Dear Lord
For You football must seem so un-necessary but to the people in Your World it means so much.
If you go to Brazil or other developing country You will see kids who only possess one piece of clothing and usually that is a football shirt.
Football is the only way they can get out of this terrible situation, in Your World.
But their belief in You is clear to see.
All around the world people have great faith in You.
And the same is here too.
From the old to the young we follow our clubs.
My father who has been a servant to You for the past 40 years, to me who will serve You all my life.
Yet his great passion has been taken away from him.
He is now too old to travel to games that are too far away.
My mum and my nephews who ages are a world apart are brought together through football. They talk. They cheer. They cry.
But for the last 12 months or more they have not been able to go to see them.
Lord, You have the power to change people's hearts and open their eyes.
People who follow You and are in a position of power, Lord, touch their hearts to show them their responsibility to the community.
Do not let them be hard hearted and cold. Let them embrace love and hope and let them show charity.
It is written in 1Corinthians 13,

1 Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal. 2 And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. 3 And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned,[a] but have not love, it profits me nothing.
4 Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; 5 does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; 6 does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; 7 bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
8 Love never fails. But whether there are prophecies, they will fail; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away. 9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part. 10 But when that which is perfect has come, then that which is in part will be done away.
11 When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things. 12 For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known.
13 And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.

And so Lord I pray to You this hour, this day to work Your miracles and bring our worthless team back to the mountains of all our hopes and loves.

I ask all this in Jesus name, Amen

Dear God, you don't exist, but if you do exist you are clearly either lazy and good for nothing, or an evil c**t, sort your life out, ps sending your son to be tortured and die isn't a good apology for drowning the entire population of the planet and every other species, apart from two of everything. Try flowers and chocolates next time you slaughter us all, thanks.

If he was any good and made two of everything, he should have made Karen Gillan twins!!!

The Earth is only 6000 years old. "How do yu explain the fossil record?" - "They are just rocks!" (I heard this at a Creationist debate - I was on the side of science and reality by the way)

Things like on the news this morning, with the couple who didn't get on the Malaysian plane irk me somewhat too.

Basically, they were supposed to be on the flight but didn't go on. The wife said she felt something was watching over them. Well if I were a relative of any of the other 298 passengers I would be deeply offended by that.

Someone or something saved you but allowed all the other 298 passengers to die? :censored:

It is an incredibly selfish thing to say.

Seth Macfarlane (Family Guy) was late one day and missed his flight - it was one of the four 911 flights (he never claimed it was anything but luck though).

They are indeed a special breed. Broad minded me couldn't believe what he was hearing from seemingly intelligent people - and I was brought up with religion. A irrational, nasty and spiteful bunch (insert Sisu joke here)

Had never heard of them, so just looked them up.

Good grief the world's gone mad!!!!!!!!!!!

'Since 1982, between 40% and 50% of adults in the United States say they hold the young Earth view that God created humans in their present form at one time within the last 10,000 years'

Unbelievable. Words fails me.

That stuff drives me nuts, you see it alot from America, A tornado rips through the neighbourhood decimating it and sky news have an interview with someone praising God, God's so wonderful for looking out for us because they found their puppy alive, yeah I know the guy next door lost his wife and 2 kids and half the community no longer has a house but praise God, God is wonderful (I don't mean Thank God my puppy is ok because thats just normal speech, I mean outright loving praise).

And how many of you celebrate Christmas, easter, st George's day?,,,, or do you do it for you kids?

Christmas, yes, as its the only time of the year all my family get together, so we celebrate sharing a meal and spending time together
Easter - I celebrate the fact there is loads of football on
St Georges Day - We dont even get it as a bank hols, so it shows what the powers that be think of it.

I celebrate christmas in as much its a time I love spending with my family, presents, great food and drink, a decorated tree but while we refer to it as Christmas it has absolutely nothing to do with religion in our household nore the majority of households in the country. Christmas, easter etc were all pagan festivals anyway and Christians just changed them for their own ends. Christmas is supposed to be about Jesus's birthday but there is no evidence that this was Jesus's birthday and masses of evidence that it wasn't (being exceptionally generous and giving the bible undeserved validity here) it's likely to be at least 3 months after jesus birthday.

Love Christmas. Absolutely love it.

Christmas is all about giving and sharing, presents, decorations, getting together as a family and having time off. Easter is all about the eggs and Easter egg hunts.

Or are you saying you have to be religious to celebrate these things? There are people from other religions, obviously not Chistians, who celebrate Christmas too, for the very same reasons I celebrate it.

Don't understand your argument and the fact is that a lot of the festivals have their roots in paganism anyway.

Celebrate being with the family and friends at Christmas. Easter means nothing apart from a chocolate egg for my daughter. Virtually everything to do with Christmas and Easter is of pagan origin. Nothing to do with the so-called son of a god called Jesus ( thousands of gods and spirits in the world as far back as we humans can trace ).

My daughter (who is just 10 and not the slightest bit religious and can see through the facade) has celebrated Diwali before with her Hindu friend.

Maybe I should tell her to stop doing that you think? :(

Go away in short jerky movements Colin. Religion is becoming a thing of the past. No-one's interested anymore (except for the brain-washed few!)

Still don't understand your argument. I don't need to defend my position.

You can have a family get together 364 days a year, why bother on your birthday?

Pretty much everyone is off at Christmas. A time when you can ALL get together. My brother lives in Hastings. He comes up every Christmas. I see my neice from Manchester, who only comes down for bithdays and Christmas. I have an old friend who lives away and only comes down to see his mum at Christmas and therefore that's the only time I see him too.

But I still don't get your point. Are you saying because I am not a Christian I shouldn't celebrate Christmas? If so, that's hardly a Christian thing to say is it?

Besides, I don't choose the public holidays, the government does and therefore companies follow that ethic. When I was working I would always have 7-10 days off, as my company would close the office.

Maybe I shouldn't have utilised that time to celebrate then and should have used one the other 364 days of the year.

Don't get me wrong, I am not s believer, just wanted to know where you all stood on the major religious events...

Well, for one, As i brought up in a quite Christian family and I also used to be in the church choir. so that is part of my heritage anyway.

Christmas has become much commercialised these days and for me, as I said, it's all about all the family being together, buying presents and dcorating the tree and Christmas crackers and sending cards and everyone being off, at least for a couple of days anyway. Plus then there is usually one or two things quite speical on TV.

When I was very young it was Morecambe and Wise Christmas specials, then it became Only Fools and Horses and now it seems to be Doctor Who. Always something to look forwards to.

It's fine if people want to believe in God, but I am with Pete on this one, the only way is to think forwards and re-evaluate, not follow blindly upon the creed of books written by men for men centuries and centuries ago.

To go forwards we have to stop believing that the bible or quran is the word of God!

Some of the interpretation is plain daft. Can't show your legs, can't show your face, can't clap, can't listen to music, segregate children, women are 2nd class citizens, only teaching your child Yiddish, have a Rabbi bless food before it is consumed etc. etc. etc.

Look what we are reduced too now in the name of religion. Conflict in Syria, conflict in Palestine and Israel, conflict in Iraq and Afghanistan and suicide boming missions in the name of whoever's god.

The world has gone mad and I think we would be better off without organised religion full stop.
