Yes other folk had managed to take theirs in - saw quite a few. Depends on which jobsworth is on the turnstile I guess. As I said earlier inconsistent and why now?

At the Morecambe game last season they told us to 'sort it out amongst yourselves' with people sitting in our seats. Ended up having to go down the front with a shit view

It is as if somebody is trying to make the experience miserable next there will be no warm water in the toilets.
They should be made offer free water in the ground in plastic cups obviously it’s all about the cash.

The confiscation of drinks etc is a joke. Like the pointless ticket checks, it’s totally inconsistent as you all note. I’ve found many times a coke or water bottle in my coat pocket is fine then next time it’s a full search and no no no! I was told once it was ok for a fully sealed bottle but not one that was partly drunk. They make it up as they go along. When I go with my 12 yo son he always takes a backpack or drawstring bag with a drink / scarif / spare layer etc in it. Only once have they asked to see what’s in his bag. You then look about and see families with “picnics” from Tesco or bits and bobs from home no issues....

its all down to the bottle being thrown a few weeks back at Celtic, knee jerk reaction after something has happened, probably took many hours of meetings no doubt at the sfa/fa to come up with a memo to all clubs, as long as the morons stop throwing things at players for the next few weeks it will all be forgotten and you can take your flasks in again.

Went to a game in Belgium last week and you can drink beers in your seats, but they didn’t serve hot drinks. Not sure if it was health and safety

That's true. It's one of the requirements of holding an alcoholic sellers licence that free, potable water is available at all times the bar(s) is/are open. Potable means drinkable. Ice doesn't have to be offered but clean drinkable water does.

I thought last time that a steward who stopped both of us who were drinking a Starbucks on the way in was joking when he was about to take it off us. He was deadly serious. Instead of handing it over I had finished it anyway.

When I was a steward at Highfield Road, we used to stop and search about every 4th person to try and make it random. Anyway, one day some bloke came up to the turnstile and I said "Excuse me Sir. Random search. I have to pat you down." He stood still while I patted his clothing. Then I felt something in his inside pocket. I asked him what it was and he said it was a quarter bottle of scotch, "Sorry Sir," I said. "That won't be coming into the ground." He looked perplexed and said "What am I supposed to do with it?" I said "You can either dispose of it here or leave it with us and collect it after the game." He thought for a moment and said, "Sod it!" and walked away a few yards. He then proceeded to knock the whole lot back. He placed the empty bottle in a bin. He came back to the turnstile waiting his turn to pass through. I placed my hand on him and said, "Sorry Sir. I've just watched you drink that scotch straight back. I believe you are now inebriated. I can't let you in!" He wandered off muttering something about my parentage but didn't try to get back in! Yep. Stewards can be right gits sometimes!! :joyful:

So you didn't let him in because you just watch him drink half a bottle of Scotch,i'm assuming a small bottle,but let in hundreds who had been caning it down the boozer before the match. lol

Wasn't the bottle chucked at Celtic an (empty) glass bottle of Buckie, which is a different proposition to a plastic one, even when full? Hand out lifetime bans for anyone throwing anything on to the pitch. The inconsistent application of the "regulations" is the most galling thing. And who in their right mind is going to throw away their own flask?

Trouble is now there are rules at football matches backed by law which can be interpreted any way that suits and one stewards opinion is different than another.
Here’s a good steward story going back years, playing Liverpool at HR and a scally jumped the turnstiles in the Main stand a jobsworth steward chased and lost him in the crowd, he came up to us asking if we saw him my mate asked what he looked like he said dark hair and had a red shirt on

Firstly, it was a ¼ bottle of scotch and secondly, I hadn't witnessed anyone else downing any booze. He did it right in front of me. I wouldn't know if hundreds of other fans had been to the pub prior to the game which, by the way, isn't against any regulations. Being drunk and disorderly was and still is, and he would have been D&O in a very short time. Gee, I hope that answers your question. Oh, sorry. I forgot …...... Lol!

His ticket stated the seat and entrance to be used. Upper West End Family Stand. He wouldn't have been allowed in through another turnstile with the ticket he had.

I went to watch Sparta Prague last year whilst on a stag do. You could also take beers to your seats as well as hot drinks etc.
Must have been just 4 away fans as well at that game! Will try and dig out the picture of them.

Ok, more than 4 but fair play to them. They scored and went mental. Didn't get any stick from the Sparta fans although their Ultras were the opposite end of the stadium.
