What he should have done is taken the chance over the last 18 months to go and gain some experience and be a number 2 to someone. This is where I have more respect for the likes of Keane and RVN, they have gone and done the hard yards as an assistant at a number of places. Frank did about 12-18 months as a youth coach then has only been a manager since.

This is a huge gamble for both us and him, there's been a few people in the media, Alan Smith, Allerdyce and others that have all said after his last 2 jobs this is make or break, fails at us and it's probably his managerial career over at championship level or higher

It’s only 1 job. You can’t count a caretaker role as an actual managerial job.

I mean if you’re doing that, all Rhys Carr needs to do is win tomorrow and percentage wise he will be one of our best ever managers

That's true, but nobody who's had groundbreaking achievements was ever likely to take the job.

You guys are infuriating. People keep posting things along the lines of “why is nobody talking about him getting a top four finish??” And others are explaining why that isn’t seen a great achievement and then you’re all like “Oh so it has to be a great achievement” well yes because you said it was!!

Fucking chess with pigeons man.

You can make two entirely plausible narratives about his career from the available data. One in which he’s a promising manager who has taken teams to the playoffs and the Champions League, one in which he’s a nepo baby promoted beyond his abilities, proved by his last two jobs.

Reality is that we don’t know, but this job is critical for him. If he succeeds here the first narrative will be the one people remember. If he doesn’t? Well it’s a lifetime of punditry for him.

You can't blame him for trying, could just go on Sky and have a cushy job.

He failed and got sacked in his second season at Chelsea. League only:

Derby - season 1 - achieved about par for the squad he had. Left

Chelsea - season 1 - achieved about par for the squad he had

Chelsea - season 2 - got sacked January, with Chelsea massively under achieving, in 9th place. Tuchel came in and turned it around and finished 4th

Everton season 1 - came in January with 16th in the league, finished 16th, 6 wins 2 draws and 10 losses 20 points from 18 games.

Everton season 2 - sacked with Everton in 19th position 3 wins, 6 draws and 11 losses. Dyche comes in saves them from relegation

Chelsea caretaker - took over with Chelsea 11th 7 points adrift of 7th and a European place with 9 to play, so not quite over, managed just 1 win and 2 draws, finishing 12th 17 points adrift from 7th.

His career has been in a major decline.

Frank wasn't my first choice, but to be perfectly honest I couldn't care about what he's done before us.

What he does with us is all that matters and I hope he does well.

People genuinely wishing the manager of the club they support to fail is absolutely baffling behaviour.
Who’s wishing him to fail

The way some people on here are going you'd think he's the second coming of Russel Slade.

To be fair maybe 'wishing' was the wrong word, but people have written him off before he's even started.

Exactly. Hes not started. He’s not the manager. All this “support him in the job” stuff is a bit silly when as of now he doesn’t have the job.

Agree about the people wanting him to fail, that's just odd as that will mean we might go down!! However, I am not sure about the logic of not caring what he has done before, in recruitment processes that's typically a key consideration?

No, but it is giving more like the second coming of Peter Reid/Chris Coleman vibes.

Hope he does well, just doubt it and have grave concerns.

Tbf stupot you (nor me) have any idea about how the world of elite coaching works. Way too simplistic to say the right thing to do is become a number 2 for a while

This is it. I sometimes wonder if some don’t remember CCFC 2001-2011 and that’s why they’re not worried about us going back to it.

I'm more talking about people saying he won't do well here because he didn't do well at Everton etc... You never know how it'll work out.

Oh don't worry I remember.

As I've said, Frank wasn't my first choice and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't slightly apprehensive.
However, if it is Frank, we'll just have to wait and see, but I hope he does well.

Literally no one is there except the people you make up in your head to get angry at.
On other side of coin are there really people out there who love king and hate robins? Are there really people out there who say lampard is the best manager out there?

I don't think so. I feel like you make shit up to get angry about personally. You start arguments with anyone over it in fact.

Been smarting ever since the coaching news came out. Thought this would be done with by now. Unfortunately not. Hopefully now we back to games everyone can move on to something different
