Yep, 3-0 , lunchtime kickoff and the 2nd Half threatened by fog. And it followed the 5-1 trouncing of Liverpool the previous week. What a Christmas that was (we won't mention the 5-0 defeat to Man Ure a few dayas later)
Think it was mine too....Great memories...One of my first games was back in the 1977/8 season when my dad took me and my brother to a Christmas game... I think we beat Norwich City 5-4, and Highfield Road was bouncing! I was only 6 - happy days
I was at that game when the HUD got his debut hat-trick against Halifax. And strangely I saw George Kirby and Graham Newton also score debut hat-tricks for us too. We had real strikers back then !My first 3 games - is that cheating? All 1963; v Sunderland with Sunderland supporting Grandad, 5th round FA Cup, won 2-1; v Man U 6th round FA Cup, lost 3-1; v Halifax Town, won 5-4, a debut hat-trick for George Hudson, I think? Hooked for ever? You bet!!!
it was a very good game, going toe to toe with a very good Spurs side. You can see the highlights on you tube.Mine was at home to Spurs, I thought the score was 0-0 but I remember seeing Neil Martin split his shorts mid match and changing them on the pitch (not a pleasant memory) so it was 6th December 1969 and I went on my own, I was only 12, caught the bus there and back, wouldn't even dream of letting my kids go at 12 nowadays, not that they are 12 anymore...Ohh we won 3-2 so not sure why I didn't remember that, mind you I can't remember last week never mind 48 years ago

I had a season ticket in the west stand row D seat 21 and as a nine year old I used to get the 26 bus from Henley Green on my own, buy a program and a orange squash and a mars bar.
Those were the days my friend, I thought they'd never end.....
That was some punch up that day. It was on Match Of The Day !West Ham at home August 24 1968 lost 2-1.First away game Wolves October 30 1971 1-1 there was a riot on the pitch before the game.

It just needs a sky blue and white rattle on top now !Identical to the wooden stool I had to stand on in the "West End" when a boy..... Memories.
Think they were all headers too? Wednesday played in a god awful kit that day.January 1989. Won 5-0 vs Sheff Weds. Speedo hat-trick
Identical to a woman who used to live up the road...ahh mammaries

vs ManU December '79
Went with a mate from school and was right at the back of the East Stand (IIRC)
My overwhelming memory was being 2 short to see anything and a bunch of ManU fans seeming appearing from nowhere when they scored which caused a bit of a kerfuffle
I was hooked though...
I will look out for the magazine, thanks.Late Tackle football magazine. Its out every six weeks, sold in newsagents. And just started writing for an online football site : D3D4 Football. I'm the Cov City correspondent writing articles etc on games and anything to do with the club. They want more writers, so if you fancy it go to their website ?
They probably all had CV postcodes...I remember going to a game vs them in the mid 90s and the East Stand being full of them. No idea how they got away with it.

During the late 70s you had to collect vouchers from previous games to get in to the Man Utd game and there were plenty of extra "home" fans in the West End for these games and of course the Man Utd game. I worked with a Man Utd season ticket holder in the late 80's and they always seem to have ways of getting tickets for home areas and once in the ground the stewards did nothing about it. I am sure a law was brought in to stop ticket touts seliing tickets outside grounds but that never stopped them eitherI remember going to a game vs them in the mid 90s and the East Stand being full of them. My son said to me : " why do I dislike Manchester United so much ? " It goes back to the 70's when we used to play them regularly. The West End got taken over by their fans, but in amongst them were so called Cov fans wearing red and white scarves. They got called traitors etc and were told to keep away in future, which they did of course. I remember one match when Highfield Road was more like being at Old Trafford, as their fans were everywhere. Really pissed me off !During the late 70s you had to collect vouchers from previous games to get in to the Man Utd game and there were plenty of extra "home" fans in the West End for these games and of course the Man Utd game.
