Just watched it on YouTube, atmosphere sounded amazing Arsenal in the West End & Liverpool on the Kop, Highfield Road looked great & very much a worthy venue for such a game.I remember it. Just looked it up. May 01st 1980.
Not bad for a so called tinpot club.
I went with a mate, bought a couple of tickets outside the ground and stood on terracing in front of sky blue stand. I think there was just under 40,000 there.Just watched it on YouTube, atmosphere sounded amazing Arsenal in the West End & Liverpool on the Kop, Highfield Road looked great & very much a worthy venue for such a game.
Shudder to think that only a year later they made it all seater, reduced the capacity by about 15,000 and completely ruined it.
That is the only area of Highfield Rd that I never watched a match from, nearest I got was the occasional last 5 - 10mins when leaving the seats above.I went with a mate, bought a couple of tickets outside the ground and stood on terracing in front of sky blue stand. I would love thatHope we can finally beat Sheff Wed and get a home tie vs Maidstone in the next round.
Tickets were less of a problem then as it was standing and pay on the get at least up to the 5th round. Only 6th round I remember was SWFC away. Might be the only time we got there in my lifetime.Totally agree, but it left very little time for anyone to plan it and ultimately I think the influence of the police stopped it as they couldn’t get organised in time. Ticketing and logistics was always a problem (especially if the replay was away from home) but we seemed to manage somehow. And it did make rematches very tasty!
As an aside, we’re probably only a few seasons away from the end of all replays in the cup competitions, the wind is definitely blowing in that direction.
They'd be great TV coverage, possible full house and a chance to get to the 6th roundHope we can finally beat Sheff Wed and get a home tie vs Maidstone in the next round.
I watched a few games from sky blue stand terracing and could be a pain as I seem to remember the sun went over the main stand. I had a season ticket in every other stand in the ground over the years. That is the only area of Highfield Rd that I never watched a match from, nearest I got was the occasional last 5 - 10mins when leaving the seats above.
I honestly think that Q/F loss to Sheffield Utd hurt me more than any other loss in my near 50 years following City, still rankles when I think about itThe 1998 cup run was great fun - sat in the Holte End for the famous win at Villa!
Still grates that we ended up losing to the Sheff Utd - watched the replay of that via a live screening in the East Stand!
That missed header from Moldavan, the corner for their goal that never was, I still feel like that. A semi v a shit Newcastle at Wembley beckonedI honestly think that Q/F loss to Sheffield Utd hurt me more than any other loss in my near 50 years following City, still rankles when I think about it
The semi was at Old Trafford (still the days of neutral ground semi finals ) which would have been even better. That missed header from Moldavan, the corner for their goal that never was, I still feel like that. A semi v a shit Newcastle at Wembley beckoned
I was at that game don't know how Moldovan missed that header., and yes the circumstances that led to the corner, ball bobbling of the right backs shin etc. That missed header from Moldavan, the corner for their goal that never was, I still feel like that. I must have been just ahead of you! A chap came past with a clicker thing counting people. He went a few people past me and stopped.Queued for 9 hrs for the Cup game up at Everton. Got to the front of the queue only to be told the tickets have now sold out.
Yes I was in the upper tier, it was harder to get it over the bar than in the netI was at that game don't know how Moldovan missed that header., and yes the circumstances that led to the corner, ball bobbling of the right backs shin etc.
Roland Nilsson, hit his shin ,even then Whelan who was poor that game somehow let the corner hit his back and they score . The rest is history.I was at that game don't know how Moldovan missed that header., and yes the circumstances that led to the corner, ball bobbling of the right backs shin etc.
I was there with you in the east stand. Live screening but just on the tv monitorsThe 1998 cup run was great fun - sat in the Holte End for the famous win at Villa!

My brother and cousin were at the live screening too. In fact my brother was talking about celebrating in style ,went to the loo came back and found out it was 1-1.I was there with you in the east stand. Live screening but just on the tv monitors
I took my lad and his mate and we never uttered a word all the way home , we were so guttedI honestly think that Q/F loss to Sheffield Utd hurt me more than any other loss in my near 50 years following City, still rankles when I think about it
I agree that was hard to take and should never had happened. We were a very good team at the time. Sickening equaliser but should have done a whole lot better in match at Highfield road.I took my lad and his mate and we never uttered a word all the way home , we were so gutted
Be careful what you wish for.Hope we can finally beat Sheff Wed and get a home tie vs Maidstone in the next round.
Alright in the West ham SF thoughI watched a few games from sky blue stand terracing and could be a pain as I seem to remember the sun went over the main stand. I had a season ticket in every other stand in the ground over the years.
Went to that and got a ticket for the Kop where the Liverpool fans were I witnessed hundreds of scousers just sitting opposite the turnstiles obviously without tickets and the police opened up the gates rather than having them roaming the streets and they piled in, a regular occurrence at their many big games, a number of years later we all know what happened at Hillsborough, which to this day they deny.I remember it. Just looked it up. May 01st 1980.

What do they deny?Went to that and got a ticket for the Kop where the Liverpool fans were I witnessed hundreds of scousers just sitting opposite the turnstiles obviously without tickets and the police opened up the gates rather than having them roaming the streets and they piled in, a regular occurrence at their many big games, a number of years later we all know what happened at Hillsborough, which to this day they deny.
Why not? We’ve had just about every other Saturday home game changedQuarter finals and semi finals are both on dates we have rare Saturday 3pm home games scheduled. Going to have to move those games to midweek on our way to Wembley
Feck I remember that, I was in Delhi, ,thought it was in the bag had a few beers and then. My cousin who went to the game was so gutted ,he went straight to bed after the match lolAgree with the above - I remember the 2-3 FA Cup defeat with Charlton (after being 2-0 up) completely knocked the stuffing out of us and we barely won a game for the rest of the season. And the we all know what happened the season after that.
Brian Talbot heading the winning goal in front of Talbot advertising hoarding on the West Stand.I remember it. Just looked it up. May 01st 1980.

Has a rethink, all games are midweek, so any away game midweek apart from Villa is S#xt !!!FA Cup round 5 draw
Dangerous to "count our chickens" before reply result.
