England or City (1 Viewer)

Both for me. Couple of years ago I would have said England but it switches. In fact pretty sure I did say it on here. I will say though, only thing that makes me cry is football, Coventry and England. Get so invested in it.

Actually right now it’s City. Good times are rolling.
Yup, I think it can switch. I do watch England friendlies and am excited to watch them, but you can't beat tournament football.

But like you say, if City had a game that could result in them being promoted, that would obviously be the most exciting moment in time. And besides, how often do City and England play at the same time? It's not like you have to sacrifice one for the other.

I will never understand the people that aren’t arsed about international football though. Or even actively want us to do shit and go on about it. Find it weird.
Definitely.

I can't get my head around it either. It's England. I watched the rugby, the women's rugby, the cricket, all in the last few days, because it was England.

If England are playing hockey in an Olympic medal match, I will watch that too. Same for many sports.

Always try and follow and support any England team going.

My mum was exactly the same and she didn't even like sport. My missus is the same too. Can't stand football, but watched the England v Italy Euro final and was gripped.

Iceland, it was said, were told England were the most overrated national team before their Euro 2016 tie.
I think that may well be true long before that tie and certainly after too.
They flatter to deceive and as a result I expect very little and that way I won't be disappointed

Well yep, I am not expecting them to do well. One, because of Southgate and his very negative tactics at times and two, because our defence definitely isn't good enough.

Will still cross my fingers and hope though. Semi-finals would be great considering the weakness we have at the back

Anything more than 3 days down the pub for starters will do me

You’d take 3 points over England winning the World Cup!? 🤣

I‘d definitely choose 3 points over England winning the World Cup - I’ve not felt ‘connected’ to an England team since probably the early 90s - especially now
They‘re dull to watch & I think it’s hilarious when they lose…even more so against teams ‘smaller’ than them
I can’t help the country I was born in & I just can’t feel anything towards any England team ever
City over that bunch of dullards every single time

City on a great run, a whole World Cup to cheer on England then back to city for the festive period.

Would rather it happened over the summer and we were already world champions but going to enjoy every second of the next month.

We have to get the prem, then the top 4 to qualify for champions league before we can compete for world champions. Going to be a minimum 4 years in the making.

I like to see England do well and will watch hoping we win but very little connection with the team these days. Very different compared to the glory days of Italia 90 - loved that team and tournament.

On the other hand, City not winning makes me depressed until we play again. Now even more so compared to the Prem days, I love this team, the last 5 years, our fantastic and now close to legendary support and Robins.

Not sure if I'm alone but a City win means more to me vs. England success.

And here’s the England are in a tournament club vs country debate.

Personally, every England away trip is on another level to domestic club football away trips, so I’m far more invested in England than I used to be. If we were in the Champions League, I would spend the vast money required following City over England though …but that’s never going to happen.

First tournament I’ve missed since Euro 2016 but not that bothered with it being held in Qatar and requiring £3500 + beer money just to do the group games.

Roll on the rest of the season and Germany 2024.

If Coventry lose I get upset....if England lose I usually laugh because I expect it especially with that negative dope in charge...about time we had someone who could actually make England football proud again but while the idiotic heirarchy keep employing yes men we will always be also rans

City for me and I’m not normally that interested in international football but hope Wilson and Maddison have great tournaments if that idiot in charge gives them a chance.

Surely Southgate has made fans proud of the team again? There was a real connection between the nation and the team when England reached the WC semis - it wasn’t just that achievement, it was the way the team opened up to the media and fans and generally became more likeable after some grim years.

He followed that up with the run to the EURO final which was unprecedented. Sure, you can say tactics v Italy (and the Croatia semi we should have won) weren’t as positive as they could have been but there was definitely pride.

I went to the final but Germany was the stand-out - absolutely incredible day full of emotion and exorcised demons. One of the highlights was having a drink in London after - every pub was full and every pub was rocking; that’s the beauty of national team football - the collective coming together on a vast scale.

I go to a lot of England games and generally dislike a lot of the fans but I got the bug for international football watching that wonderful Brazil team on our first colour TV in 1982.

Does it make me love Cov any less? No. Like England, we’ve had some shit years but I love this team as much as any we’ve had and it’s bringing such excitement (with a dose of despair).

I’ve been buzzing for weeks and hope this continues with England before we get going again.

City first everyday, rather city get promoted than an England World Cup win.
Didn’t someone say on CWR the other day the last time England won the World Cup City got promoted that season?

Season ticket for City and follow England home and away. Have had some amazing England away days (and a lot of terrible tournament ones) Southgate won't win anything as it's let's keep a clean sheet first and foremost when all our best players are attacking players. We have lost to average teams in Croatia and Italy despite being ahead in both games due to his negative tactics. I've seen Coventry win things in my lifetime, never seen England win anything so would take a World Cup win over a premiership return but maybe not winning the Premiership.

Much more reasoned than I would prefer 3 points for the City, even if it was England vs Brazil in the World Cup Final and City's game was a meaningless end of season mid-table fixture where we could neither go up nor down and couldn't make the playoffs. 🤪

Recent performance not changed your mind at all? I went to England Germany at the Euros and it was unbelievable. Every single fan standing for the whole game. Euphoria afterwards felt another level to 3 points.

I think one of world cup quarter finals are on at 3pm GMT same time as our match with Reading.

If England were to playing then, what would you lot be doing (i will be at the Reading game) watching our game on ifollow or watching a world cup quarter final with country at a stand still.

You’re either unbelievably weird or a massive attention seeker.

How the fuck is it weird? I just don’t like or enjoy international football and don’t feel any attachment to it? But if you have a different opinion from sbt it’s weird?

There’s nothing wrong with supporting one over the other or feeling equally attached to both. I adore my club. When we score and win it’s a deep sense of pride and passion that I can’t really describe. Will probably only miss three games this season. Two of them will be if we haven’t gone out and I’m still in Doha. Watching my country play though is just that little bit more special and I do sway towards that way. GSTK & PUSB

City every time. England is a side show which pops up every two years and then disappears again.
Beating MK Dons in the FA cup fairly recently was far more exciting than England in a world cup semi final.

Even if you have no attachment to international football and don’t even watch the games, England winning the WC would mean an almighty piss-up with all your mates, a huge outpouring of national celebration/pride, and quite possibly a day off. Do you honestly think a Carabao Cup first round outdoes that? Even most City ST holders don’t even turn up for them.

We should easily win the group!!
