Do you want to discuss boring politics? (20 Viewers)

Not really. If you can’t get the political will to go Birmingham to London good luck getting your Nuneaton to Bridlington line built.

Also you’re studiously avoiding the point that if you don’t increase capacity where people are using the train you can’t release capacity to serve everywhere else.
What? If you build a line from London to Birmingham/Manchester more people can travel from Norwich to Bristol? For that to happen you have to have the infrastructure between Norwich and Bristol to allow it.

Anyway, I'm largely talking about things like broadband and mobile phone connectivity as a means of regeneration. Road, rail, air and seaports are obviously still vital, especially for businesses that buy and sell physical products.

That's what a few hundred thousand pounds spent on an Eton and Oxford education gets you.

Saw those faces on the poster and thought it was halloween.

Patel and Truss are state educated. Patel went to Keele Uni

So for example NPR is a project to connect the North from Liverpool to Hull. A key part of it is the HS2 link between Manchester Airport and Manchester.

No surprise really they spent years backing the wrong horse by supporting those stripey bastards and wasting millions in the process.
As much as I agree that they backed the wrong horse, don't be under any illusions that their problems do not relate solely to central government slashing their budget in the context of ever rising demand for services.

To see that c**t Ed Balls (husband of a prominent shadow cabinet member) and Osborne chatting cosily on a podcast last week made me feel sick. Osborne is vermin.

Lots of councils are in precarious positions. Wonder when government will recognise central funding needs to increase...?

They recon there’s at least 26 councils that are in danger of going bust in the next 2 years. Including Tory led councils. Tory led Kent is the next favourite to go bump apparently.

If the Tories are resigned to losing the next election then why would they bother? The problems can occur in the term of the next government which will surely have to breach its ludicrous cast iron fiscal rules to restore sanity.

I think generally so far the ones that have issued S114 notices have mostly been Tory councils. Northamptonshire was one of the early ones and we've had Kent since. Heard something about Surrey too.

Wouldn't be too surprised if Farage became their leader within a few years.

I am trying to get over seeing the video of him dancing with Priti Patel.

If the northen part of HS2 is scrapped, then should we atleast be looking at the restart of the electric spine, which includes the electrification of the Coventy-Nuneaton line, and beyond. So we can have a decent line into the East Midlands.

Should of really of had this when the first part of HS2 was cancelled.

Can you get better value for money by upgrading exsisting lines, instead of building new ones?

Only because there’s less planning issues. I’d imagine there’s a much lower ceiling on upgrading Victorian tech though.

Warwick Parkway. Built in the middle of nowhere, instead of, well, let's say Coventry. Who had this fantastic idea?

It not uncommon. Does the line not acually go into central London?

Good to see the 'highly' rated TaxPayers' alliance getting a mention in the Cov Tel.

I thought the think tank had lost all credibility after this in 2015.

A think tank director has apologised for "crass" comments he made about cutting pensioner benefits.

Alex Wild, of the Taxpayers Alliance, said the government should act fast to make cuts because many of those affected would "not be around" at the next election to vote against them.
