Would you reliably get 2000 hours of work a year consulting though?

And we’re talking about marketing grads here, not top end consultants.

Although I was being factitious to an extent I did say if someone develops to be even semi competent in SEO and Digital Marketing they would earn a significant amount of money. Its eye watering - I was born 20 years too early.

If you went for it, yes…I have done 160 hour months and have the grey hairs to prove it these days…I also have a waiting list on standby…there’s a lot of work out there and a big gap of decent talent.
I have no marketing qualifications whatsoever.

Is it as easy as it looks?

Never too late to learn :p

Some of the consults I’ve seen have been pretty shocking, even I spotted some of the errors they were making.

Its a joke - honestly you have no idea - some guy approached me with some offer and it was a grand a month to have SEO for my company - it amounted to two hours work a month. He said it would double my sales. I said to him I would pay him two grand a month and if it did not double my sales I would want my money back. He said I was a twat it does not work like that. He has doubled his rate in a year and his order book is full.

Its all rubbish by the way

It does seem that way. Certainly Ads and SEO seems pretty straightforward from what I’ve seen. I’m sure there’s more to it I’m not seeing but the SaaS business I was at saw basically no return from their money.

I used to dabble in SEO and it’s not all rubbish but it is a bit black box and constantly changing as companies tweak their algorithms.
Problem is because it’s a bit opaque and tech based it’s easy to learn the very basics then bullshit people who know nothing about it.

A lot of these companies also hook up to EU funding - which is still available until June - and then you get the EU funds to pay 31% of the fee. Great in one sense but its an easy ride for them and it just means they make more money

I think its a load of shite really. Its a smoke and mirrors load of nonsense
It’s honestly not but it can take time to gain traction…if you were actually quoted that much per hour you were being majorly ripped off…unless he was a top level consultant.

What would you want him to say?
“I understand that the fans have been left on tenterhooks over the course of the last few months, as we’ve finalised the details of this convoluted takeover. Thank you for your patience.
My next act as owner, is to give Mr Robins a mighty war chest fit; one that would fell a rampaging rhino due to its sheer magnitude.
We have several targets in mind, all top tier players, and wages are no object to me.

Operation Premiership is now in effect!”

…that’s what he should say.

Yeah these guys I employed did fuck all - they came to see me and I showed them that the activity they did was nonsense and the search criteria to create a result was narrow and useless

TBH aside from the ground situation I’d rather he shut up than gave us promises that he inevitably won’t keep. And all I want to hear on the ground is “talks ongoing” then “talks done, ten year deal sorted”

SEO is largely vanity metrics.

Unless you put significant time and money into your website - namely on the content side of things - then it's pretty worthless.

Depends what you want to get out of it I guess. It'll certainly drive traffic to your website but that's pretty much about it.

As someone who used to have season tickets but no longer does, maybe I have a slightly different experience of CCFC marketing. They always send pre-match and post-match emails with nice links to the relevant stuff on the website, and before Xmas I got emailed an offer for half-season tickets, as well as an update about the club shop. They could certainly do more, but it wouldn’t be right to say they aren’t using their contacts database at all.

My honest view is that unless you PPC - which also is a waste of money - the search facility generates little opportunity. I do not even really subscribe to the first page theory. Its the Map and you need to be on that map as most searches are for local solutions.

Yeah I’d imagine that’s very common. My partner works in marketing and even a lot of the legitimate SEO companies are winging it.

Funny you should say that. I work with one and it does seem that they just Google: "How to XYZ" half of the actions they promise to a client I'm currently working with.

When asked about something during meetings the typical response is: "let us come together as a team to discuss and we'll get back to you."

I think we're getting a bit off track but once you have the fundamentals sorted. Most SME's would perform better with content writers to drive engagement.

A lot of these companies also hook up to EU funding - which is still available until June - and then you get the EU funds to pay 31% of the fee. Great in one sense but its an easy ride for them and it just means they make more money

:ROFLMAO: I'm corporate now but in previous companies, this was very true. Also when councils come to the end of their year and need to spend their cash on some initiative that was doomed to begin with.

Where does Sky Blue Sports and Leisure sit? Fisher still a director and still has charges to the master fund.
So from what I can tell SBS&L had control of Otium. However, DK is now the person with significant control of Otium and all of its charges have been satisfied. This seems positive?

I guess the next thing to look out for is if SBS&L is dissolved?

This is not my field at all so I’m sure others will have a better idea.

Talking of marketing SEO is Ok for my industry which is sales based but Football is completely different. You need to get folk invested from a young age which has got fuck all to do with websites. You need to make them life long supporters and take them on a journey and thats done by engagement not fancy algorithm's. You have lost them by the time they are 7 or 8 as they've made the choice and you can only sweat your asset, our fan base, if you are offering them something more. If you want more out of a football club you need to build it by getting into schools, giving young folk better access to the club and staff. That snow balls up and its a thing that SISU failed at despite the best efforts of PR. Just an opinion.

It's an important aspect of nurturing the younger fanbase but something that'll almost certainly be done already.

It's also difficult to give greater access to players and staff. Kids will ultimately only be interested in seeing the players/Robins and I'm pretty sure - someone correct me if I'm wrong - that they're only contracted to a certain amount of hours per season to do that kind of community outreach work.

As an employer the club can't just force players to kick a football with school kids during their time off.

Isn't it priced by features and users? CRMs aren't really my area of expertise but I was speaking to a contact not long ago about how the one they were using (the name escapes me) was also priced by data storage.

Its quite a while since I purchased one, but yes features came into it, as did consultancy for set-up, training and support.

Number of contacts were not an issue though, but as I said, things must have changed. (not at all surprised by that)

The charges were effectively a mortgage secured against different assets including Ryton.

I still suspect SISU entities hold some of the preference shares. Preference shares get first dibs on dividends I think and also if the company is wound up they have greater rights to a return than an ordinary shareholder.

Not been able to check CH properly yet but the Prefs will have their benefits defined - but you will have trawl through the records

I was off in my own head, just imagining what he ought to say. 🤣

I agree though, no bullshit on transfer funds or the ground situation, we had enough of that with Tiny Tim.

I doubt she is earning £40k a year

Most in house marketing managers really aren't earning that much. It's a pretty saturated market now which has in turn vastly driven down salary offered for those in the field.

Better off going freelance really. More competitive but if you have half a brain it's not really all that difficult to win business. Majority out there have little concept of how to formulate and action an effective strategy.
