I really hope we perservere with Simms. He's proven he can score goals, just need him in a more ruthless mindset

To be honest think Simms is another one like Dovin we need to stick with.

He was brilliant at Luton and since hasn’t had a start in the league. I like Norman a lot, but with the system we played feel simms will be better utilised as a poacher in the box trying to get into areas and onto headers.

This is one of my issues with us this year, we have so many confidence players but instead of building it just keep throwing people out the squad

I think 442 will end up being our go to when Haji is fit, him and Simms up top together, Tatsu and EMC out wide with Sheaf and Rudi in the center, back four of Milan, Thomas, Kitching and Bidwell with Dovin in goal

Scoring goals isn’t our problem, remember when dublin went centre half, maybe simms could play there 😉

Dublin was excellent at the back. If I remember correctly it started when we put him there if we were one up in a game and clinging on with ten minutes to go.

Simms has the build and is a decent header of the ball but, unlike Dublin, I don’t think he can tackle.

Simms race is run with me. I'd sell him in a heartbeat in Jan. Scoring goals hasn't been an issue for us with Simms or without.

His lack of effort is something I can't stand and there's very little game situation I'd have him over Haj, Norm or BTA.

Listen, I’m not suggesting there aren’t times when he looks like he’s not trying, but I think back to our game v Norwich last season when he was (to the untrained eye) just ambling round and then it came out post-match that they’d been effectively told not to press too aggressively. It’s been a big weakness in our game for a while and it’s what I’m most looking forward to seeing change under Lampard. There are definitely question marks over his ability to apply himself in that type of setup but let’s wait and see.

If Simms had started against Cardiff, we win the game. They had 10 behind the ball for most of the game when we had possession. At least if you get the ball into the box more, Simms is going to cause problems, due to his sheer size.
We've looked good at home against...Oxford, Luton, Blackburn & Sheff Utd. All of those came with attacking intentions, so we were able to play our fast counter attack football. The likes of Norwich, Swansea, Cardiff, Sheff Weds, Derby parked the bus.
Bassette is a great option when we're countering, but when teams are there to stifle us you need Simms in there.

Dublin also played CH at Selhurst Pk against Palace in a 3 v 1 win, whether he started there or was moved there after taking an early lead I don’t remember,he was the best player on the pitch

Happy to have a you told so at the end of year but think with the width of our attack and how many balls we put into the box, Wright and Simms will be the best strikers in this system.

Think Norman missed a few headers, Simms would have got on the end of imo. Really hope as per my post above he gets a run of games to get his confidence going

He had 3 touches in 24 minutes against Cardiff, as ineffective as Yakubu when were chasing a game.
Bassette didn’t do anything. He’s so raw, bit of a headless chicken unless he’s playing vs a high line and constantly getting in behind.

I’m sure some will disagree but Simms plays the traditional centre forward role the best of the 3, has presence, sticks to the right areas and occupies defenders.

Agreed about Bassette. He's clearly talented, but he's a long way off in his development to warrant starting week in week out.

He should've done much better with both of his chances vs Cardiff.

Yep, for most of the first half, Bassette was completely taken out of the game just stuck in between their two CB's.
Simms is a lot more suited to those situations and occupying their central defenders.

Completely different strikers though to be fair. Would be interested to see them play together, but don't think it will happen if we're sticking with 4-3-3 now

I think Bassette could play wide left if he could be trained. Has the pace and skill and has put a few decent balls I’m from there.

Yeah agree, he got the assist against Tottenham from that position as well
