Our problems started way back last season after the Wolves game with Dennis Lawrence leaving. Our league form after the Wolves game wasn’t great, but we were in the FA cup semi final so it kind of masked it. Then Adi Viveash leaving in the summer, totally out of the blue and no one knows the real reason why he was booted out. To me, i think that was pre-planned, because quickly after we had all these new coaches arriving - The club taking a new direction, following what most other clubs are doing.
Tell you one thing, he needs to get this right otherwise the backlash will be much bigger. The new ‘Head Coach’ will need to hit the ground running straight away.

@Saddlebrains said on another thread that Lawrence wasn't offered a new contract. That was the first time I'd heard that but it just adds more weight to the theory that this has been in the planning for some time.

Probably true, could have been planned all along, even back then. I think this is the catalyst to our downfall we are all seeing this season. The honeymoon period is well and truly over between Doug King and fans. He has to get the next manager right!

I accept you don't like his song (won't get sung again by City fans), I also get that he looks like a 'posh ex public schoolboy' which doesn't resonate with your average football fan, but this decision is hardly spineless (he knows how popular MR is with the fanbase). I think he'd made the decision before the Luton/Boro games, and has already got someone lined up. We;ll see who that is early next week. 99% of City fans love MR, and will be forever grateful for what he has done, but something has been off for at least 6 months, and DK has decided to intervene. It may be ruthless, but that doesn't smack of spineless. We will need to wait a few months to see if it was a terrible decision or not. Next 5 games or so are horrible though. PUSB

Just makes me hate King that bit more actually, it's a deliberate cutting out of Robins legs from under him so he's ultimately got the excuse to sack him and bring his own guy in. I'm glad most of our fans can see through it too, I think Doug is about to learn exactly what MR meant to most of us.

When King came in, I feared he would want to put his own man in charge. I don’t think he should have messed with the footballing side, we’d had several years of sustained improvement, he should’ve let Robins continue doing what he was doing, and sorted all the non football aspects of the business, until a time Robins and his team stopped delivering. Instead he slowly and systematically changed the structure of the football side - something by his own admission he knows nothing about, and it seems to have backfired. He has then ripped the beating heart of the club out in sacking Robins, and not realised that football is about emotion, selling shirts and season tickets was about emotion, and Robins connected the fans back to what was a dying club,

For me King is your archetypal football owner. Cash rich yes, big ego yes, football nous no. It’s a scenario that has played out thousands of times. I believe that’s why we’ll end up with “a name” rather than necessarily a good manager.

With current form it doesn't surprise me. However I believe Robins deserved more time, based on his track record and previously having turned poor form into good form.
King have had a honeymoon period with honey drizzled all over it.
He has made his call, which he is entitled to do but is taking a big gamble. If he gets the appointment wrong we could be back in League 1 and find ourselves in a tailspin.
It could kick us on and if that is the case I would be the first to congratulate him for his vision. However football history illustrates that most incoming managers fail.
Time will tell. But I think now the pressure is on King rather than the incoming manager. Future results will rest and be judged on his decisions.

"A cowards decision " is utter bollocks. He's given himself time to find the replacement. It takes massive bollocks to sack a managerial legend loved by the fans . He stands or falls by this decision- its a massive gamble on his part. Spin is not a good trait.

i believe it is a cowards decision to do it so far away from a home game, to go into hiding until his orchestrated “fans forum” and refuse requests for national and local media to talk to him.
Also ABSOLUTELY ludicrous to sack Robins AND THEN start looking for a replacement.
Spin is exactly what he will do on Monday, he wont be held to account for it.
