He is out of the running for the Roma job, apparently.

If there’s a profile of job to restore Lampard’s reputation, it’s a club like ours. We’re underperforming and if he gets us up the table and even promoted, his stock will be sky high again. My belief is that he left Derby too early and was out of his depth at Chelsea because Top 4 in the Prem v top 4 in the Championship is another stratosphere.

The thought that a coach who’s finished in the Top 4 and coached in the UCL is being sniffed at is quite a new and strange emotion to feel as a Cov fan.

I’m not ecstatic about sacking Robins or Lampard coming in, but

But to be fair, the bookies usually know more than 'skybluecam' from a forum.
Do they though?

I suspect on these markets they rake it in by just putting up a list of former players, champo managers recently out of a job and one of Rooney/Lampard/Gerrard, then just slash the odds on anyone that actually gets backed in case they are in the running.

In fairness mucca I'd have put a cheeky fiver on you finishing top 4 with that chelsea team

It's probably the market where the bookies are at their most clueless.

Yeah but if his name was Robban Këånë no one would have an issue with that. I’m sure it’s a pub league but he’s been very successful in that pub league. Lampards record is questionable, at best the consensus seems to be he spends a lot to keep the club where they are.
Keane has one season of success. If Lampard left Chelsea after one season he’d look like a Demi-God, finishing Top 4 in the Prem with a transfer embargo is a bigger achievement than any other coach we’re likely to hire. He has at least managed in the Championship too.

If we were in L1 or looking to establish ourselves in the Championship, Keane would probably be an interesting gamble. In my view, we have a squad that is close to being an automatic promotion team. 2-3 quality signings would make all the difference at CB and CM in particular.

Anyone with less than a couple of seasons’ experience as a manager is a huge risk, especially if they don’t have any coaching experience at a high level.

I don’t think anyone would be suggesting Keane if he hadn’t played for us before, and I don’t think sentiment should play that much into our hiring decisions.

When people say “the bookies know” they mean the wisdom of the crowd. On something like this the crowd knows fuck all.

Sometimes when people are lumping large sums on an outcome the bookies probably rightly assume somebody is in the know

Hahaha I rate that!

Was Chelsea’s team that season particularly good? I recall him blooding through a lot of youngsters (Mount, James, Hudson-Odoi and Tammy Abraham) and that season was a ‘free hit’ for Chelsea and they overperformed.

The Championship is probably Lampard’s level so I don’t think it would be a terrible appointment to be honest. The only candidates that would excite me would be Moyes, Potter or Cooper (assuming he became available) and the first 2 names are just not realistic and the other is employed (for now).

I worked in online bookies for years when I was younger. Let's say 1000 people all put a £100 on Potter to be the new manager, his odds would shorten to being the favourite. They don't go on actually knowledge or inside info, just the odds and trying to balance the books and having to pay out as little as possible.

I think Lampard has been tainted with his second stint at Chelsea and Everton.
His second go at Chelsea was a mess, I don’t think anyone could have done anymore there.

Everton is a strange one, their owner has been looking to get out for a while so doubt he had the kind of stability he will have here and they stayed up, which isn’t any less than any other Everton manager has done since.

if Championship is his level… what happens if/when we go up?

Would 1000 people bet that kind of money on the new Coventry manager without having some kind of insight or knowledge of the situation?

One step at a time! Getting us out of this league will be tough and you’d hope Lampard could utilise his contacts to get good recommendations on loans/transfer from his Chelsea/Man C days.

If he got us promoted he’d deserve a shot at keeping us up but to be frank, I could see him doing a Kompany or Maresca and leaving right away.

If he gets us up he's justified the appointment

The fact Keane is even being considered is insane.

Kompany didn't leave straight away, he stayed for the 1 season in the PL.

It wasn't *that* good of a team tbf and they'd just lost Hazard off the back of that as well

It was an alright side but nothing compared to Chelsea line ups of the mid/late 2000s and early 2010s

I get they were in a state, but they still ahd a decent team and 1 win in 11 games is shocking. Defensively they were a shambles.
In fairness... superior managers in Thomas Tuchel and Graham Potter couldn't get a tune out of that side either

100% his contacts would help. Could Stamenić have been swayed if Lampard was in charge? Maybe?

I’m not sure he’d be so quick to jump ship. I think his Premier League stock has definitely taken a hit with Everton. It’s hard to place him, I can’t see him managing abroad. He’s had a go at a top club, twice. He’s had a go with a club trying to stay up

I'd imagine the next manager market can be exploited fairly easily by the bookies.

They only need the help of some social media outlet, releasing rumours of who maybe in the frame and punters will back those names.

This is a very good unbiased coverage of the sacking would recommend anyone to have a look and drop him a like, he does a very good job covering the Championship and remaining unbiased

Nails it. This has just reinforced how moronic it was to get rid of him. At the absolute minimum, not to give him until the new year.

I think we know that it was nothing to do with results, Doug 'The Ego' King, wants to be the main man. He wants to modernise the structure (that was maybe overly reliant on Robins) which has brought us all the success of the last 7 years. Replaced with one that will see us like every other club, replacing their "head coach" every 12 months. Why would anyone coming in think DK will stand by them at the first sign of trouble?

The point about the manager odds, seeing that list compared to Robins just depresses me.
