Who do people think we will get?

who's in it ?

its a complete farce now, some EPL academy teams in some opted out, some championship teams in etc etc

they might as well have done this pre season and removed pre season friendlies. Have the mini leagues so each team gets 3 games and then knock outs. reduces games throughout the season and creates a bit more buzz pre season

ironically, sky would love that and more than likely be all over it

Complete farce. A competition which had some merit now completely devalued

1) it didn't clutter up an already full fixture list because the format demanded a result on every game night (and straight to penalties rather than extra time) now has a group stage!

2) The regional format seems to suggest an intent to keep travelling to a minimum. Except we are in the southern section again. We cd go to Newport, Yeovil and Plymouth.

3) "Invited big clubs" will play their academy sides. We might get the chance to see how Ryan Haynes plays against a 16 year old winger from West Hame or Chelsea or Swansea or even Reading!

Utter pish

the "best" group we could get is

Coventry City
Northampton
Portsmouth
Chelsea

Worst

Coventry City
Bristol Rovers
Plymouth
Reading

(in my opinion)

In the group stages, clubs will be awarded three points for a win and one point for a draw. In the event of a drawn game however, a penalty shootout will be held with the victors gaining an extra point.

That's not a bad idea actually.

you sound shocked ;)

it also gets full focus. Lets face it, even as a CCFC fan I will have very little interest in Cov v Wycombe on a tues night in Oct in this competition.

If it was on pre season, when very little footy is on tv, I would watch reading reserves v Exeter if it was on...Hell, I have been watching MLS due to no footy in the past couple of weeks

When do they actually announce the fixture dates, and home or away? I take it a team like West Ham will be playing their kids, or is it an actual genuine fixture?

(Yes I know we'll be playing our kids because we don't have a choice anyway) :D

its the West Ham academy. They have to field at least 6 under 21's.

West Ham academy v Cov City reserves

Also, only one of West Hams games will be at home, so we have a 1 in 3 chance we might be playing West Ham academy in an empty Olympic stadium, with Lee Burge in goal

Will they actually play it at the Olympic Stadium? The early rounds in the old format were bad enough with empty grounds but you could end up with a couple of thousand in a 60K stadium.

BBC Northampton have announced West Ham will not play any games at home. The format of this is a joke. In the past clubs have been put in North East, South West, etc. Now both Cambridge and Shrewsbury are playing Middlesbrough! Two 400 mile trips there.

Also FWIW West Ham are the one of the only B team clubs that would probably sell out. There are so many season ticket holders that even some of the local West Ham fans that will struggle to see them play there this season.

Yeah I heard that, crazy.

Apparently they've sold over 50,000 season tickets in a 60,000 seater. Even my mate is sharing a season ticket this year with his friend and alternating games.

Most are two years too. They're relatively cheap so they've done it to ensure the real West Ham fans get first dibs.

So much negativity around this forum..... we will see after the first few games that we win all the negative posters scream promotion. We are doomed before we have kicked a ball....umm

And it's all down to Haynes. Perhaps if he wasn't a ginger, he'd get a better reception from some of our more 'vocal' supporters...

Typical -home to Northampton. I was hoping for a nice midweek jaunt a couple of miles up the road. The season is getting worse by the minute!;)
