I think Oggy was making the point that he wouldn’t have done it had they loss.
And about 2 minutes after he dived to waste time.

Is he any more special than another ex-academy player?

Would Cyrus Christie get that? George Thomas who arguably played a bigger part in out recent history?

Maddison can't really win with some people. He is a professional footballer playing for Spurs and did what he had to do to help them win. He also clearly wanted to show some respect to us on his first visit back since leaving. I really don't get the need to hate him for it!
Respect isn't putting a shirt on and doing your own lap of honour.

That's ego.

That's your take on it. A take I find a bit weird! You have chosen to interpret it as a lap of honour, whereas most normal people would view it as a way of showing his appreciation for the start we gave him, and to the City where he is from.

A lack of respect would have been taunting us & sticking it to us.

Fucking embarrassing.
No doubt lapped up by the same grinning idiots who sing the Doug King song.
See that fucking Gus David Brent was,at the game as,well.
It's like a fucking circus

Our fans are fucking weird sometimes. People were loving it when Mcfadzean came over to us at the Blackburn game last season, a player who had 5 other clubs before us. Yet for some reason showing some appreciation for a player who came through our academy and has gone on to be a top PL player and represent England is too much.

If you don't like it you don't have to stay or clap him. The second we got this draw he was posting about being excited to come back and you could see how up for it he was. Not sure why that winds people up so much.

His quick flick pass for their first was brilliant. Really don’t see why some hate him…Cov lad that’s been massively successful and is showing respect to us after a game.

Yes I applauded that pass instantly when he did it & was willing the ball to go in purely because it was done by Maddison

I don’t really like Maddison but I think what he did tonight was fine. It’s like others had said if he’d done nothing he’d have been called an arrogant prick so there is no winning.

Think some people forget that we were still dining off the Maddison sale as late as a few years ago. His sale to Leicester, the bonuses we got for him making an England cap etc. and his sale to Spurs have all played a part in funding where we are now.

Nipped down to the bog and when I came back half of the stand were standing and clapping. Thought I’d missed a goal and then some bloke said Maddison had came on! What an embarrassment.
Surprised I didn’t see them on the way out washing his motor in the car park.

I really don't think some people would give a shit if he did nothing after the game tbh

Let’s give Sisu a standing ovation then for making the sale.

Same as some fans Eccles blindness. I’d have thought hometown lads who love the club would get extra support….nope, they get the opposite from some. Strange

i don’t get why it’s embarrassing, who cares what he does.

in fact there’s this trend where loads of things are now ‘embarrassing’ in modern football culture- wearing shirts, singing certain songs, singing too much so ‘it’s like your cup final’ kissing the badge, the list goes on. The bar is set pretty low for what is “embarrassing” these days.

Tbf people only started to clap because some idiots were booing.

I don't think it's comparable to McFadzean, who was club captain and left the club without a farewell and played us 3 months after.

McFadzean also played 155 matches, Maddison played less than 1800 minutes for the 1st team (incidentally, that's less than Todd Kane).

I'm not an advocate for booing a player just for leaving in an ordinary fashion, like Maddison did, but I don't understand the sycophancy around his 'return'.

Nonsense. Our best academy product in a generation on his first game back in his home town. The people who still hold a grudge about him being too good for us are the embarrassment TBH.
I don't hold a grudge for him leaving, he is and was far too good for us.

What I don't rate is him posing in a cov shirt, for some sycophantic love in when his team have just shithoused a victory.

He wouldn't have done it if they lost, he wouldn't have done it if he still played for Leicester.

It is just bollocks, a complete circle jerk for an ego trip

I think he would in both cases TBH. But if he wants to applaud the fans and swap shirts for the first and probably only time he’ll play against us then I don’t see the issue. He’s always been complimentary about the club. He earned us some good money. And let’s be honest he wasn’t the only part of that Mowbray side that fell apart after New Year.

Shall we give Sisu a standing ovation then on that basis? 🤔
