Asked about the 21-year-old who is set to be out for three months, the manager revealed: “It’s a hip issue and when we are talking about hip problems we are talking about that and everything else that goes along with it.
“So he’s going to need some surgery to correct it and that will be done imminently, and that just takes time to heal.”
As to how close the highly-rated midfielder was to being involved in the first team this season, the manager said: “He was going to be around it.
Pre-season is really important for everyone but for some players there was a chance for them to prove they were worthy of a place in the squad, or otherwise.
“Josh was doing pretty well. He had this hip issue from fairly early in pre-season, probably from a while ago and it has developed over time, so we just need to correct that and make sure he’s ready for the second half of the season, I would say.”
