It's painfully obvious we have not replaced the roles COH, Palmer or Kelly played in the squad and midfield is looking bare. Here you can see free transfers. Any appeal?

From his post match comments it didn’t sound like MR was looking for anyone.

Looking for a suitable midfield free agent is something the club definitely must be looking at especially with Sheaf being so prone to injuries.
Been mentioned earlier on another thread but Matty James is a free agent and did a great job for us when here on loan before.

Injury prone just what we need.

Doubt we'll be looking - this guy seems well informed - very interesting;
I can't, no. They're targets that will be carried to the next window. One came very close, wage structure proving difficult, I believe it fell through quite late on. I didn't know anything about the RB we had a bid rejected for. Also there was a loanee who picked up an injury and remained with parent club. Seems things just weren't falling into place for us.
From what I've heard today, we should be thankful we are now in a position to turn down bids, as there were 3 rejected. In past years we'd have sold last minute and not had chance to bring anyone else in, so I'm grateful.
Today could've been a worse atmosphere than what it already was. As disappointed as I am we didn't strengthen the glaringly obvious, I know it wasn't through lack of effort.
I know people are upset Palmer left without replacement, I thought for sure they'd have it sorted if he was departing, but after today I know there was no coming back into the team for him.
Sheaf back in training next week.

I wish I could say more, but I respect the club want to move quietly. If people knew they type of players we are going for, it would probably change a lot of views on the matter. We're almost 2 years into a 5 year plan (probably a provocative statement today), it's going to take time to get the right players in the right positions. Replacing one by one is tedious, but that's FFP and wage structure for you, I don't want us to return to the days when we were all selling no reinvesting. It's just perspective. I get the frustration, but I see people on here who are nowhere to be seen when the team are doing well, then whipping up the negativity at the first opportunity. That's not general fan frustration, it's doom mongering. Looking at it, I don't think any of the teams touted for the top, have really had the best starts possible, look at Luton. I still think the Championship is wide open this season. Strange results everywhere in the first few weeks.

Yes he's had some nasty long term injuries in his career and at 33 he doesn't fit the profile of the type of player the club sign but as a free agent on a short term contract he would be a steady old head to cover for Sheaf when injured, no denying he did a fantastic job for the club when he was here on loan before.

A confused thread. The title is Free Transfers, but appears to talk about Free Agents. They are two different things in regards as when you can sign them and play them outside of the transfer window.

I think it is rare there are any free agents worth taking on outside the transfer window? All the good free agents get sorted pretty quickly once their contract expires.

Normally this market is not worth the hassle however this year with what happened at Bordeaux think there’s a few I’d be more than happy to pay a signing on fee for.

I would absolutely take a punt on a 1 year contract on a couple of these midfielders.

Armstrong has a decent enough appearance record to give confidence he can stay fit once he recovers from injury.

No chance King goes for this sort of signing anyway.

👀 Emiliano Marcondes

Only way George can redeem himself

Seriously worth a punt on Armstrong though, 42 games last year could be ideal. Only problem is he'd want £££ and a longer contract than we'd likely be prepared to offer.

John Fleck is an interesting thought, if he is fit enough. I know he has had injuries over the last year or two. He was a player I really liked when he was with us.

I looked him up and was surprised to see that he only turned 33 about a week ago. I thought he would be at least a couple of years older than that.

Norwood played more matches for Sheffield Utd last season and a similar age, he was available and has gone to league 1.
