life under a tory government.
It’s not difficult to say that you will ensure safe routes for refugees and asylum seekers are put in place allowing you to focus eliminating illegal immigration. The ‘optics’ are a bit odd. Focusing on inefficient deportation seems to be far removed from the root cause of the problem.

Worth noting it's not possible to be an illegal asylum seeker. It’s not difficult to say that you will ensure safe routes for refugees and asylum seekers are put in place allowing you to focus eliminating illegal immigration.

It’s also worth noting the language around this is deliberately misrepresented by media and politicians alike.Worth noting it's not possible to be an illegal asylum seeker.
The 80’s and 90’s to me were great
I think it’s actually illegal to make them illegal. Unless we brexit the UN off course.Worth noting it's not possible to be an illegal asylum seeker.
At the very least - if you provide safe routes for refugees/asylum seekers then you take them out of the hands of criminal gangs.Numbers are increasing and putting the cost asside, we can't let people risk being killed in an overcrowded dinghy. There were loads killed the other day near Greece, how long before that happens in the channel? Braverman looks a bit too determined but what's the alternative answer to the migrants problem, clearly something needs to be done.
Yeah but aside from that…At the very least - if you provide safe routes for refugees/asylum seekers then you take them out of the hands of criminal gangs.
The answer is not to send them off to Rwanda, but to take our responsibilities to people seriously.Numbers are increasing and putting the cost asside, we can't let people risk being killed in an overcrowded dinghy. It's Michael Jackson in reverseAlan Leeds has undergone a quite radical transformation judging by the first two photos compared to the last.

Wokie nonsense.
Like on Endor?
FFS
Endor is a forest moon, home to the Ewoks. The only Wookiee who's even known to have spent any time there is Chewbacca, who was part of the Battle of Endor strike team, and he left for his home planet of Kashyyyk almost immediately after the death of Emperor Palpatine. A better reference here would have been "Like on Kashyyyk?", which is the forest planet that hosts the Wookiee species. You have lost all credibility here.

It’s like my childhood in the 70’s again. Mass strikes, racists everywhere and now
4 day working week next
Very unlikely we'll get rolling blackouts at home.... a lot of people will be reducing their energy usage naturally as they literally can't afford it anyway.
Coal fired power stations are on standby to make up for any drop.
If they had any sense they would use the 15m+ households with smart meters dirt cheap tariffs at off peak times (Smart meters can handle up to 48 different tariffs 1 every half hour) to encourage people to put dishwashers, washing machines etc on over night.
3 hour blackouts would be horrendous these days with house alarms going off all over the place.
There's already one or two City players who are switching their energy off during games, so it could work in some circumstances. There's talk of some sort of incentive scheme to drive/discourage use at certain times.
Not sure exactly how it's going to work.

Of course we could not reduce taxes, even put them up, offer better pay deals and avoid the need for strikes...Strikes are taking place because rampant inflation, a majority of which is driven by energy prices caused by the war.

I'll pick this bit, as it's the bit I respond to. Criticism involves picking out the elements to challenge, and the above was the element I wanted to challenge, so I did just that. You said about strikes, but the government has the power to avoid strikes. However, they choose a policy that will fuel inflation further (and that's not Putin or China's fault) whilst not dealing with the issues in their own country, instead choosing a growth mantra that will, also, fuel inflation further, and will probably not result in growth either.I hope people read the whole post rather than pick certain lines or comments (not just aimed at you NW but happens with most posts that might go against the thread line of everything is the governments/our own fault)

It's a red herring to constantly blame something that yes, may have been the catalyst, if the government then exacerbates things. Strikes in this country, however, are not the fault of Putin!
"Money printing" is not the issue there is no surplus of demand in the economy. Just supply shocks for various reasons. Not sure all this can be all be blamed on the current governments (which admittedly is a shit show)
Strikes are taking place because rampant inflation, a majority of which is driven by energy prices caused by the war. The remaining element is due to amount of money printed to prop western society up during Covid and subsequent post Covid demand/supply issues.
Potential black outs could happen across Europe due to historical reliance on Russian gas, mainly by Europe who have now had to return to our energy market, pushing up prices and using same finite sources. We could/should have had better storage but ultimately I’d hope Europe will help us out as it’s only thanks to us piping converted liquid gas to them that they have filled up their storage and aren’t already facing mass black outs
There are plenty of issues we are facing that the government has caused and/or certainly not really helped with, but by pointing the finger at ourselves for these issues gives Putin and China a free pass* and doing ourselves a massive disservice. Remove Covid and the war from the the last couple of years and we don’t have a number of the issues we currently face, or certainly nowhere near the level of problems.
We have rightly decided to stand by Ukraine militarily and economically and are now paying the price/suffering the consequences for the sanctions. As a country we should be reminding ourselves of this and should be proud of the steps we are taking and the price we are paying, albeit minor when compared with the Ukrainians.
All that being said I wouldnt trust Truss in a benign period of government let alone in a crisis !
*Germany have also had a far greater role to play in the energy mess we are all facing
Ps sorry for the long rambling message but people need to look at route causes of problems and focus on holding government to account for stuff like last weeks shambles !
