Almost forgot. The Tory membership also includes made up people and tortoises, not just nutters.

The issue of non brits who have never lived here, never paid taxes here, not eligible to vote in a British GE voting for the Tory leader so therefore by default the PM was an issue highlighted in the last leadership contest, the fact that made up people and people not eligible to vote in a UK election are picking yet another PM is a major problem for the Tories. A problem that they’re not interested in addressing.

Just to add. This is the party that wants to reform the voting process in a GE to stop a vote fraud that doesn’t exist.

Imagine the Daily Mail/Express/Right-Wing-Nutters howling if there was voter fraud like this identified in a union strike vote.

Where is he? Seems strangely quiet, unless I’ve missed him spouting nonsense.

oh he's an incessant stream of gibberish mate. Was praising the mini budget as the best thing since sliced bread not long ago but now's turned on Truss and is currently trying to set up an alternative to the tory party, (hope he succeeds).

Don't know how you manage to avoid him, he's like nitrous cannisters, he's fucking everywhere but if you've got any tips I'd appreciate them.

I'm wondering what the hell it's going to take before we start seeing actual protests? They're clearly only interested in saving their own hides and won't call an election until they're forced to, we can't have another two years of this lot fighting amongst themselves while there's a war and energy crisis raging. Maybe once the blackouts hit...
People are unlikely to protest over the political situation. Even if Truss hadn't resigned they wouldn't have protested. Even when Johnson prorogued Parliament the protests were small. Most people wouldn't really care if democracy was overturned. However, they might well protest seriously when the cost of living crisis really hits.

I want to blame Covid for messing people's brains up, but the Tories are such a detached odd bunch that they are probably getting some perverse enjoyment out how much of a piss they can take.
It's like musical chairs in a room of people with personality disorders.

I think it’s bigger than that Steve. The parliamentary party is split into at least 3 and the party membership is full off nutters. They could end up with a handful of MP’s and membership of posh UKIPers, it will cease to be the “broad church” they famously brag about being. I don’t know how they can recover from that. They’d need a complete new wave of membership to turn the car around.

I think you’re right about the different factions and as a lot of commentators have been saying they need to consider what they really stand for now (even Farage was alluding to it in that comedy video posted). Get Brexit done and anyone but Corbyn won’t obviously work any more. The latter was probably the bigger draw for MPs to all pull together. Starmer doesn’t pose that same fear for many so they’ll likely keep up their internal battles even if it ruins their chances at the next election. They just appear on a death wish at the moment

The membership has got to be a concern for the party. Not only that they voted for Truss but their age and the fact there’s only 160k of them to start with ! Need to get their shit together but don’t see it happening any time soon

They're fighting a civil war on our time with our money in times of crisis, its unforgivable.
Fortunately they appear to be tearing themselves apart, the sooner they do the better.

I think I’m actually starting to hope they elect Boris. There’s more than enough signs that rather than be a unifier he’ll take the last swing at the wedge that will blow the Tories wide open bringing an early GE. I think the public will respond to the return of Boris badly and they’ll lose massively. The short term damage might be ripping the band aid of quickly. If Sunak and Mordaunt get together and sort out one of them standing aside so there’s a unity PM I think they’d give the Tories breathing space, steady and country a little and the possibility of the next GE being in 2 years as scheduled.

Based on that theory the return of Boris might actually be the best thing for the country but not for the reasons his cult think.

Johnsons return will definitely damage them. There may be a short term bounce but in the long term it will really mess them up.

Conservative home has come out strongly against him this morning as have other party seniors. Obviously he's got strong support among headbangers like Mogg and his cronies.

Whoever Tories elect, their `reputation' on economic matters is irretrievable.

All they'll have left is client media promoting irrelevant culture war nonsense while people freeze/starve this winter

Personally Im pumped for never-ending stories about woke pets and cancelled bigots

Until about 6 years when after a term in power Labour have, unsurprisingly, been unable to fix the mess the Tories left them and all blame is put on Labour being irresponsible, and Tories are the only ones you can trust on the economy

And the electorate will lap it up.

That's my fear, anyway. My hope is that more and more people are becoming wise to to the Tories now. They're basically dead to the under 50s.

Not sure that’s true - Generation Z is liberally minded but actually more right leaning compared to Millennials, IMO.

Between the current fuck ups, brexit damage to the economy and the failed austerity measures that didn’t shrink the debt but did stifle growth leaving us ill equipped to deal with covid they’ve royally fucked up the economy and for a long time. It wasn’t just Truss either, every Tory leader and every Tory government formed over the last 12 years has contributed to the mess, just some more than others.
