Very frosty move against the Liverpool-Boston Super Galaxy Globetrotters XI.
Will people want to watch games in empty stadiums long term? Its one thing to put up with it in a pandemic, totally different when its because people aren't interested.Owners of huge football clubs would happily have empty stadiums if they could make enough money from TV revenue ...this is one of the reasons they couldn't give a shit about local supporters and favour the armchair fans , as they are much larger in number for these big clubs .
They can fill them at pence cost as the tv money will be mammoth from an amazonWill people want to watch games in empty stadiums long term? Its one thing to put up with it in a pandemic, totally different when its because people aren't interested.
Sounds good but the leagues will lose viewership if big 6 go. Even worse foe italy and Spain to lose their big clubs as they are already playing catch up
I would love them to get a slap on the face but I cannot see them being kicked out
I can se an outbreak of dug up pitches, arson etc.
So why have they announced it ?Never going to happen the ramifications are too big non starter
You mean there are teams out there somewhere that don't have to do that!American sport has no loyalty whatsoever. They move teams from one city to another without a blink of the eye. It's normal to them .
I just don't see the attraction. The vast majority of games between the 'big six' are incredibly boring.
If you've got a closed league of 15-20 teams then as early as 5 or 6 games into the season teams will know they have no chance of winning the thing, finishing 2nd or lower means nothing and there's no relegation , you'll just end up with stacks of meaningless games. How many viewers will you get, and therefore how valuable will the TV rights be, when the majority of games are essentially meaningless friendlies?

Just my luck to support Coventry.
You will get millions of overseas fans, especially new ones. It's a model aimed at a completely different audience. It will be a sure-fire success.
My concern at simply saying good riddance is that over time more of the EFL clubs will join it so that effectively the prem league gets hived off into the same model. That would surely impact the money and the interest in the pyramid.
I actually fear the worse - we are indeed seeing the start of the end of professional football as a working-class, community-based institution.
As has been said, the legacy fans will give way to a new generation of fans
It's Primarily the American owners who don't understand the concept or value of relegation and promotion. They see their football clubs as franchises like the others in their sporting portfolios.
I honestly throught that American soccer would adopt the European model and introduce relegation and promotion as it keeps things interesting for most fans until close to the end of the season. Nornally as there is always something to fight for.
If USA soccer leagues wish to progress they need to look at their league structure.
As for the Americans in the English game, your in the main billionaires, how dare you be so arrogant as to want to change the fabric of our game. As much as I don't like them what happened to Leicester city is a story that keeps football fans dreaming.
Got any ideas mate?
I wish Leeds would have just walked off when the whistle went. Everybody should refuse to play them.
I get that it doesn't affect us right now but if they get their way of being in the ESL and staying in the domestic league then the Premier is completely devalued. As a football fan you want your team to get to the top and play the best. Imagine getting to the PL and over a quarter of the teams are going through the motions as they clearly aren't going to give a shit about it. Kick them out and let teams that want to win it be in it.
Whole of football willing Leeds on tonight.
I think we crossed that point long ago really once we started welcoming foreign tycoons into the game with open arms without a thought for the consequences.
The proposal is for 20 teams with 12 agreed already. Having seen the reaction of all the clubs except the 12 of condemnation of the league, which other clubs would be prepared to join the league either through invite or qualification? I think they would struggle to fill the remaining places.
The biggest factor in this not happening will be the current players. If the top players refuse to play in it or new players refuse to sign for any of these teams, where will they go then?
