I haven’t done a poll for bloody ages so thought I’d kick off.....I know you’ve all missed them.

So....a quarter of the season has gone and we’ve made a slow but improving start. Clearly only a couple of stand-out teams so far and a tight mid-table battle is likely to develop with up to ten teams or more with play-off hopes.

Think we’ll finish between 12th & 16th so said mid table. Not happy with that obviously. Want us to win the league!

From what we have seen from the top teams so far Portsmouth, Charlton, Sunderland and Barnsley, we are just as good if not better imo.

It’s going to be all about beating the teams lower half of the table like Wycombe/Rochdale/Bristol Rovers etc. Which will determine where we finish.

I feel it’s slowly but surely coming together especially upfront. Squad is very strong indeed. One slight area of concern going forward is centre back a couple of injury’s and/or suspension away from real concern.

If we finish 3rd (i.e. top 3 all the way) then that would still only put us in the play offs, so really, it should have said top 2 all the way. Apologies Tommo for pointing that out, it's the rubbish weather outside making me feel pedantic.

We have to think in terms of playoffs being a real opportunity, surely. Only 5 teams have conceded fewer goals than us, and I'm optimistic that we have players here who can score goals despite our meagre total so far. If we can stay lucky with injuries and suspensions, I see this season playing out very similar to last season.

I think we could just get into the playoffs and then anything could happen.

Another day out at Wembley would be nice.

On leaving Wembley last season I actually said to one of stewards see next season .

Fingers crossed for this season.

Form is improving. A pattern similar to last season. I am optimistic.

I would argue that we have 3 centre backs who are at the top of this level - and is in fact our strongest position
Any 2 from 3 and whoever misses out is unlucky

Agree with this totally. As long as we have decent midfield cover (which is why I agree with the points about needing Kelly/Ogogo up to speed) we are becoming difficult to create against. If the forwards start clicking, we should do well. That said, you just know that if the forwards start scoring, the defence will suddenly go AWOL !!!

I always think back to the fact we effectively only scraped out of league 2. Im encouraged by our start but for me, the goal always has been don’t get relegated and push on next season

For me we’re on track to where we should be, the back 5 are looking relatively solid in comparison to what we’ve seen in others and have a understanding of each other. Midfield needs minor fine tuning and consistency with the strikers too being slightly more clinical with chances. I’d like more movement too throughout the side.

Only a handful of games so far could you say we were never in and gave some sides a real go so in that respect we have to be happy.

The new players have not quite hit the heights we’d like but we can see the flashes of what they could bring.

Stand out players for me so far are Burge, Willis and Davies, I’d like more from Sterling, Thomas and Bayliss but all three are young and adjusting or playing men’s football for the first time.

Doyle is the problem, nothing personal, just that his age must count against him, and neither Kelly or Ogogo have stood up to be counted in terms of skill or leadership. Given the fanfare over Ogogo when we finally managed to persuade him to join, that is a particular disappointment.
We need to keep in touch with 6th place, and hope we can sneak in at the death. It will be a case of going up a couple of places and then down one, week by week. Southend and Donny in the next 3 weeks are very important. A point at Southend would be very handy

I voted for mid table. Wouldn’t be happy with this as it says but I think it’s a good start back in league 1. It’s also something to build on where as if you scra relegation you are likely to be there next season.

I think we are making progress and if MR and the coaching team can match the improvement in performances during the season that they did last year, then we have a chance. Even if we miss out on promotion this year - a top half finish shows progress and a good platform for a big push in 19-20 season.
