Sadly Eusebio the great Portugese player has just passed away.
He is quite rightly being talked about as an all time great player.I have been fortunate enough to have seen many great players playing against us such as Best,Greaves,Bobby Charlton,a young Gazza, and many more.
Who is the best player fans on here have seen up against the Sky Blues ?

I saw George best marked out of game by Chris Catlin on his debut, sadly I have to say Andy Gray scored a brilliant headed goal against us for the Villa, best player I have ever seen against us John Richards for the goal in the Facup 1/4 final against Wolves where he destroyed Parker in an instance

I remember Bestie getting marked out of the game against us it must have been the Cattlin match.
We always have raised our game against top opposition and top players.

I've been watching a few of his goals today on TV,what needs to be remembered Is the weight of those old balls back In the day,not the Balons of todays gods .

Just heard on SSN that he had scored 736 goals in 745 (or something like that), that is an amazing record, my grandad always said he was the best he had seen.

I remember seeing Eusebio on the night he played at Highfield Road. That was the main reason for going, I've always tried to see as many as possible of the game's true greats of my lifetime. The goal he scored that night in the 1-1 draw with N Ireland was his last ever goal for Portugal.

Best against City ? I remember the early Div One games at Old Trafford, '67. '68 Law, Best and greatest by Bobby Charlton, last of a 0-4, streaked over half way line and crashed past Bill Glazier from 30 yards.
Gosh how old I feel, saw Eusebio 3x, 1966 World Cup, England Semi-Final, and Group game at Goodison. and for Benfica in Man Utd Final at Wembley.
and also saw a crippled Pele at Goodison, played on one leg v Hungary(?).

Eusebio was arguably the best ever European player (although born in Mozembique) A great player in a decade of great lplayers the 60s. Best, Pele, Beckenbuer, Charlton. Cruyff all candigates for best of all time.

Eusebio, Pele, Maradonna. The three greatest fowards ever to put on a pair of boots. What a forward line that would have been.

That is true, but without detracting from him at all, a lot of the clips I've seen, the goalkeeping doesn't seem to be particularly great. A lot of those goals wouldn't be scored now.

Eusebio was a great player mentioned alongside Pele. Every decade brings great players, from Greaves, then Best,to Gazza,to the likes of Rooney and Bale today. Naming a player great is subjective as one fan may say he's overrated whilst another will say he's a genius.I think Beckham was a good player but not exceptional, but that's just my opinion.

I think Beckham was decent , not as good a scholes, and not a patch on Gascoigne.

There have been some top keepers down the years,Banks,Jennings,Shilton,Seaman, and I have to thrown in our own Glazier.
Bill Glazier if he hadn't got injured would have played at a higher level.

Would have been in the 1966 World Cup winning squad. He had just played 5 under 23 games on the trot and not conceded a goal. His absence let Rn Springet back into the England set up Very unlucky for Glazier

Beckham didn't have a left foot, couldn't head and shit it in the tackle. The best two things he had was his looks and a good marketing plan. I am 40 and one of the best players I have seen in my time (apart from the recent ones like Messi and Ronaldo) was Zidane. Right and left foot, could head, good competitor (if not a little hot HEADED at times) and the way he glided across a pitch with such touch and control was effortless.

The two best players or should I say performances I've seen against us were from Charlie Cooke for Chelsea, and Ian Storey Moore for Forest back in the 70's.and a very young Gazza tearing us apart playing for Newcastle alongside Beardsley etc.
