He has 4 assists to Bidwell's 2 over this season and last season.

He's miles better on the ball than Bidwell, who's only move is a hopeful ball down the channel or a floated cross to no one.
Where are you getting that stat from? Tbf I can't think of any although assume you're right. Also whilst neither are prolific, Bidders has scored 3 goals for us (2 in last season and this) JDS has none.

His assist this season against Derby wasn't even a pass it was a dribble that he over ran. And his one for O'Hare against Leicester was a 1 yard pass as he was dribbling away from goal in the box.

Only 2 of his have come from good crosses - Cardiff and Hull. His delivery from wide is not great either.

They all count but the way you talk is like Dasilva is some kind of attacking genius with a wand of a left foot.

With all the ££££££ it's going to cost Doug, looks like he'll be changing his mind on loans, as they will be the only option we can afford!!!

Loans aren't necessarily cheap as often the parent club demands a loan fee - which can be substantial - as well as requiring that some or all of the player's wages are covered.

If you listen to the fans forum again King confirms that loans are allowable under their transfer approach ( as are experienced players ) and Austin explains why they can be difficult to get right.

There is no suggestion from either that we didn’t try to get the right loans or experienced players in during the summer, or wouldn’t try in January.

We had an agreement to loan a Liverpool CDM in place but he got a nasty injury so it fell through last minute.

I'm worried about the control Lampard is going to have and the wages being shelled out. If we're bringing in the ex Millwall manager he's probably on similar to Robins.

This appointment feels risky

No he won't be, he was sacked in his first actual managers job.

He won't be on manager wages as a coach

There is a risk to any appointment. Now if these players are as good as Doug and a few other posters still think they are, it shouldn't matter too much who the manager is and we'll cruise to a top 10 finish

2 year deal seems odd. Surely for stability it needs to be this season plus two years as a minimum. I know it means a bigger pay off if it's wrong, but who sets out like that? We'll presumably back him in the window and after Robins and Adi got 4 year deals it seems low.
Maybe someone else will take it over by then?
Approaching the five Yr point.

These crossing stats are bollocks, you can hit the perfect cross every time but if we dont have the type of players that thrive on an aerial ball then you wont score goals!

Robins had a lot of control and imo, the manager needs to have as much ‘power’ as possible in terms of recruitment (i.e. sign-off) and coaching structure. This logic applied to Robins as much as his successor.

Give Lampard everything he needs to have success in the role and then there’s no excuse if he fails. He’s going to be a lot better connected than MR ever was so the optimism I have is that he’ll be able to bring in high quality coaches with him.

It may be harsh on the existing coaching setup but even by Robins own admission, he chose them and they were ‘growing in the role’. The best case view of this is that they are ‘developing’ into the level required. The worst case, is that they’re out of their depth and that leap of faith from MR probably cost him his job.

Yeah I agree with that. Dasilva is tidy on the ball, but he's not the great attacking talent some make him out to be, and they his attacking prowess should excuse him for his defensive frailties

King can’t win can he, if he brings someone in and allows them to hire their own preferred staff it’s risky but if he brought in a head coach and makes them work with what we’ve got he’d be “cheap”.

There was speculation from some quarters that we'd just end up with George Boateng for the rest of the season.

Works for both parties in my view in terms of flexibility. 2 years works for Lampard if he does well at the club and keep his options open to progress. In parallel, it won’t be as expensive for King if this does not go well and needs to sack FL. FL and his staff won’t be cheap so the relatively short term contract works for us.

Contract lengths don’t really mean much, Robins signed a 4 year deal in 2023 and was sacked 18 months later.

Where does this leave the performance director?
Assume she'll still be required, but hss she improved us in any way?

Nope. See the whole reaction to sacking Robins and the indignation of not having lined someone up simultaneously.

On this forum, you see people commented on things they have no clue about. 2.5 weeks to conduct interviews and hire a manager is a rapid turnaround in just about any other industry. Especially when negotiating for other staff and potentially paying off existing staff too.
