Otis. I did see the BBC thing and it really does just confirm that although they are supposed to be impartial they aren’t and haven’t been although anyone watching their reports and bulletins could see that. It did amuse me as the report came out just as I was ‘rambling’ on about it earlier in the thread according to a couple of postersFor all this notion of the BBC not being impartial and left leaning, you might be interested to know that 8 BBC journalists have written a letter complaining about the BBC's pro Israel stance during this current war.
As for this stabbing incident, it seems an awful lot of people jumped the gun and to conclusions over there, listened to rumour and gossip on social media and went out on the streets to protest/cause trouble.
The perpetrator is seemingly a Irish citizen who has been in the country for 20 years .
I always think the sensible option is to wait until facts come to light and find out what really happened before simply jumping to conclusions.
Not much sense to be found these days though unfortunately.
We don't know if this was terror related or a mental health issue.
Best to wait and see rather than start polishing the pitchforks and frothing at the mouth, which many have clearly done.
I understand waiting for the facts to come out before reporting but my issue is with the language used when they are reporting in a lot of instances, not just the Dublin incident.
Part of the problem is that stuff is out on social media before the news in a lot of cases and people can see things for themselves rightly or wrongly before it’s reported.
This really puts more emphasis on the media to report things clearly when they do publish it to stop any ambiguity or misinformation.
For what its worth, if I hear or see something on social media or the news I’ll try to do a check on the other and usually find the truth or the root of it somewhere between the two. Plenty of people can’t or don’t which means only helps polarise opinions or views.
A lot of stuff reported in rhe media at the minute reminds me of the political spin doctors trying to twist things with their choice of words.
I used the reporting of Gaza to highlight this as its so clear.
For what its worth my money is on mental health issues for Thursdays attack as no sane person would do what that bloke has to 5 and 6 year old kids or any other human being for that matter.
As for the far right protesters, yes there were undoubtedly a few causing trouble but kids on scooters and chavs carrying boxes of trainers out weren’t them. The same could be said for a lot of ordinary people who attended the remembrance ceremonies but a lot of them were labelled far right too. I really don’t think it’s helpful.
