Complete nonsense - at what point did I say those that weren't intelligent should run things?

What the comment related to was Maggie - who clearly felt anyone in a menial/physical job could just be cast aside without any form of consideration or consultation as and when desired. Her mindset was similar to those landed gentry of the 17th/18th century who'd just knock down entire villages because it spoilt the vista from their living room - they didn't matter.

No she was in a situation where for the only time until now there was a genuine Marxist threat - we would not have the prosperous society we have now if she had not destroyed an ideology aimed at the destruction of capitalism

So much prosperity food bank use is at an all time high and most young people have to live at home with their parents.

Oh I forgot the 80's was such a fantastic time to be alive. What with the poll tax riots, general political unrest and protests, recession, huge unemployment and people on welfare, social problems, esp in the north and poorer areas of the south, entire livelihoods and communities ripped apart through economic ideology without any thought whatsoever as to replacement industry.

However I will agree with you on the likes of Scargill and modern equivalents like McCluskey - just as slef serving as the likes of JRM but at least they have the decency to not hide that they're in it for themselves

It's just I keep hearing how awful Labour are for the economy then I see that unemployment went to double figures multiple times under the Tories. It's almost like they took a knife to industry with no replacement lined up.

In the 80’s you actually could sign on as a student in the term gains so I assume I was in those unemployed stats. The fact is I never was unemployed, I was in degree course that had 20 plus hours a week of lectures, I bought my first house in 1990 which ate up 50% of my income

The early years of thatcher and unemployment was a direct outcome of the utter screw up of the labour government. You also need to really make your mind up on what labour stands for. Every conservative government after the 70’s shambles has spent more on every element of the Welfare state. The Blair government is the exception so you either are are socialist or a Blairite

What was the second unemployment surge under John Major caused by? My degree course consisted of 20 hours of lectures and 16 hours of lab time a week. In my final year it switched to 9-5 in the lab to complete my research. The difference is you went for nothing and I incurred student debt of nearly £40k.
