Goal Analysis (3 Viewers)

Still frustrated after yesterday’s poor showing, I’ve just watched the highlights on TV. Probably a mistake as I’m even more pi55ed off.

First goal image:
5 players in a line on edge of 6 yard box (looked to be Bassette going towards our goal). Scorer on his own, another guy on his own on pen spot. Both free to pick up any balls that drop (which happened and they scored). Not sure what Milan’s doing here.

Second goal images:
Chap picked up the ball on half way. No one within 20 yards of him, until he got to the edge of the box. Slotted home. 2-0.
Asante not tracking, neither of the 2 CMs coming across to cover until it’s too late. This seemed to happen all half.
Could Thomas not come across and tell Milan to push to press the ball here? Shows no awareness and no communication. Concerning.

Milan then pointing out the area the guy had the freedom of.

Now if I can see this watching from the stands and the highlights on TV, surely the horde of coaches can?? Yet these (and other issues) are happening from game to game. And also don’t seem to be addressed mid game.

Big concerns for me. Other teams who started slowly (eg Luton and Norwich) now picking up wins.
That's been happening all season.

The opposition can literally walk through as at will, that's not even hyperbole and I wish it was.

Back 3/5 is now almost inevitable at this point.

BTA was following the LB Tymon who inverted into midfield. They then had Cooper drift out to the left along with Eom, continually creating 2v1s. It's very clever play by them but it was absolutely criminal that we didn't adapt to it quicker.

As @Nick said earlier, other teams have their keeper go down 'injured' to stop the game so that they can make tactical adjustments. We didn't even need to resort to that, the game stopped anyway for Allen's injury but we still failed to address it. Shocking.
Robins said about getting in at half time, I'm not sure why he thinks he has to wait until then to talk to players and change things?

He should have spotted it and spoken to the players to sort it. He did nothing and they scored from it.

Think it's unfair to blame BTA for that, doesn't look like a lack of trying, it looks like a down the middle centre forward being played wide right and assigned defensive duties that he doesn't know how to carry out.
It looked like a lack of trying from where I was sitting, literally cantering back. The bare minimum you can expect is application and effort, defensive work is basically non negotiable.

All our wide players have been AWOL out of possession, it's a big part of why we are so open.

Torp not good enough. Drop Rudoni deeper, BTA central as the 10, Tats on the right.

If not that, then for Leeds away I'd even consider Lati in with 5 at the back.
Or blood Kai against Leeds, can only go one of two ways!

I'm not sure why we should be so scared of playing Leeds. Their squad is about the 4th best in the division and they've hardly had a fantastic start. Last season, yes, this season, no different to playing any other top 6 club.

Calendars a nice touch, can't believe you just spent your entire weekend collating a couple of video stills.

The defence is shit because for some unbeknown reason we've gave Aled Williams, who has a questionable record in his actual area of goalkeeping, the defensive coach job

He's out of his depth with goalkeepers let alone giving him responsibility for an area that was a strength under Lawrence

What's concerning is we are weak all over the pitch defensively.
We have too many central strikers, too few wide players who know how to support full backs, weak and slow central midfielders, full backs who continually give wide players space to cross, central defenders prone to blunders, and a new keeper who has had a disappointing impact in galvanising his defence.

Genuinely why on earth would we do this

We also seem to have fitness, athleticism issues.
Wright and Torp are always knackered after 30 mins. Simms is not athletic enough to hassle defenders. Torp, Eccles, Sheaf, (and EMC) are slow.
Saka, Torp, Allen aren't strong enough and get easily knocked off the ball.

All true but I want to strike a more positive note.

So all I will say is that you have a nice fireplace 👍

Really?? I didn’t know this! Terrible decision if so

If it's actually true that Williams is responsible for training the defence, I'd love to know what Carr, Boateng, Delaney and Dempster are doing.

Nor tactically, the only role I'd trust him in is a central striker to be quite honest.
He's the perfect impact sub to chuck up top and say "be a pest for 30 minutes" thats him limitation at this level.
However that should be exactly what we need IF the team was performing. As Simms should be No.1

This is down to team selection, playing a CF on the right wing, when Sakamoto is on the bench is always going to cause us issues.

Maybe BTA was one of the players who didn't follow instructions, as he failed to track back on a number of occasions and drifted too centrally which denied us an outlet.

I'd say the exact opposite is true, we need more players that demand better from those around them.

Why the fuck should Bassette accept piss poor service?
He had a really good chance on Saturday and missed, there isn’t much wrong with the pass he’s complaining about in the video either

I mean to be fair, the first goal comes from at least two, possibly three players (Eccles, Bassette and maybe Rudoni) missing a simple header clear - awful awful defending

I notice you didn't mention either of our centre halves, who's job it is to clear crosses into the box..

Imo dropping Kitching has had a massive effect on us not keeping clean sheets.

I didn’t because they weren’t first in line to defend the cross, or even second or third

and if they were I believe one of them would’ve cleared the ball in, but I also believe I would’ve headed that ball clear, it was a comedy of missed headers and then a mass panic

I do agree that Kitching is a solid defender, but he had made a couple of mistakes / had a couple of bad performances (as have they all recently) so on form he was dropped and has to work his way back in - I won’t complain if / when he does though

Jesus. So now he is spread over two areas after his questionable ability in his main role!??...
