I'd absolutely luv RVN over Carsley - the football played just feels like it'd be better & more exciting to watch

We are absolutely a top six side. If we don’t perform like that any new manager isn’t pulling his weight.
I would expect our midfield and left back shortcomings to be addressed in january, and then we should be set, but top 6 maybe just a stretch

There will be a period of adjustment I’m sure but you would hope the last 2 months would see us in top 6 form, however given we will be well behind the top 6 by then i think a top 8-10 finish is more realistic.

The England U21 job is a bit of a managerial graveyard tbh. Very few people go on to achieve much at all after leaving the role.

Potentially, a lot of European federations hire from within, Germany and Spain regularly have and they’re the two powerhouses of European football.

The England setup may follow suit. There’s an understanding on Carsley’s side that there’s a pathway to the top job. Either way, leaving the U21s for a Championship is a lot of risk for his reputation so I find it unlikely he’d opt for us to be honest.

The new manager not only has huge shoes to fill, Robins’ shadow will be cast over us until we get into the Prem.

Fun fact, there have been 10 permanent England U21 managers, and four of them have managed us.

Most of this forum had been talking about how shit this playing squad was for the last few weeks 😆
I'd expect an upturn in form sure, I don't expect us to continue in this relegation battle. If someone gets us anywhere near play offs from here they've played a blinder.

Yep I was certain it would turn eventually based on the underlying data. Bad luck was strong this season.

Having said that, if we can appoint RVN that is a game changer

I was really disappointed that Doug wasn't quizzed on this at the Fans Forum. Particularly after Dean Austin said how much we utilise data now.
He's dispensed with arguably our best ever manager after 7 & a half years based on 'vibes' when the underlying data suggests he would turn it around.

It’s a lot of risk but it’s A: A club which just gave a manager Seven years so might be safer than others. B: Local to him as he lives in Kennilworth so won’t need to relocate. C: A club who’s new owner has a huge desire to develop players meaning you can carry on working with younger players which is the part of your Job you say as loving. Plus the club if I’m not wrong has links to the strachen set up so could be fun for him.

Not correct.

the data tells us that we are averaging 1 point a match over the end of last season and this.

He was not confident that our previous track record of turning around poor starts would continue without Adi and Dennis.

He mahave picked up the sub standard training feedback from the players that some on here did too but he didn’t say that.

He gave Mark the option to address this in the summer and again at the end of Dec but he rejected that chsnce.

He therefore made a change.

I think the risk of hiring Carsley is much more tilted in our direction. I doubt he will get a much better career option than us once he leaves the U21s job. Think a media role is more likely tbh.

Sheff Weds have the same odds as us - we will have to get 2 points a game on average to have a chance
I really can't believe we are still doing this. 8 points is 8 points, teams come back from that all the time. Jordan pointed out in the Talksport interview that Robins had done it previously [in February] and both he and King agreed that promotion was the aim for the new manager THIS SEASON and that the play offs certainly weren't out of the question. That should really kill this as an argument.

Our stats show we were playing to a decent level. If we weren't conceding above our xG we would be in the mix already. I'm not lynching the new manager for not making it but the idea that top 6 is out of the question and the season is over is absolute bunkum!

It's 9 points not 8

Surely the logical period to look at is from when Robins set up his new coaching team in July. Panic-mongers on here gave them 10 games before calling for Robins' head, and the owner sacked him after 14.
I was frustrated with results this season, but recognised our recruitment targets weren't met in a couple of positions, so was quite comfortable with it being another transition season within the 5-year plan.
King has taken an enormous unnecessary gamble IMO, ironically in the name of reducing risk to the club.

Just to set the expectation here, coming second in the league with PSV isn't really any kind of achievement. The Dutch league have three teams which are head and shoulders above the rest (the other two being Ajax and Feyenoord). It sounds great until you know the league, but I wouldn't be getting too carried away.

100%. Not sure why Lampard is seen as the spawn of satan whilst people are warming up the special sock for RVN

Give Doug his due, his argument was that this only became a transitional season because Robins refused to work with Vivesh.

Pesonally I still think Robins was our best bet long term and the Talksport interview was really odd in that Doug was basically saying 'I sacked him because we couldn't find the right coaches... for whatever reason.' Finding the right coach would seem a lot less disruptive than finding a new manager absent of a plan - but we are where we are.

Edit - changed quotations to inverted commas as it might not be an exact quote.

They usually don’t though.
It would take a lot of work to stat this out but every year you you get teams come from those sort of points margins down to appear in the playoffs. Some fall away again after but it is not a significant gap and that is clearly where Doug thinks we should be come the end of the season.

If every team routinely made up 8 point gaps on each other from this stage of the season then the final league table won’t look remotely like it does now. Whereas I’m willing to bet there will be some pretty strong correlation to the current state of play.

There is significant churn over the course of a championship season. If you are expecting the final championship table to look broadly like it does now you are in for a shock. I'm done debating this. Jordan and king agree we should be aiming for playoffs, we've done it before, other teams have done it before but if you want to just give up... fine.

Bookies odds are shite for next manager. Who is seriously betting on the next Coventry boss?

Need to be looking towards the guys we know have applied - Lampard, Boa Morte and Skubala.

Would be surprised if Skubala didn't at least get an interview and he's no where to be seen on the odds.

Why does it matter if he gives up on the season? He's not manager or owner... at least i don't think so.
