Simms has only scored in 13 of 88 appearances in the league.
Most goals - including cup games came in a short run of games - he only scored 2 in his first 28
This season he’s returned to last seasons typical form. The run of games he scored in is looking more the exception than the norm
@Saddlebrains ?Guys just ask Saddle if you want the name he’ll DM you.
In his career before he came to Cov, he consistently had a strike rate of 1 in 3.
The use of appearances is heavily misleading because the headline is ‘6 in 40’ this season but you take the minutes he’s actually played, it equates to 25.5 games. In his whole Cov career, he’s played 5,501 minutes which equates to 61 games in terms of per 90.
In any case, he’s scored 26 goals in 5,501 minutes which is a goal per 212 minutes for us. This despite the huge gaps you outline.
For reference, Haji has 31 goals in 5,300 minutes (58 games) which equates to a goal per 170 minutes. Haji is approaching his peak and cost over double Simms so I’d expect a better return.
Why is there a motivation to airbrush his cup goals for us? He scored 3 goals v Prem opposition and assisted Haji’s winner v Wolves.
I wouldn’t give up on him at all, he’s had a difficult season this year. You could ultimately end up being right but to rush to that conclusion is hasty in my view.
I’d be interested in the extent of his injury to be honest.
The system we play now under Lampard is similar to the one under Robins where he was successful. We do sometimes struggle creating chances against the low block and there’s been plenty of occasions this season where we come v passive in the final third.
These are tactical nuances that Lampard will address in the summer irrespective of the league we’re in.
#metoo.@Saddlebrains and me.
He’s scored in only 13 league games
He's referring to crossed seasons though. If he'd scored in 17 games (Gyokeres) or even 14 games (Prioe) this wouldn't be on here. This season Simms has scored in 5 out of 41 (since you've not done Piroe, Sainz or Sargent on per 90 to suit this narrative). If we want to make all our players look bad, Haji Wright has only scored in 22 league games, out of 69 appearances. 20 games if you exclude penalty goals.
Even the top scorers in the league have a strike rate less than 50% this season. Piroe has 19 in 44 (scored in 14 games of those), and Sainz 17 in 39, Sargent 15 in 30 games.
It’s a ridiculous argument to make and you know it. Don’t believe me? Go through Gyokeres 22/23 season - he scored in about 17 games iirc.

Not me, I do not want the burden.@Saddlebrains and me.
It’s not a ridiculous argument at all - simms has scored in 5 games this season and 8 last in the league
Who had the highest GPM last season?
Don’t think this is the same player. Just based on the left centreback add onGuys just ask Saddle if you want the name he’ll DM you
Szmodics scored in 21 games out of 44. Likewise, Gyokeres in 22/23 scored in 18 league games out of 49 league games, which is under 40%.
If you took out penalties, Gyokeres only scored an open play goal in 15 games that season. He also scored a large % of his goals against teams in the bottom half. These are some of things people do to manipulate the stats behind Simms’ outputs.
In most leagues outside the top European leagues, the top scorers will rarely score in more than 33% of games.
At least be consistent with your argument. It's either per game or per minute. It's also including ir not including pebs and cup or no cup depending on which suits best. I agree that we're all showing one side or the other and there probably is some grey, but can't have it both ways.Szmodics scored in 21 games out of 44. Given the frequency with which certain posters are choosing to drone on about him, you’d be forgiven for wondering if this is actually true sometimesthis isn’t as someone who doesn’t want him to do well
You often quote MPG and include all competitions and you’ve not answered my question

I would assume Tavares had the highest last season if you include cup competitions
You’re kind of telling on yourself by replying so quickly to that post…I suspect Lampard will be sending him to the departure lounge in the summer

I'd send Bassette on loan and Tavares contract wont be renewed so it's a race to the bottom! Hopefully Obikwu looks great pre-season!… Our ITKs seem to think BTA is most likely being sent to the departure lounge before Simms.
We will need Simms against Luton. Need more aggression. The whole team were rubbish, apart from Patterson, yet Simms gets battered here, by "Cov fans".. he has hardly started many games.

We can make a thread for Haji if you like , its not like everybody doesnt call him out when he misses chances or its not like people dont call him lazy etc ..Disagree, it’s clear he’s being asked to perform a specific role and Jimmy87 has mentioned he’s playing with an injury.
The scrutiny should be with Haji who’s missed two massive chances in the last 2 away games. I’m struggling to see why he’s got a free pass here.
Such a disingenuous post honestly ..in the LEAGUE Last season he had a decent spell which was a third of the season , since leeds at home last season hes scored 6 goals in 47 appearancesIn his career before he came to Cov, he consistently had a strike rate of 1 in 3.

He created a great chance for Haji, which he missed. Didn't he create the goal as well?He has ZERO aggression, he doesn't even put himself about and challenge for headers. He just jumps in the air, and the odd time he does make contact he heads it to one of their players. He has gone backwards under Frank and looks completely lost.
The most half arsed presser I've seen too.
Nobody would be moaning about simms if he had scored 19 in 44 league games ffs , honestly what are you even on about at this pointIf we want to make all our players look bad, Haji Wright has only scored in 22 league games, out of 69 appearances. 20 games if you exclude penalty goals.

He is approaching a goal every 4 or 5 games since leeds in the LEAGUE last season .. his form is fucking wank a goal every 436 minutes since last April in the league
What is more disingenuous, using a sample of a players entire career at a club or one timeframe that you’ve decided on? It’s arbitrary to airbrush cup goals too but it’s clearly because it’s a lot more convenient for you. It’s either disingenuous or misleading, take your pick.
When you take non-penalty goals into account, Haji’s and Simms MPG is roughly equal and over the same period of time.
I don’t know how you’ve come to 436 minutes, that figure is 350 MPG for this season alone. Which, let’s be honest, isn’t good enough.
I can accept the possibility that Simms 2024 last season was a flash of excellent goalscoring form and may not be replicated. Equally, you ought to accept that Simms’ bad form this season could be down to a variety of factors and things will improve next season.
Haji is obviously a better player than Simms, but Simms also isn’t as bad as people like you make him out to be.
Why dont we support our players rather than dig them out when they put in an equal performance to the rest of the squad?
Hardly startedWe will need Simms against Luton. Need more aggression. The whole team were rubbish, apart from Patterson, yet Simms gets battered here, by "Cov fans".. he has hardly started many games.
