I don't enjoy it as much as I used to. Latest TV coverage has ruined it for me. I preferred it when BBC had it. They covered all the races, with Murray Walker as commentator. I still watch it if it's on but with subdued interest.

I Have nothing against the TV coverage as I have sky sports and I quite enjoy the commentators but I can see people being annoyed with the every other race being shown on channel 4 part if they don’t want to pay for sky sports

I refuse to contribute to Sky in any way I can. I pay a TV licence fee and subscribe to Netflix. Sky charge way too much for what they offer. Great if you can afford it, but I can't and don't.

Of course I don't want anyone to get hurt, but let's face reality - the bits that get put in the newsreels and people want to see are the crashes - they're the exciting bits. Why so many people turn in for the opening lap or so then switch off, or just have it on in the background.

Will always hope that Lewis wins. I'd love him to exceed Schumacher's number of drivers championships, but I think he's going to have a tough season this year with the Ferrari's looking strong in testing.
Always watch the races. Hope Danny Ric's move to Renault works out. Would love Verstappen's RB to have constant engine issues so he can fall out with the team every week.
Kimi will be held back by Ferrari overruling any threat from Alfa via shady team orders I reckon.

TBH I wouldn't really mind if someone else won it this year - it's got too predictable. Last two years Hamilton managed to get inside Vettel's head and that won him the title but from testing so far the car may just be enough to negate that mental edge.
Would love to see Ric win a title but that's not going to happen. Verstappen will win one eventually - he's just got that mentality - but it's far more enjoyable watching him get frustrated. Think he drives dangerously at times too.
Alfa will most definitely get overruled by Ferrari (if it's even necessary) and if Alfa are anything like the road cars they'll be incredibly unreliable.

As I understand, Channel 4 doesn't even have that now. Except for the British Grand Prix I think, they can only do highlights now. And they weren't even going to get that, it was a late season concessions by someone, somewhere last year.
I've nothing against Sky's coverage. I've had it since it started and I've always thought Martin Brundle to be the best of the current crop (I wish he could still be alongside Murray or James Allen though, Crofty can get a bit tedious at times!) but this current TV deal is a load of bull, and it can't do any good at a time when the sport needs to grown it's fan base rather than alienate large numbers. How is that going to help long term?

I feel like following F1 is a bit like being a Cov fan. I'm always dead excited before the season but it normally ends up being pretty underwhelming on the whole.
The complete lack of free-to-air races is insanity. It's exactly what cricket did and eventually realised what a shit idea it was as interest and fan numbers declined, and now it's on the BBC from next year. The reason I got into F1 was because my Dad would stick it on after lunch on a Sunday and I got hooked

Talking of tv coverage, anyone watching/watched the new documentary on Netflix btw? I've just finished episode 4 and really enjoying it so far, great look behind the scenes and just the kind of thing needed now Sky has all the races. I know you have to pay for Netflix but most people use someone else's account, me included lol

It's a ludicrous deal. Like I said earlier on the thread I've had Sky's package since it began, but there's no denying it's likely to do harm long term.
It was similar for me getting into it. Used to catch it with my Grandad during Sunday dinner, an on and off thing, just a passing interest really.. Then one day in 2001 I sat down and saw the Belgian GP was on ITV. Not much else on so I thought I'd watch it. First thing I saw was Luciano Burti spearing off into the barrier at Blanchimont at about 180 mph. Really thought he was a gonner. The rest of the race was dull, Schumi was so far ahead they only showed him again when he won the thing. But the sense of speed, the scream of the V10 engine as it was then, I was hooked.

So it appears Ferrari weren’t sandbagging the previous 2 days. Chuffed for Bottas to get a win in early, he needed that.

Has to be said, that new fastest lap point will lead to some very interesting late race battles through the season.
Bottas drove like someone with a point to prove, and prove his point he did. Don't know about Ferrari. Was it just a specific problem for this circuit? Were Mercedes Reay sandbagging throughout testing? Where did Hamilton's pace go to on those medium tyres? Think we got more questions than answers from this race!
At least we didn't have the ridiculous VSC situation this year.

What rotten luck for Leclerc. Am the only one who thinks if Ferrari let him, he could win them their next championship before Vettel? Vettel's head goes the minute he's put under pressure.

Anyone see Mick Schumacher test driving the Ferrari over social media? Only a few pictures floating around but boy, the similarities to his father, especially with the retro-style livery they've got this season.
I wonder if he gets top 3 in F2 this season they've move him to the big leagues in 2020? Maybe as 2nd driver at Alfa?
Speaking of young drivers, nice to see 2 young British drivers on the grid this season. Bahrain was a fantastic race. I'm fully on the Leclerc hype train.

Don't know what's happened to this Ferrari pace from pre-season. They seem to boot it out of the box in practice, then lose it all in qualifying. And by the race they don't seem to have any answer at all.

Not sure they've done much wrong mechanically, man-management and tyre-management questionable.
I just think Mercedes have the best package (car, team and drivers) maybe ever?

In my opinion, it would have been criminal to give a penalty for that. The sport NEEDS this kind of on track action badly. Its had far too many dull processions this season.
