As long as our contract offer is on the table then we're owed money. Obviously if he just goes to Thailand and smokes weed for a year his valuation is going to go down. If he signs for a foreign club then I think there are fees set by FIFA

As opposed to a player who doesn't want to be here but will if he can't get any other offers?

For the compensation they should allow a fair deadline for the player to make up his mind for both him and the teams to get ready for the new season.

Sorry Nick I don't quite understand what you're suggesting.

Are you saying that as it's taken so long he should be able to move without the compensation? If that was the case surely all out of contract under 24 would wait until the deadline has passed?

No, just saying there should be a deadline for a player involved to make his mind up before the contract offer from the current club can be withdrawn and the compensation should still stand for the next club who signs him.

Yes, but they didn't take 3 months. Has Thomas officially rejected city's offer or just left it open while his agent hits the phones?

Of course he should look about and weigh up his options, but there should be a deadline. It could then be worked that the club has to offer the player a contract x or y weeks before his expiration date to be eligible for compensation so they can't do it on the last day.

Why? I we don't want to offer him a contract, we don't want to sign a player.

We may well want to sign a player, but then when it gets to August and the start of the season it means we can resort to plan B while his agent phones about.

The contract offer has been there for months, of course he could see what else he is offered but that's why the deadline should be there to prevent this situation. Especially for lower league clubs who will want to get things sorted on tight budgets.

Even if he had just openly rejected it, it would be a start.

That's why there should be a date the club should have offered the contract by and the date the player and his agent should get things done by. That prevents a last minute contract offer from a club the player didn't expect etc.

GT would be stupid to reject a contract with us at the moment and its up to him on how long he takes to decide. If the club retract the contract then he a free man to walk from my understanding. If i was the interested party i would be asking the agent to drag it out in hope CCFC pull the offer off the table, if i'm GT i would do what he is doing now, if i'm the agent i'm forcing a sale by advising GT not to sign and if im CCFC i'm not prepared to walk away from a few hundred thousand.

Stalemate right now and has been for a while, all have a lot to lose in this situation. But sooner or later MR will use the money on the table for GT somewhere else which may force a contract withdrawal. LCFC, Swansea can hang on the question is can we afford to watch money sit on a table while the season is ongoing. If we agreed a package now for the sale of the player the money could be freed and his wages can be used within the squad. This is where the club have to make a decision about what best for MR and the squad.

I agree, but if we let it go on as is, then the ability to strengthen if GT holds out puts the club in a tough spot!, so if i was the club i would drop the amount asked up front build in incentive payments and look to move forward. The one certain is GT is looking at us as a last resort, if he wasn't he would be knocking the door asking to sign a deal, he still might sign but i already think a potential move and wages have already put his head away from us and if this is the case the club should move forward as quick as it can.

Why drop the up front cost though if that would potentially be used to strengthen rather than if he ever gets 100 Wales caps and 50 premier league appearances? If it is him / his agent actively trying to put the club in a tough position then fuck him, make it as difficult as possible for him to get a new club and a wage.

That sort of thing sounds like agent behaviour rather than Thomas himself though.

Maybe Leicester are being non committal before they get the Iheanacho deal done. Once that's gone through they might say nah you're alright George and he has to sign for us.

It means their efforts and attention are focused elsewhere. Or they genuinely don't want to pay more and think we'll panic and take the lower offer.

The fact is George Thomas doesn't want to be here - otherwise he'd of signed the contract that was offered to him.

This has become such a farce and it's not helping CCFC, the player or the manager.

I think you are right, his agent is driving this but it will come to a point where the scenarios are having no wage, club having dead money on the table or a player with declining value. One of these will push a deal one way or the other.

The compensation we will get will potentially on achievement be 7 figures.

The suggestion is we've rejected an offer from the club he's signing for so its going to arbitration.

I didn't suggest that we withdraw a contract offer. As i agree he then becomes a free agent which would cost us potentially thousands of pounds.

Yes if he signed for another club with no compensation agreed arbitration will decide the fees owed. Most are now settled by ongoing payments made on appearances, promotions or sell on clauses.

As stated it's stalemate, clubs don't want to pay 500,000, player has been told to hold out and we are waiting for another offer from interested parties Sooner or later someone in this gets financially hurt, so who blinks first the club or the player/agent. So read the post before you call anyone out and suggest they are clueless.

While generally I agree with the "fucking sign or fuck off" sentiment, the one thing I will say is Leicester are his home town club and probably the team he supports. If I was a kid at a non-league team and City were a possibility, however faint, I'd probably hold out as long as I could.
