Presumably this is based on the previous 12 seasons that he hasn't managed to in a better side hmm ;)

Ih he played up front all season he might get close - but he won't so he won't make 20. Don't forger, until Micky Adams stuck him on the left of midfield he'd been a striker all his life, and used to bang them in for fun.

If he stays fit at the top of the diamond I am sure he will not only be near the top of the goal scoring chart but also top of the assists chart. Only idiots under rate him :jerkit:

His best goalscoring season's for us were when he was on the wing - which prompted Brum to buy him.

He has the potential to get twenty goals if he stays on form and stays fit. Whatever happens if we don't get any more front players in this season he will almost certainly be our top goalscorer for sure.

i know - so imagine how many he'd have scored if he was up front. What i'm saying is he had a strikers instinct till he was 23ish? It's hard to lose that, plus he's now more experienced, movement is better.

he's shite a defending anyway so i'd rather see him stay up front

I may be wrong but didn't we top the league for chances on goal last season? Gunnar played over half games but the majority of chances were created by players still at the club. Give Juke, O Donovan, Sheff and Eastwood those same chances and I think one of them will score over 20.

out of interest when was the last time he scored 20? I seem to remember his best season for us was something like 17

Gary McSheff has the POTENTIAL to score 20 goals this season if he is used as an attacking force either in the diamond or as partner to Jukebox.

GM's goal scoring record is pretty prolific having scored 52 league goals in 138 games for CCFC which equates to 17+ goals in a 46 game season.

As previous posts indicate a fair proportion were scored in his least favourite position wide left midfield and I am sure many more goals would have been scored playing direct up front.

For some strange reason some previous managers saw him as a wide midfielder with significant defensive duties as well thus nullifying GM's natural predatory instinct and reduced goal scoring opportunities. GM admits he is the worst tackler on the books and is proven by giving away needless free kicks nad not too infrequently being sent off.

GM's other main attributes up front are the distinct opportunity of him winning penalties when "tackled" in full flight in the box and his ability to read the game and deliver an unselfish pass when needed.

So, yes, I think he could be a 20 goal man this season subject to prevailing injuries and tactics

I'll lay you an even £100 that he doesn't score 20 and if I lose I would be more than happy to pay out

Now i am not saying he cant score goals - obviously he can but lets get realistic he has never had a 20 goal season. His greatest goal threat was in his early years in total he scored 79 in 307 games so far. A reasonable estimate on that proportion would be around 12 goals which in itself is not to be sniffed at but 20 I dont think so.

Most managers have played him wider rather than as part of a front two - there has to be a reason for that so how all of a sudden is he going to be a star of the front two ? He is I think suited to the tip of the diamond position but too light weight to be front two and like it or not the championship requires strong front players Sheffers isnt.

As for his tackling ability then he has to do it and do it better - where ever he plays. We cant afford to carry a player when we are defending. I dont agree he has a great passing ability and certainly his set pieces leave a lot to be desired especially the corners! You have also got to think that at 28 he should be at his peak but for me he has slowed up (maybe he was carrying injuries last year though)

Think he is useful to CCFC but a star 20 + goal player no
