2024/25 League 1 Champs?

90 pages in I’m going to throw my hat into the ring, for what it’s worth.

Did I want Mark Robins gone? 100% not, still smarting now, awful decision hang your head in shame Doug King. Frank Lampard, class player, intelligent, grafter with a strong desire to do his absolute best and get the best out of his players.

Forget his stints at Chelsea and Everton the stakes are too high in the Premier League for a new young manager to cut his teeth and learn the trade, ruthless and many young aspiring managers will fall on the sword trying to do so. That said his first stint at Chelsea in his first season was a success when you consider their transfer embargo when he joined finishing 4th with a young squad. He also got them out of their Champions League group the following season before the sword ruthlessly fell, he’s no mug.

My only reservation with him coming here is will he be afforded the time? Doug King has, to me proved impatient and this could lead to him becoming “trigger happy” moving forward, also us, the fans, will we turn like some did with Mark Robins after, admittedly, a poor run of form/results?

I may be completely wrong here, but, I think he will do ok, if left alone and given time, however, I’m not sure he will get either of those as we enter the manager merry-go-round, anyway, I know I’m in a minority here, but yes I am in the Frank Lampard corner and if he does get the job I will of course back him 100%.

a balanced view 👍🏼

except why do you believe DK is impatient? I think he stuck with Robins when others may not have, and to be fair to him the only reason he decided to make a change was because of Robins’ actions, having already warned him that he would be at risk… and even then stuck with him through what was a long run of shite form

Didn’t King say that if it wasn’t for Vik’s goals in 22/23 he was worried about relegation? Not sure Robins was ever the man for him, and it’s his club, there is definitely an argument that Robins had a lot more time under King than he would have had under other new owners. I’ve never minded King… still think Robins should have had longer but there’s a lot of owners that would have pulled the trigger months ago.

You spent years sniping and having a pop at the manager, refusing to ever give any credit for anything he did, and now you’re saying it’s weird not to get behind the manager 😁

Yeah it was years, I had a sniper rifle.

I'm saying it's weird to be more obsessed with an ex manager than the club.

Try to keep up.

Not sure I’ve seen anyone more obsessed with the ex manager than the club, I’d say nobody is, and I’d suggest that the reaction to Robins is precisely because they are obsessed with the club. But that’s how you roll, making things up and a strange hatred of Mark Robins, so ok.

I don’t throw my toys out like Doug when people ask reasonable questions, groaning and sighing like he’s above everything.

No of course not just come out with a load of insults.

Anyway Earlsdon Loyal Blue shouldn't it be, Earlsdon Loyal Sky Blue or is it because you're a Leicester City fan.

Cheers.

A couple of things that make me feel that DK is impatient are 1. he pulled the trigger at the first given opportunity when things haven’t been going so well, and, 2. he’s a businessman first and foremost and doesn’t necessarily, I feel, have the patience often required where footballing matters are concerned, this was the first time in Mark Robins’ tenure where the club had hit a bit of a wobble. Like I say just my opinion.

Also, don’t I trust anyone who gets a leaver to sign an NDA then completely throws him under a bus knowing full well that there can be no, public, comeback, for me that says a lot about someone and doesn’t endear me to them, again just my opinion.

I do however think that we may be entering a turbulent time with manager changes with the aim of trying to get to the Premier League at a time when a cool head and a bit of stability is required. Yes, recent results have been shite but I felt a bit more loyalty to the very man who got us into this position deserved a bit more tbh.

If Lampard does get the job whether he gets picked apart or not depends on who gets the assistant coaching role and their involvement on match day.

That's a good point the assistant coach could end up being more important than the head coach.

How do you know Mark Robins has signed a NDA?... I've not heard or read that anywhere.
My take is that Mark is saying nothing while he's negotiating his settlement money.

He's dyslexic, it was in his DNA - he had Sky Blue Blood (apart from when he jumped ship).

Your recent posts give the impression of someone who’s lining up distractions if things don’t work out.

Been on the weed again?

Read back through the chain that was being quoted. You will get some context.

Wasn't aware of that Rob👍
I was p*ssed off because I had a very good inside track that pretty much said the job was his before he went. I had £50 on at 7/1, then he didnt get it. Wasn't sure how I felt about it at the time but then he got us to the play-off final and all was forgiven :)

You are entitled to your view, even if your second piece of evidence has nothing to do with patience ! 🤔

Surely the first opportunity was a year ago when we spent a tonne of money and were hopeless for 3 months.

The second opportunity was at the end of last season when our form ( 2 fa cup matches aside ) was poor.

The third was in the summer when Robins said he was not prepared to work with Adi, the same Adi he had persuaded the owner to give a 4 yr contract to only months earlier ….

I could go on but it’s clear that when Doug did fire Mark, whether you agree with the decision or not, it was not at the first opportunity.

We're all going over old ground back and forth with the rights and wrongs of the sacking, but I dodnt get where we've spent a load of money that I keep reading. Lots of it will be staged payments and I doubt we're even level on the income received from the two big sales.

In terms of personnel or recruitment, our squad depth was weak, that's improved now. Whilst we won't get every signing right, we are not shopping at Harrods as Sillett used to say. We've moved up from Poundstretcher but are still at Primark, trying to improve some of the things we have over time incrementally. If the players we signed were as good as Vik or Gus they would have cost as much and therefore anything less is likely to be a downgrade.

We were very fortunate to have had either of those, let alone both at the same time and again we can all argue as to whether that was already there, talent spotted, coaching, Adi or Mark etc, but the facts are they were outstanding players. Others havent been adequately replaced eg O'Hare who arguably had a strong market value and a lack of experience that we're led to believe doesn't fit the model or identity of what the owner wants.

It will take time and organically get there unless we unearth a few more gems. It's less likely but we are also competing with bigger budgets and parachute payments. Whoever is at the helm won't have it easy and if we're to achieve success, they must perform ahead the budget in the way Robins always did.
