Motherwell also had a player less on the bench than Celtic.

Jacob Murphy starting for Newcastle in the PL yesterday.

He's barely played all season, and when he has rarely been used off the bench a few games ago, he cost them the game.

He's made two starts in the last two games, and been subbed off in each, as Newcastle were losing. The fans are not happy with him, particularly as he cost them 12.5 million.

At least he's at that level, for now at least.
Armstrong, who most rated higher than Murphy, isn't setting the world alight at Bolton.
He was subbed on Sat (OK he may have been injured) and his replacement scored.

It all goes to show that young players develop at different rates (or not at all) and it's difficult to consistently spot winners

If you're going to try and catch me out, you'll need to do better than that. I suggest perhaps less lazy research next time!
Saturday was only his second start since moving there and most of the comments, including in the forum match thread where you've picked the only quote that could be considered in anyway negative, have been positive. Somehow you've equated that to him being at fault for their poor run and ready to write him off.

Yes, and if you read into it properly you would know he only started due to injuries. Most of their fans want him no where near the first team. The game at the weekend by all accounts was the only one where he didn't look quite as bad as the car crash he has for the entirety of the season so far.

I'm not completely writing him off, but I would be very surprised if he makes a long term positive impact there. I say this because I know what he was like here, so do the Norwich fans, and so do most of the Newcastle fans already. You've tried to make it look like he's pulling up trees there, and it has hopelessly backfired.

I really liked him when he was here. Good to watch, an exciting player. The managers at Norwich obviously thought so too as they kept playing him in the Championship. Benitez obviously rates him as at 12 million he didn't come cheap. He is making starts for a PL team, something a lot of young English players find very hard to do. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and you obviously didn't rate him. However it does seem that you are really looking for negatives in what for him is a very positive story.

Of course, I have always believed he was a burden here more than anything. I also know for the most part he was overrated at Norwich. I respect your opinion differs from that.

It's like when he was here, the people that loved him would frequently be quiet for 10 game spells when did nothing, but then very vocally spoke up on the 11th game when he finally did something. Same here, rotting in the Newcastle reserves for 5 months, but gets a start due to injuries and all of a sudden he's a world beater.

If he's the future of the England football team, I honestly believe we are in a lot of trouble. Price tags aren't everything. I know some people think otherwise, so I'll respectfully leave it that that for now.

You aren't the bloke who, at the end of one of our games when he was with us, raced down to the front of the stand when he was talking to some kids, got his attention, and screamed in his face "you're the worst f**king player we've ever had Murphy, f**k off!" leaving him embarrassed and gutted, are you???

worth noting that newcastle didnt strengthen much so are basically a championship team in prem currently with a v good manager. despite a good start you would imagine they will be lower mid table-relegation fight this season. for a young player like murphy this will more likely be a season of learning rather than success individually or teamwise

No, absolutely not.

Whilst I really disliked him, I find the concept of booing or shouting abuse at our own players a completely ridiculous concept.

A Best and Nazon front line would work hard maybe they will take Beavon instead now

We can only frickin' hope! But unfortunately I don't think any pro or semi-pro team, let alone a club higher than us, is going to want to take over the 18 month-remaining contract of a short-arse 33-year old striker who hasn't scored in 23 games.

His playing career is over, his next job will be as a striker coach, in the same ilk as Kevin Phillips

Are you sure? Phillips was an extremely prolific striker who scored goals and knew how to score them, as evidenced by 250 career goals mostly scored in the top 2 divisions of English football. Which club is going to employ Beavon in the same role? He's scored just 64 senior goals by the age of 33 and hasn't scored for us since March.

I was taking the piss with the last bit, but I do think his playing career could be over pretty soon, unless by some sort of Christmas miracle he comes good

Gunnar has turned down a new contract with Cardiff, he is looking for a move abroad even if Cardiff get promoted to the premier league

Former loan man Gary Madine scored 2 vital goals for Bolton in a 3-1 over former no2's Jamie Clapham's Barnsley which Adam Armstrong featured as a second half sub.

Marvin Sordell, Ben Turner and Stephen Bywater went down 1-0 at Derby County

Leon Clarke and John Fleck had a bad day at the New Den going down 3-1

In the FA Cup second round....
Richard Duffy and Jon Stead helped fire Notts County to a 3-2 win

Another Romain Vincelot header sent Bradford on there way to a 3-1 home win against Plymouth

Reice Charles-Cook sat out Swindon's 5-2 defeat at Stevenage

In the SPL....
Adam Barton's own goal was enough for Hibernian to beat Jordan Turnbull's Partick Thistle.

Andy Rose played in Motherwell's 5-1 defeat at Celtic. Gael Bigirimana was a unused sub

National league...
Kwame Thomas helped Solihull moors to a 1-0 win over free falling Leyton Orient

Chris Dunn kept Maidenhead out for Wrexham to win 2-0

Down the pyramid...
Jack Finch played in Banbury Utd's 2-2 draw

Marcus Tudgay was unable to prevent South Normanton losing 2-1

perhaps time to get Duffy back :)
You joke....but our decline from the Championship to our current status began around the time we stopped re-loaning Duffy into the team. Maybe it's time to bring him back again.

Maybe he'll reach when what not to do.
