"Playing for Coventry has been the best time I've had in football so far" says Fox
Former Coventry City defender Dan Fox has said he would love to return to Coventry one day and play again for the club.
Fox joined Coventry from Wallsall shortly after Ray Ranson took control of the club, but was sold, along with Scott Dann, for a handsome profit the following season. Fox went to Celtic, but moves quickly to Burnely who were then playing in the Premier League.
Fox had hoped to be in the Burnley side who play at The Ricoh on Saturday, but he has damaged his ankle ligaments and will miss the game.
The 24 year old defender said, “I’ve done my ligaments,I was really looking forward to returning to the Ricoh. Since I joined Burnley I’ve been looking in the fixtures to see when we’re playing them so I’m really disappointed not to be as it’s always a good ground to play at."
“Playing for Coventry has been the best time I’ve had in football so far. Chris Coleman was brilliant with me and I’d like to go back at some point because of how much the fans appreciated me.”
“I really enjoyed working under Chris. I had a good relationship with him and Steve Kean and they taught me a lot. I was quite shocked when he got sacked. Coventry had a dip in form and nothing to really play for by the end of the season, but I’m sure he will get a job sooner or later."
“If he had been given more time it might have been different, but his team was ripped apart once he had to sell me, Scott Dann and Leon Best' it totally split the team down the middle, but Coventry are doing well under the new manager."
“I spoke to Sheffers the other day and he said Aidy Boothroyd has made the team more resilient and organised, so you’ve got to give credit to him.”
Fox spoke about his departure from Coventry saying, “I was really pleased when Chris Coleman took me into his office and told me if I was to leave it would be to go to Celtic or Rangers to play in the Champions League. That was really exciting but it didn’t work out. That’s football."
“I played every game at Celtic and Tony Mowbray said he didn’t want to sell me but they got an offer from Burnley. They were mid-table in the Premiership when I joined, but things turned sour and we went down, but I’ve had a good start with Burnley and I luckily I haven’t had too many injuries.”
Also at Burnley is another former Coventry player Jack Cork, who was on loan at City from Chelsea. “Corky is playing really well at the moment,” said Fox.
