I was as baffled as everyone else by the decision to drop him for Wilson. Not sure whether he was rattled before or rattled as a result of being dropped but fuck me his confidence is gone and he has not got the mentality needed for the situation we are in.

The poor guy needs an extended period of time out the side and get collins in or some to in.

Not only did he inexplicably dive out of the way of a shot from the edge of the penalty area (if he literally stayed still it would have hit him) but even before than he was doing weird roll outs of the ball to defenders when their players were clearly ready to press immediately. Wasn’t helped by Lati not being at all comfortable on the ball but generally extremely poor distribution and even when he went long he spooned it every time.

I’m sure he’ll be a top keeper one day but not the answer for me unfortunately

I don't think it was such a .major error. The ball was whacked into the ground and the bounce deceived him.

All keepers make errors - look at Jordan Pickford for God's sake. He's young. We should stick with him.

Chopping and changing keepers every couple of games isn't the answer.

Yeah. It looked an awful mistake, but the QPR player completely miss-hit it, so you can sort of see why Dovin was anticipating a shot into the corner and he just didn't react in time.

Still a poor effort, but I can see why it happened. The guy completely scuffed it

Both goals last night were goal keeping errors.

We are making errors all over the park, when your keeper makes one it’s more immediately obvious.

we have to build a team, not chop and change every other match.

The higher up the pyramid you play the more it’s about patterns of play, rehearsed routines, anticipating what your team mates will do etc etc. it’s not like Sunday football where people just turn up and try their best.

Alarm bells were ringing the first 10mins when the ball is harmlessly bouncing to him and Bobby Thomas decided it was safer to kick the ball into touch.

Robins really knows how to manage a keeper doesn’t he

And what was going on with those roll outs. All our players statuesque looking at Dovin. So fucking weird.
I agree that questions do have to be asked about Robins goalkeeper management. 5 keepers in 5 years isn’t normal.

He was at fault for the goal, but Dovin is way better than Wilson. This tactic of knocking it around between our defenders and GK is suicide when you have Lati in the middle who looks like a nervous child when the ball comes into his feet, and Thomas who makes regular wild passes. Both are decent defenders, but stop trying to play like Man City please.

Based on what exactly? He likely has a higher ceiling but right now I've seen nothing to be convinced of. Quite simply, however badly people say we played last night, if he stands still we win that game. Imagine the meltdown on here if Wilson had done that?

I'm not quite sure what the guy has to do in some people's eyes, they simply won't give him any credit at all.

He looks on the frail side physically to me - even if he's listed at 6ft2.
But just as important he needs to find a voice. He's got dodgy CBs in front of him. He doesn't look like he knows how to take control of situations.

You’ll be called a caveman for that.

Thing is you talk about taking him out because confidence is gone then mention getting Collins in, who was arguably worse when his confidence went and I doubt it's improved.

Still unlikely. They’re just not that important to success at our level.

Just mentioned him in another thread but Johansson seemed the obvious signing to me and he has saved Stoke 0.5 goals per game so far on the xG stats.

Dovin is -0.1 per game and Wilson -0.3

Small sample size and that gap will close, but that's still pretty vital to success I'd say.

Ben Wilson won the golden glove two seasons ago. That was as much, if not mostly, to do with what was in front of him.

No he was above average for shot stopping that season and had a positive post shot expected goals.

He deserves a lot more credit for that season than he gets.
Well if he’s that good we shouldn’t have spent millions on that position.

Imagine my surprise when you completely miss the point.

I didn’t think there was a point

Out of interest what were Collins stats versus Wilson last season?

The point was that Johansson is outperforming Dovin (and Wilson) so far this season.

Collins was comfortably better than Wilson last season (but worse than Wilson's 22/23 season).

So Collins should be ahead of Wilson then

He’s no better or no worse. Wilson-a league 2 number 2 for the majority of his time who has been stinking the place out this season again till he gets injured, finds himself in the Championship as our no 1 despite numerous other keepers who we’ve had on our books.
It’s laughable and the finger should rightly be pointed at the goalkeepers coach.

"stinking the place out"

Probably best stick to refereeing.

Some honking opinions on this thread about a 22 year old international keeper.

The bloke clearly shapes up to put it the side Dovin was moving and shins it into the floor and it bounces over 2 defenders. It makes Dovin look silly but not much he can do about it realistically, and I think you'll be hard pressed to find a keeper that would disagree.

His distribution was fine last night, if he put a defender under pressure his was ready to receive it straight back and clear.

One mark against him last night was his indecisiveness and lack of command early on but with Wilson and Collins as the other options we can't say a change of keeper would fix that. For me, he grew in to it after the first half an hour though.

It's almost like people don't understand goalkeeping.

Also he likely doesn't see the actual strike so has to guess as lots of keepers have to, as you said the lad shins and it goes in but 9 times of of 10 he hits it properly and it goes where Dovin moved to

Johansson was terrible at the start of the season and at fault for a couple of goals.
