And what size is that ? How many times have Norwich, Southampton, Birmingham or Stoke been this far in comparison ?

As fans we like to big ourselves up. But we weren't that good or that big. We struggled for decades in the top flight, breaking into the top 10 once, I think. Says something that we go out in the 3rd Round against non-league opposition more times than I'd like. Success in the past couple of seasons isn't a reflection of where we were, pre SiSu.

Plus, on the entertainment side, getting this far makes it more enjoyable for the fanbase, achieving something we haven't conquered that frequently.

Oh and we finished top 10 in the top flight 7 times (I think).

Drogba was an absolute beast that day (he was most days tbf). He bullied the both of them

I also recall watching Lampard and Ballack be a million miles in front of Doyle and Gunarsson. Both were getting on but their speed of thought was on another level.

We just couldn’t get near Drogba. Always thought we were a bit unlucky with that. They’d just sacked Scolari and bought Hiddink on. Part of me always thought had Scolari been there we might have been more competitive

The draw is working out nicely this season and there could well be a championship club who makes it to Wembley, no reason why it can't be us!
Money, prestige and a great day out with no expectations sounds amazing.

In 140 years we've only ever reached this far on 7 occasions. That seems really low for a club of this size especially when you consider you only need 3 wins to get there if you are playing in the top two leagues.

Can anybody on here lay claim to having attended all of the last 6 of these (the first one was 1909/10!)?

We won't get a much better chance than this season of making it 8.

We also had nearly 50 seasons not finishing in the top 6. What other club could beat us at that?

Yeah, pretty much this. We’ve never been a big club. Never won a Division 1 title or PL title and except for 87 we’ve never really been a competitive team nor capable of coming close to winning anything of note.

I think the fact Coventry is a large city makes people think we’re bigger than we actually are as a club when we’re not.

It crazy, especially when you look at a club like West Brom who have played in 10 FA Cup finals.

I suppose over our history, we only became a major club in the mid 60’s, contrasting with West Brom who had won the FA Cup 3 times by 1931, having won the league twice in 1920 and 21. Other clubs have similar heritages, the North West giants of the first half of the 20th Century come to mind, and Wolves, Villa etc. etc. So 7 in say 60 years is probably not so bad, although I agree that the way we’ve approached some cup campaigns over the past few years has been disappointing, and we could/should have been better.

Our chance of becoming a major club disappeared when Hill resigned it really dropped us in the shit, he bought no players in the summer and his resignation sent us into the big league rudder less.
How we stopped up and went on to have 34 consecutive seasons in the top flight is a bloody miracle.

From memory... after the Man U game, our performances away from home were superb (Liverpool, Bolton, Villa, Southampton, Palace). Just couldn't finish... Sadly Dave Holdsworth could!

We lost one game from Christmas until the end of the season. Really! One game!!
