Good club Charlton, and they've got Nathan Jones as manager now. I think they'll be a Promotion candidate next season.
Jones likes a physical side with plenty of balls into the box so I can imagine that would suit Godden.

surely he will go to Shrewsbury, with Kelly and Allen

I'll be honest at mot I was expecting a nominal fee of say 100k if Godden were to leave, if not free if we have a specific target in mind and need his wages.

Wouldn't that be typical - our sell on clause would be useless if Sporting got a smaller amount and two Chelsea rejects

Hopefully they wouldn't be silly enough to accept a small amount and two players who can't break into a mid table side when they could hold out for the money and get it
That wouldn't happen.

Players still have a value assigned to them in an exchange deal. We would then get the % of the overall value of the deal, not just the cash portion.

And it can even be beneficial for clubs to overvalue their players in such a deal (see the Barca - Juve Arthur/Pjanic farce) so maybe we'd benefit even more.

I reckon he can score 20+ in league one. That’s worth £500k. He’s never relied on pace so if he stays fit he should have a good 3 years around that level

Mentioned before that Peterborough would be a good fit and as BSB mentioned, no reason he couldn’t be used as a part ex if they’re interested
Stay fit !!!! thats him knackered then

His experience for someone like Oxford would be invaluable. I’d fancy him to get 15 goals for a bottom 6 champ club.

I don't follow the logic - he has been struggling to score from open play for a team that spent a fair chunk of the season in the top half.
He'd look even worse playing for them than for us. Needs to drop down a league.

It’s not like he didn’t have chances either, Plymouth away was nearly criminal.

He had a good run in August and that’s it. 1 league goal since September sums it up unfortunately.

L1 is his level and I’m not so sure it’s at the top end of that level either.

I think with Godden it become a confidence thing...huge pressure on him ...he definately has the ability to be top end League 1 striker in the right team imo. He's a superb finisher on his day his 2 goals vs Oxford showcased that.

He lost his form from Jan 2023. Playing as a foil to Vik was a hard watch. Even when he was scoring at the start of this season he wasn't convincing, and his goals were in the most part fortunate. He was lean and hungry this season, but every time he played he looked isolated, with his lack of speed evident.
Really strange what happened...

How many would he score and where would a team that builds their forward play around playing to Goddens strengths finish in the Championship?
Well he got 9 for us despite being on the bench for most the season. He never had pace to lose but he is a born goal scorer. He’d be a good signing for someone like Derby, if he went there as their main striker I’d expect 10-12 league goals.

Swear I saw a metric saying his finishing stats or chances missed were 2nd in the league.

Goddens finishing was superb, when his finishing not on point then it’s a concern.

he’s been a good player for us but he’s not good enough anymore in my opinion.

be a good league one signing

He was a quality signing, scored the goals to take us up to the championship, first season in the 2nd tier had issues with injuries, the next season had the same for the first half then came back like a man possessed and the only player with better mpg was Mitrovic. This year started well with 9 goals but he has tailed off massively. Unfortunately we have surpassed him now which is a shame as he is a top top bloke and will always be welcome back with fondness, in my eyes a club hero, and for the youth may be a legend as they’ve never seen above this level. I wish him the utmost best wishes in the rest of his career always been a top professional

You have to be a really exceptional team I think to have the luxury of a player like Godden who on the whole doesn't contribute a lot without the ball or in the build up play. That should all be caveated with "at this level".

I just wonder if the game has passed this type of striker by... he isn't able to compete physically or athletically with defenders and despite the effort he has put in, he just isn't able to be effective in our team. It's definitely been difficult to watch him trying his best to influence the game but not really being able to make an impact.

Of all players, you back him to score when he's played in close to goal, but that's also a tough ask when you're not playing regularly.

A great striker for us over the years, but definitely time for him to find a team and level where he can play his best.

He was awful this season and got in the way of developing the new strikers.

He wouldn't start for any championship level team.

Let's not forget Simms and Wright hardly set the world alight before Christmas. Godden's movement put the other two to shame early on. Think Robins essentially said it was Godden and one of Wright and Simms at the start of the season. Time for him to move on though. Such a shame Godden hasn't got a turn of pace - he'd be a £10m in my opinion if so.
