With all the speculation about Bottas, Perez hasn't really progressed through the season. Started OK, but hasn't got any closer to Verstappen and, if anything, seems to have gone backwards a bit. Was slightly surprised they renewed him tbh, guess the new regs went in his favour as he's pretty experienced so could be useful in developing a brand new car.

That's why they can't take any risks, especially this circuit. Otherwise you end up with the kind of situation they had here in 1998 with cars all ploughing into each other because they can't see or stop even if they can.

So would Perez be 4 laps behind if he started?I'm a bit confused how they're letting Perez into the race. I always assumed if you didn't make it back to garage on the recon lap and the race starts, which it technically has because we have 43 laps and not 44, that was it and you were out.
Then again, this is a highly unprecedented situation. So, who really knows.....
Edit: and now we're looking at 39 laps, and not the 43 which all the timing screens show. Shall we call it a draw and go home!?

It's the technicality of chalking a lap off each time the start was delayed... which they did four times.I can't see how they've got 39 laps.

Yeah they don't make it easy.So now they've suspended the three hour event clock, which has an hour left. The 2 hour race clock hasn't started.
