Yeah and he’s also 10 years older ffs.Godden has been top scorer for clubs, won leagues and got promotions. Simms has
done nothing compared to that. It does my head in when people are slagging Godden off and praising Simms.

No one is writing him off, every post I’ve seen is saying he’s been poor so far which he has been. It's ridiculous, just as ridiculous as writing Simms off this early in his time at the club.
Yes, Godden has had a good career coming from the lower leagues to where he is now, Simms is just starting his.Godden has been top scorer for clubs, won leagues and got promotions. Simms has

And? I was pointing out he’s done more than Simms in the game so a little respect is due to him.Yeah and he’s also 10 years older ffs.

He looks slightly like Ferguson at a distance but doesn't play anything like him.Simms reminds me a great deal in terms of his technique of Mick Ferguson , which will mean bugger all to those who are too young to remember the mid to late 70s. A bit awkward and slightly ungamely. Ferguson had the luxury of being able to play off Ian Wallace of course, but I do think Simms needs time to bed in and strike some kind of relationship up front .
He had a very good chance at Wimbledon, but other than that I agree it is a bit concerning he hasn’t really got into the sorts of positions to score.I can't really think of a single chance he's had to score other than one yesterday where he forced a save and the one at Leicester which he hit way to early.
It's not like he's missing chances like Godden has.
He took his goals well in the friendlies.
Give him a fair chance.
It's fine to judge his performances but remember Gyokeres early performances. We can only wait and see whether he improves or not. Not every player improves like that.Don't judge him yet
He will turn out to be a great player for us.
I remember one of Aston Villa's centre halves saying Ferguson was the hardest fucker he'd ever played against, said something along the lines that we kept him under the stand and fed him raw meet during the week and only brought him out on a SaturdaySimms reminds me a great deal in terms of his technique of Mick Ferguson , which will mean bugger all to those who are too young to remember the mid to late 70s. It was Ipswich.I remember one of Aston Villa's centre halves saying Ferguson was the hardest fucker he'd ever played against, said something along the lines that we kept him under the stand and fed him raw meet during the week and only brought him out on a Saturday
I vaguely remember him scoring 4 goals in one game, against Brum I think at HR.
He was an awesome partner for ginger haired Ian Wallace.
Simms and Wright will play together at some stage. Robins will know when the time is right. Let’s just calm down, and remember where we were this time last season.

I am not sure I have seen him win a header outside the box which was Ferguson's main strength. He is also much faster than Ferguson. Other than a slight physical resemblance there really is no similarity.Outside the area he plays a lot like him
Like him as well his success or failure will be determined on goals scored

Seriously in what way does Simms play even remotely like Ferguson outside the area? Ferguson was outstanding in the air and very strong and aggressive in the challenge. He wasn't quick or particularly skillful on the ground.Outside the area he plays a lot like him

Scored in an FA Cup Semi-final against someone, too!David Rennie has played and scored in the Premier League!
Football is unrecognisable now to what it was in the 1970s, watching a 70s game compared to a match now is almost like watching a different sport. Any comparisons like that are futile, and stupid. Anyone playing like Ferguson now would barely touch the ball and then be red carded in short order.Seriously in what way does Simms play even remotely like Ferguson outside the area? As I have said I can't recall Simms winning many (any?) Headers outside the area or making many successful challenges on defenders. He doesn't appear to be aggressive. He is reasonably good on the ball and fast when he gets going. So in my view he is totally different. Where is the similarity?
I agree the comparison is futile. But I wasn't criticising Simms. I just don't think he plays like Mick Ferguson did at all.Football is unrecognisable now to what it was in the 1970s, watching a 70s game compared to a match now is almost like watching a different sport. Having said that you’re a little quick to make that kind of assessment about Simms, it’s very early days. The list of players who started slow and became important players is a pretty long one- as we know Vic is one, you could also say Regis.. there’s quite a few.
Exactly. Just stay one of the positive ones! It has always come together eventually under Robins. Can't believe people writing him off already, new team, new system. Positive signs on Saturday and will get better, look at Gyokeres when he first signed, struggled to get in the team
You share the views of many a Sunderland fan. They are very critical of him and believe they dodged a bullet in not going after him. Despite him scoring 7 in 17.David Rennie has played and scored in the Premier League!
I think Simms is poor myself, may improve, but can't see it.
Like others, spotted him making a couple of runs into good positions not picked up by any of our other players.
That's part of the problem, shouldn't be spotting " a couple of good runs", he should be doing it all the time, if our midfield know that he's likely to be making a run into a decent position they'll look for it.
Most of the time he's static, so they don't have the opportunity to put it into a decent space.
From what I have seen so far, he's not the type of player to create his own chances
( like many strikers), but needs a lot more movement to stretch defenders and spot spaces to run into.
Often a thankless task, can be doing it all game and not get the ball through to you, but have to think that everytime you do that you will get that chance.
If anyone can improve him, Robins can, but not sure that player is there within him.
