Expectations? (1 Viewer)

Ok, let's be honest; has this season exceeded, met, or fallen short of your L2 expectations?

Considering how crushing and bleak last season was, I'm pretty satisfied by thus season thus far - we've shown glimpses of a good side, battled when necessary and pulled some decent results off.

So, realistically, the team have exceeded my expectations hitherto.

I know, 'hitherto'...

Currently Met my expectations. I expected to be in the top 7.

Going forward, would be happy to be in a consolidated position in the play off positions come Easter. ie in 4th/5th or 6th place.....a few points clear of 8th place. So we can relax and then possibly build a head of steam and have a crack at the Autos if they in touching distance.

Luton/Notts County/Mansfield - will get automatic places. Luton will cakewalk it.

I wouldn't fear playing Accrington/Wycombe/Swindon/Exeter/Lincoln/ Home or away in play offs.

Expectations have been slightly reset though since Jones Uncertainty. but I would take that right now.

Met - we we're never going to be a team that walked away with the league and stayed top all season (its not our style!)

I think we just need another strong spell of about 6/7 games where we can pickup 5 wins or so and we will be back in contention for autos.

considering we've only won 2 of last 8 and we're still right in the mix is a positive.

Met.

I didn't expect us to blow the league away and to be in the top 7 is a good place to build from. I still think anything but promotion is a failure but we need time to get to grips with the league and I think we're about on target for mid/end November.

* Home and Away in play offs. It is a lottery but I would back to us to beat those teams.

Actually won 3 of last 8 in league.

Slightly below my expectation. I thought at this stage we would be sitting 3rd. Close, but those shit loses to poorer teams has me frustrated. Although I'm happily frustrated as I think we are in a handy position. Hope it continues to season end and we finish strong to gain that auto promotion spot. We all know that with City things don't always go to plan. January transfer window will be interesting.

I think we'll be safe come next May. Possibly even at the start of April. I truly believe we can make this division 'our own' for a very, very long time to come.

A bit disappointing but lets see what happens over Jan Xfer window.

Fallen short for me.

Quite happy in many ways, but no way would I have believed that we would have lost a third of our games after 19 matches in.

I've said before, if we want automatic promotion the most games we can afford to lose is around 12. We have lost half of that and it's still not half way through the season.

That needs to change. Defeats into draws and more draws into wins.

We're around where I'd imagined is to be currently, never had us down for the autos as I feel other sides are stronger and better equipped despite MR claims were the best in the league.

Hopefully we continue and improve upon our current points return to cement our place in to top 7 come the business end of the season when it really counts.

For me the importance is staying in touch till march and kicking on into the final games. The final 10 games are key to completing the season

12th with Jones being sold, Nazon moving on in January. Injuries starting to show now and same old tactics. Stuck in league 2 for the foreseeable future.
I was going to give you a like, but didn't feel it was appropriate given the subject! Just got a horrible feeling that we won't ultimately improve on our current position and we'll miss out on the play-offs. Andreu and Jones are huge losses. Can only hope that some of the development players break through and/or MR picks up a gem or two in the January sales. Need to maintain place in play-offs in the meantime.

I expected us to take time to adjust then pick up steam, if anything the opposite seems to be happening. We’ve been unlucky with injuries though and I’d like to see us back to full strength one way or another post Jan.

Unfortunately the playoffs are a lottery. We have to aim for top 3 and only be happy with promotion. That of course only being guaranteed if we secure a top 3 place.

This is Coventry City and we are known for our banana skin slip ups and not turning up in some big games. I would be very worried if we made top 7, but not top 3. Could easily see us being knocked out of the playoffs and another Forest Green or Newport scenario manifesting itself.

Totally agree on what we should be looking to achieve. However I feel there are possibly 3 better sides in the league on current squads.

That can all change come January.... for the 3 stronger sides I mean when the bigger clubs come knocking on the door for there stand out performers. Carlise had the wind taken out there sails last winter when Bradford poached Charlie Wyke.

To quote a former man, let's see where we are...

We all know Play offs can be a lottery in the final at Wembley. Its not a lottery in the semi finals over 2 legs. No grumbles from me if we lose over two legs.

Usually the team on form at the run in usually gets the final promotion place. Ala Barnsley 2 years ago , and Blackpool last year in league two sneaked in through back door. So it usually gos to Form at the time.So its not a lottery.

We so far this season have not looked like at all an Automatic promotion place team. We havnt been in top 3 since first two games of season.

We are at our level 6th. and have played at that level all season. With a possible massive irreplaceable blow which is Jodi Jones. id take play offs. And a big pay day that gos with it.

I'd take the playoffs now. It's a lottery yes but lets get into the top 6-7 and take the gamble. We haven't finished that high in 50 odd years is it now?

Be quite typical wouldn't it, our highest placed finish for years and still und up in failure.

I'd love another day at Wembley

I wouldn't say we have either exceeded, met or failed to meet my expectations.
Mainly because I did not have any expectations.
I wouldn't have been that surprised if we were currently top or bottom.
At the moment, we are a better than average team in Division 4, but that could all change in January
For a city of our size, we should have at least a Championship side.

Yes it would be typical of us. If it was a Swindon away or Notts County away though it would be a great occasion with the numbers we'd take to the semis.

We are doing ok. Our best form needs to come after Easter. We also need some luck with injuries. I also feel some players have more to offer yet, I wouldnt give up on McNulty, Biamou or Beavon yet. Also Shipley, Haynes and Burge still have development potential.

It would be nice to make a key signing in January, striker central mid or winger? Any could make a difference although might not be essential. Full potential not realised yet which is a good thing.

met, I thought 8th, but did not see Newport or forest green coming
That's the annoying part. If you are well beaten you sometimes just have to put up your hands and admit you were second best, but to lose games to absolute goalkeeping howlers is just so irritating.

Here we are 6 points behind the automatic places and there's at least 4 points thrown away right there.

However I genuinely feel that with the right striker we could cement third spot.

expected a better start to be honest. 6 defeats at this stage is quite a lot considering we don't concede many at all. Would be nice to go on some sort of winning run.

Well yep, exactly. With the fantastic defence we have (and it clearly is, you only have to look at the goals against column) you have to scratch your head and wonder how we have lost 6 games already.

100% where I expected us to be.

That said I didn't expect Forest Green, Acrington and on the other side, Luton or Notts County

In between met and below tbh - expected us to be in auromatic spots at end of season we will see if we finishe in play offs it will be below my expectations but if they get up via play offs same overall goal achieved and another day at Wembley....would rather we got up automatically!

Bittersweet for me atm, feel slightly miffed that most of our strikers are firing blanks which is costing us games but also the rest of the team isnt really contributing that much in terms of goals but if we keep ticking along until the Jan sales and IF we can rectify things and strengthen for an auto I will be well satisfied

Well the objective is obviously promotion. That was our aim pre-season, so you have to assume that the club and Mark Robins believe we haven't met expectation yet.

Looking at some the games we lost, we clearly shouldn't have lost them. Horrendous goalkeeping errors have gifted the opposition all 3 points.

Without those errors we would in all likelihood be in the top 3. Therefore we have underperformed. We then therefore really should be in the automatic places.

We haven't been creating enough chances and our strikers haven't been scoring nearly enough goals. That IS rectifiable though. Bring in an attacking right sided midfielder for the right to complement Jones on the left (assuming Jones isn't out any great length of time) and that problem should be nullified,at least to a degree.

I think the expectation of the club is promotion and that too obviously is the aim. Robins says we are the best team in this league and though I might not quite buy that, I do believe that we are in the top 3 and honestly believe we are just one minor tweaks away from absolutely flying in this division.
